I guess there is some advantages about living the the States. For example, the First Amendment.

Could you imagine if something like this was tried in the US?

Wonder what else the Canadien Gov't has been hiding from its people.....

Mike, you read way too much into a court proceeding.

This is a serial killer beyond all understanding. The police, the courts, and the people working for them try to assure that there are no holes, no leaks, no media speculation of the "bloody glove"... they don't want an OJ on this one. They want this fucker never to be able to do anything except be someone's bitch for the rest of his days.

60+ women went missing over a very long period of time, and they have spent over a year going those the farm and identifying victims (often by trace DNA, small body parts, etc, as this guy tended to chop them pretty fine).

I know more than enough about this case, I don't need to know any more.

Free speech without limits is as dangerous as a loaded pistol in a baby's hand. It goes both ways.

Alex, I understand issues of keeping the case tight. But your quote about Free Speech without limits is troublesome.

It is kind of shocking coming from a guy who spend a lot of time bashing Conservatives on the Patriot Act.

So when the US Gov't controls things under a Republican it is wrong, but when Canadians do it, it is OK!

:okthumb:

Life must be so nice and simple as a Canadian!

I don't remember hearing much about this on the news when I was in Vancouver. This was before the guy was caught. He was picking hookers up in the Hastings area and nobody knew they were missing. Very sad story.

I just finished watching the movie Snatch. It figures the guy owned a pig farm.

Yes, Mikey, I read the article. And yes, I am a firm supporter of the 1st Ammendment.... but that doesn't apply to Canada. So your question is really rather pointless.

Do I think they ought to allow reporting on the case? Yeah - but that and $40 U.S. will buy me a cup of coffee in a Canadian Starbucks. The jury pool arguement makes some sense - and the next time I turn on the news to be bombarded with Kobe Bryant, Robert Blake, Martha Stewart, Laci Peterson, and [insert latest tragic killing of young whte girl here], I might envy our Canadian neighbors

If a Canadian posted a comprable bit of mediocre thinking about denying attorneys to suspects charged uner the Patriot [sic] Act, you'd be all over it like stink on shit. I guess that I never understood why the mental midget America haters on other boards get under your skin so much.

You think just like they do.

I didn't bother to read the article, It is really not my concern what happens in Canada, I don't pay taxes there, and I don't live there (never will either, too freaking cold)

As for the First Amendment, Dubya and company is doing a great deal to use the constitution as their party toilet paper.

Faith based funding, Patriot Act, anyone that can't see the constitution trampling going on in this administration might want to borrow Stevie Wonders eyes.

i have been to about 20 countries and i can say that most western countries seem to be pretty much even as a general rule in terms of human rights, freedom of speach etc. i dont think its fair to point out exceptions of the rule to make a point that it is the rule, or use that exception to point to the fact that because that exception exists means one place is better than the other. the negatives and positives of any country is equally long.

not too long ago the US executed a retard. the EU has long since abolished the death penalty. some might say that makes the US barbaric. it would take a pretty tremendous stretch of logic to say that exception to the rule was not barbaric. does that make the entire process barbaric? its just a matter of taste and opinion. the list of examples and pros and cons contrasting any two countries can go on and on.

in the end, its about perception, perspective and belief and not about proveable fact.

I get a laugh whenever I hear someone mention how it's too cold in Canada.
The weather in the coldest parts of Canada that have any significant population isn't much different than that of most of the US north-east. (the most populated parts of the US).

Also, usually the ones who complain about the cold have the whitest complexions I've ever seen because they never go outside.

Correct. Technically.

Mike is also correct - technically - in saying that the Administration played no role in the hoopla over the GA decision/reversal.

But if you think she acted alone, or that there is absolutely no connection between the Bushites and her - you've go your head up your as...er, in the sand. Make no mistake about it - the born again bimbo who made that decision is NOT some isolated idiot operating alone, nor is she that far removed from the way of thought of a great many people in this administration - or at the very least, to whom this administration owes its existence.

The board of education in Kansas actually proceeded some way down the bureaucratic path toward removing the teaching of evolution from public schools in Kansas. At least five states, including my home (Illinois) and my former home (Missouri) do not include the word evolution in the office state curriculum, as a result of the efforts of exactly the same sort of people. The religious right runs seminars for potential school board candidates (local and state) in an effort to gain control of them to further their agenda. The issue is NOT dead in Georgia – they will be back.

Now please go about your business. JR will deny the existence of the religious right, or dispute that they have any sway over the Bush Administration, and lead us in a chorus of “don’t worry, be happy.” Carrie will come along and provide the pagan perspective on why “creationism is just all right with me.” Torone can follow with an explanation of how I am a puppet of the demacommie liberal press and have addled my brain with fluorinated water. Mike AI can dismiss me as a Canadian – probably a (gasp) FRENCH Canadian.

Yeah, let’s keep fighting about evolution. Welcome to the 19-fucking-20s. Maybe William Jennings Bryant didn't lose as bad as it seemed.

Actually nothing really because you already have shot yourself in the foot way too many times imho. You see, Mike...may I call you Mike....we live in a free country....you do not. We do not have to fight to protect our freedom of speech. You do. I personally do not give a shit if the story of this pig farmer is broadcast or not.
