Central Business District.

My house in Tampa is in a gated community and definately in the suburbs. It is nice peaceful, and quiet.

In New Orleans, I have my house up for sale which is still in city limits, but on 45 acres. I recenly moved into a condo downtown, so I will be experiencing downtown living.

It is good to have best of both worlds.

That's nice Mike. A gated community is certainly the way to go for some folks. But I hope I never get that old. :D

i sort of am in a suburb even if it is technically still London. I can see the buildings from my balcony but I have to get a 20 minute train to be at them. Mind you the housing is nothing like what people think of when they think suburb.

I bought my house cuz it was in the country..... 20 years later, the suburbs overtook me.... ;-(

but I still get to watch this every night from my back window....

You can definitely tell whom on this board is small town America and who is not.

The suburbs though, thats a whole different disease. There are few things as repugnant as the burbs. Fucking minivans, creed, packaged rebellion, and soccer moms. I wish terrorists would attack suburbia more. Leave us city folk alone, the true American sheep that are in desperate need of an ethnic style cleansing lie just outside the city limits.

I have a place in central London, where are you?

J? How old are you? Where I live in Tampa is very nice. Only 15 minutes to the office. Since I am not here most of the time, having a house in a gated community provides me safety that burglers, or other criminals do not interfere with my property.

My house in NO is only 15 minutes for the CBD, yet I have land to do what I want, when I want.

The condo downtown though is pretty nice, I think I will enjoy it. Only 4 blocks to Bourbon St. and French Quarter. 4 blocks to casino, 6 blocks to directNIC offices.

I also have a fishing camp that I spend time at, I guess you could call it the suburbs - its about 50 miles from New Orleans. By boat its 20 minutes to the gulf of mexico and the best fishing in the United States.

So tell me how it is to always be stuck in the same place?

BTW I will be in London 2nd week in March. I love London, and England in general - I am a bit of a anglophile.

Fatbaby, I watched a lot of friends of mine go through that ... which is part of why I resolved to stay in the city until I could move to the country.

I now live in a town of 1,700, 8 miles from a "city" of 18,000. Before that I lived in the city, until my neighborhood became gentrified. Gentrification of an urban neighborhood proves the value of gated communities in the 'burbs. There is at least a chance you can lock the gates and keep them suckers from screwing up someplace else.

There is nothing wrong with the burbs that a neutron bomb couldn't cure.

How nice for you Mike. :D You have done well for yourself. We love Anglophiles they visit the tower of London, spend money in Bath and walk through Sherwood forest.
I am never stuck in the same placedude. I have seen more of the world than you have seen watching National Geographic. So what is your point? That only says you have money, but taste....I don't think so. I have read your posts.

Don't hate a gated community because you cannot afford to live in one...

I have done a fair bit of traveling, and have lots more planned.

Taste? That is a personal issue. If I am happy with it, I guess that is all that counts.

How old are you again??

I could if I needed to but I don't. But you go ahead and plan your world wide adventures. I am sure it will be fun. But if you are any kind of anglophile you know your are done like dinnerdude. Also, let me give you a little lesson in taste because it seems you need it. It is not a personal issue. You have just shot yourself in the foot because if you even said that, you don't have it.
Probably older than you, judging by your conversation if you are interested.

I know you are older then I. Just trying to figure out how much older... :D

I have a lot more living to do.... lot more traveling....

Think about it. What were you doing when you were my age?

I am young, educated, wealthy, have a great wife, great family, great friends.... the WORLD is my oyster.

If it makes you feel better to say I have no taste... that is ok. I think my fragile ego will be able to handle it.

That's nice mike. But I sincerely doubt the wealthy part of that equation. Money probably, wealth, not a chance. But good luck to you and your friends behind the fence. I will continue to live my life in a most interesting way. I have no need to tell you about my money, my friends or the rest of it. But you already knew that, I am sure. You see Mike, no matter what you do, all you will ever have done is this. I had already done more than you could ever hope to do by the time I was your age. This is just retirement for me. I feel sorry for those like you who have only ever worked for money. Good luck to you and I hope it works out and you get a chance to see the world and we can talk again someday.

I have lived in the city, in the burbs and in the country. Most of the time in the burbs. And I came within seconds of living right outside NYC. :zoinks:

Living in the country wins hands down, especially where I am now. I can get to any restaurant, major sporting event, play, movie, and the Atlanta Airport in less than an hour and a half. Considering that's just a tad over what used to be my daily drive each way to work, I prefer to just do it every week or so. :rokk:

There's no such thing as rush hour traffic, everyone's friendly, you don't have to lock your doors, and you don't have to close your blinds. If I could just get rid of the mice in my car, I'd be 100% content.

