View Full Version : How long before you take it to the boards ?

So, how about it. When is the proper time to take something to the boards ?

In mainstream type business in the U.S., dealing with consumers, you can't really take much action of any kind before the customer is 30 days past due... And then about the only action you can take is to get a note into a credit report and start some collections proceedings etc... So, in the mainstream biz to consumer end, it is a long process to collect on a debt. Further, if during that time you go public, you are going to have lawsuits and charges a plenty coming right up your ass...

Here in the adult online, there is definitely a lower threshold and I have seen stuff hit the boards often very quickly and in a nasty nasty fashion..

So, how long do you think is a "reasonable" amount of time to try to deal privately before you go and start torching the bridges ?

I used to take it to the boards the same Day I caught some mofo cheating...I LOVED that shit!

Depending on the amount.

In this case...3 weeks

1 week of phone conversions that totaled 3 minutes with the end result from other party being "we'll get back to you"

2 weeks of no response.

Writing was on the wall so here we are.

Hmm...but cheating hits is somewhat different than just a business disagreement at least imho.... Cheaters on programs need to be outed so others can check what is going on within their systems...

How about folks owing you money ? If they said the check is in the mail, how long before stating publically that they weren't paying you ?

I have no problem taking it to the boards at ANY time.

When you take it to the home/family, you've crossed the line, IMHO. :(

Like I said earlier, lay off the Godfather, Casino, Goodfellas and Soprano drama...LOL

For the love of Pete, you think If I wanted any harm to come, I would post it on the boards.....

You have clearly stated that you intend to serve him with legal papers regarding his business at his home. At that home, and who will more than likely be there to answer the "knock knock" will be his pregnant wife and three young kids. YOU might not consider this "harm" but obviously the majority of people here on this board do.

You have been told many times that he owns the building he's in and he's been there for 5 years yet you still defend your position to serve him at home. And from what I can tell, this is done without EVER trying to serve his business AT his business.

Please show me where I'm wrong and what "drama" I am creating.

1st line to serve is his office, 2nd line to serve is his home....

Are you now clear on this?

So you already attempted to serve his office, correct? After all, it would just be absurd to pay $5000 for his home address if you hadn't already attempted and failed to serve him at the office. So what happened when you attempted to serve him at the office?

Damn...quit spinning it.

You were pissed off, so you wuffed up and were beating your chest trying to show everyone how pissed you were about the situation.

Admit it and move on... Frustration and anger has gotten the better of lots of folks, and everyone will understand. You're just digging the hole deeper trying to spin it.

in answer to the posed question, I don't personally think there is any right time to take it to the boards.
Take legal action or swallow the loss. I would definitely let my friends know if I got ripped off, by who and for how much. But just throwing it out in the public arena of messageboards just usually ends up making the complainer look bad.

Where is your office Peaches? Seems to me the majority of us work from our homes. Wouldn't that be the logical place to serve someone that owes you money? The person that has put his family at risk is the person that is not paying the money and is creating the ill will. Right?

uh yeah. i am an idiot.

from YOU:

"Well a smart man would not jeopardize his family with shady practices even if it is to have him served. There is no harm in that. Maybe that will make his wife aware of what he is doing. For all I know, she is a nice person and doesn't know what he does and how he does it. I have no beef with his family."

"got out of that statement"? all i said is that you have no business bringing peoples personal lives and families into these discussions in a public forum for pornographers. You did that. It is certainly none of your business if she knows, doesn't know or approves of anything Nick does and its one more way that you have tried to subtely make things as personal as possible, in a manner that you feel is both defensible and acceptable. Most are telling you that it's not. Seems i am not the only "idiot" here today.

Where is this professionalism and ethics you talk about? You would be doing yourself a great service to admit you got a little excited, probably for good reason and you just let things die. You're making yourself look bad by lashing out in the way you are. Calling me an idiot does not change anyones perception of how you are carrying yourself today.

I am physically in my house. My business is operated elsewhere and that is where I expect to be served (and is where ALL my business and legal paperwork goes with no problems). I live in a gated community on a 4WD access only road and I keep a 22 rifle next to my front door. If someone wants to EVER serve me for my business at my home they are going to be unhappily surprised. :P

To answer the original question, it varies case by case. That said though, for me, it is among possible options of last recourse.

Actually I have at least three last recourses (in no particular order) and again, depends on the circumstance: boards, collection agency, sue.

Btw, "forgetting about it" or "writing it off" is NEVER an option in my book.

I'd really rather not ever see businesses, individuals or families issues brought to the boards for public scrutiny. I feel you should exhaust all other methods of resolution before mentioning anything on a public forum.

I do think that PROVEN cheaters need to be outted, but it should remain strictly business (no shit slinging) and posted only with full facts and PROOF.

I think it should be brought to the boards if you make your intent clear.
As I said last night...I think its a natural that people come here to post their problems since Serge had the GBU and we have a seperate section for that. Problem is I dont hink a lot of people know what their intent is.

Short of public embarassment I cant see the logic behind it. That being said though...Ive seen some pretty mean pisses resolved here.

Sure...if personal vendettas can remain out of the way and a professional manner can be kept, by all means, bring it before your peers. Unfortunately, though, that isn't normally the way things go.

never

if I have a disagreement with someone over a business matter, I don't play drama and hit the boards...

sometimes, even in the right, it can make you look like the bad guy....

goddess knows I've had my share of problems and business dealings but I prefer to try to work things out over the phone, ICQ, email, etc.

I've been dragged into a few things, but I always try to take the high road on that sort of thing unless it's just a regular old pissing match, but those are seldom over business problems

EDIT - almost never ;-)
