View Full Version : I finally found the damn bird!

As many of you know, I live in a little log cabin. My office is in a loft which overlooks the den.

For several months, we've been hearing a bird pecking on the wood outside the front door. Just a few pecks here and there, not anything major. There are at least 3 different kinds of woodpeckers in my woods which sometimes peck at the house and many times the regular birds will peck at the windows, so this isn't unusual. But it was odd that it seemed to be happening at the same spot every time and at the same intensity - like it was the same bird each time.

If it was during the day, sometimes I'd look out the window or run outside to see if I saw it flying away. For awhile I even wondered if it had somehow gotten into the chimney. I spent time looking at all the wood in the general area where I heard the pecking, but couldn't see any evidence. The bird seemed almost invisible, except you could HEAR it!

Then last night we caught the sucker. The kid and I are watching TV and we hear it several times. By now, we're used to it, but it's still a little unsettling knowing your home is being pecked away. All of a sudden, it happens again and the kid looks at me and says "It's NOT a bird, it's the "knock knock knock" of someone signing on to your ICQ list.". :bulb2:

He was right.

Sometimes I wonder if I should just line someone up now to take care of me. :headwall: :headwall: :headwall:

LOL! That is too funny! I had to turn the sound on mine off, every time someone knocked my damn dogs would go off!

Hehe - 6 or so years ago I had AOL as my ISP and whenever my dogs heard "Good bye" they knew I was leaving the office (they're always there with me).

And when we used to have a doorbell, we'd watch the old "Whose Line is it Anyway" on CC and the dogs would go NUTS whenever the doorbell rang on the show. Now that I haven't had a doorbell in over 3 years, I don't think they know what it is anymore. :P

I've turned all sounds except incoming messages off (and I've changed that sound to something a bit easier on my ears).
I fucking hate the 'uh oh' sound of icq.

I keep the sounds on because many times I'm downstairs doing something and I need to grab an ICQ message. Wig gave me a few minutes of exercise last night when I was boiling pasta and talking to him via ICQ at the same time. :P

I have over 300 people on my icq list, and I get maybe a message per day.. and I maybe know 10 of the people on my list, so they don't entertain me enough. I should clean my list, but as I'm not sure who's who I don't dare to. I keep getting messages from people I have no idea who they are. :)

Ignorance is a bliss, and I usually agree on these guys so they'd stop bugging me.

Peaches that is hilarious! I'm reading your post and thinking about the woodpeckers I have around my place.. and one really stupid one that is always pecking at a telephone poll.. I'm thinking you finally found your bird then you say its icq.. haha.. that was funny.

rotflmfao......

When Jen and I first got together back in '98, I was visiting her at the condo. She had a computer, oh, about a year old or so.... She told me everything was great on it, but the speakers had never worked so she didn't have sound. I went over to the speakers, looked at them, turned the on/off switch to on and sound started coming out.... :yowsa:

Yes, Ryan, a few months ago I joined the 19th century :P

Yes, Michael, everything's "original equipment" on me - including my hair color. B)

And I swear - now that I know what it is I hear it and think "How the hell did I think it was a bird??!!" <_<