LOL, I was going to say the same thing. :P

Money and wealth will never equal happiness. I've seen people who are 100% happy who have an acutal net worth of $25K and I've see them with $25Mil.

I've also seen people just as miserable with $25Mil as someone with $25K.

Suredude. Buy low sell high. Funny how you have gone from wealthy to well off in ten minutes. I thought the market was closed. But I am sure you have a stainless steel fridge and a brand new electronic Waring blender. Damn ain't money grand? Like I said earlier, you have more money than I do, but you live in a gated community and have....a fishing camp or something???? You know Red Green? But you obviously know nothing about the world. So when you do, get back to me in a few years and I will buy you a beer or something and we can trade war stories.

I don't think anyone here considers Labret "bad". If anything, he tries so hard to be different that he doesn't realize how similar he is to the other "angry" people in the world and he therefore becomes comic relief. :)

I get a kick out of Labret and I've said many times I don't understand why Lens banned him. I guess the youngsters at GFY might have actually taken him seriously.

man, on top of your game and you got married. insane.
[Labret] - if you met Mike's wife Katie you might change your mind (but then again maybe not since you're set against marriage)
She gorgeous, smart and an absolute sweetheart

Just for the record [Labret] I saw in another thread you missed our name calling
Grudgingly the worst thing has happened, you've grown on me - sort of like fungus
Actually I have admiration for your intellect, well versed on some subjects and while we don't agree often and the way you express yourself sometimes is marginly annoying (and perhaps intended to be so)- doesn't mean you're a baaaaaaaaa person (where's the sheep icon)

J'sdude - you reek you're so full of shit - like you'd be allowed to speak with a US President - you're so unstable the blue suits would have you OTG in 3 seconds - you couldn't get within 100 yeards of a US President, present or former - maybe not even dead

Keeping this moron posting to keep page views up while you're traveling Serge

HAHAHA Vick, I was waiting for someone to mention J's resume and experiences.

I tried to figure out who he is based on the post, and I think he is Marlin Fitzwater.

HAHAHAHA

J, you win. You have everything, I have nothing. I am sure you feel better. Please pass it on to the President and Sec of State for me!

Sorrydude, its all true. I have been on Airforce 2 with the secretary of state. Anyone who knows me knows I might be irracible but I don't lie. I have also met Princess Di and most of the Royal Family. Does that bother you Mike and Vick? Say what you like but it is all true. For everything else there is Mastercard.

I have no need to tell you about my money, my friends or the rest of it. But you already knew that, I am sure.
Sure seems like you're spending a lot of time not having the need to tell us about these things.....

No peaches, only because Mike found it necessary one more time to tell us about how well off he is with his houses, his gated communities and his cars. But that is ok I guess. He is spinning you like a top to sell product.

Actually I know for a fact that Michael hasn't told you squat about what he owns, the traveling he does, the friends and family he's generous with, etc. If you consider the small portion you know about him as something to "defend" yourself against, then you really are pitiful. :(

Heck, I live in a gated community and I'm poor and my car's such a POS that I have mice living in it. :P

No Idea who they were. But I could drop way bigger names than that....but no need. My job is done for a couple of days. Vick it was real, but you need to work out, practice your swing. Peaches, you get the award for the most improved piss artist and major achievement in temper control. But the award to the worst performance in the porno piss category goes to.....the envelope please....Mike AI. Congrats to all.

I havent heard that name in awhile. Did they just fade away? Just when you thought they were gonna get big they just sorta went away. I suppose I could google search and find out. About the only thing I remember though is the singer was a scary looking motherfucker, or at least was back when I was 15 or so.

As far as I know they did, sad to say

Last time I saw them was on the Magic and Madness tour in a club that held about 2,000

One of the guitar players had me banging shots of Tequila with them at the bar after the show was done

for an encore they did a cover of Elvis Costello's "What's so funny" - it was pretty heavy

When you live most of your life in a town of 35,000 - being 5 miles away from it is called 'being in the country...hahahahha

Gated communities are nice & Naples is full of them. Safety is the factor. It also means that you don't have to mow your lawn & all the area is professionally landscaped....

Now for the first time in 30 years I live in the city limits - but have a canal, boat & boat dock 30 ft from the back door. Hard to consider it 'city living.....

"you can impress some of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time. But you sure as hell can't impress all of the people all of the time"

The gated community blew your cache right out the freekin window.[/b][/quote]
I know Mike has taste in Women, Homes and Cars (well that camaro could have been a cuda) ;)
