Christ, I've been outside trying to figure out how in the hell the phone system in this house is so messed up... apparently there were three analog lines in at one time and a digital cable phone and none of the outlets have the wiring matching anything outside.

so my DSL keeps dying, only one phone jack in the house has a dial tone, and I'm pulling my hair out.

well, if the cable tv works, then switch back to digital phone (through the cable) and cable internet as well. Screw those old phone lines!
