It's a 90% probability the kid's going to be at Keesler when he turns 21 and since he'll be in tech school, he can't go but a set amount of miles off base.

I figured I'd grab some of his friends (and maybe some of mine to keep me entertained :awinky: ), pick him up and take them to Biloxi where he can drink legally and give him a few dollars to gamble with.

I don't want to spend a lot of $$$. A decent mid priced hotel would be best. And is there anything else to do in Biloxi besides gamble? I know there are shows there, but aren't they basically the acts that can't make it anywhere else?

I have a feeling it's going to be a very interesting trip.....

Lot of Casinos on the Gulf Coast who make great deals on rooms.

When are you going? We can have an Oprano even on the Mississippi Gulf Coast!! :rokk:

In July. Probably the weekend of 16-18. I can probably think of 8000 places I'd rather be than Mississippi in the middle of the summer, but that's my thanks for being pregnant during what I consider the hottest summer in GA in recorded history. :P

I'm starting to look around and it SEEMS to not be as bad as I've heard. So many people have referred to it as the Redneck Riviera that I was worried my choices would be between Days Inn and Motel 6 and eating McD's. But the sites I'm finding make it look not half bad. It's always good to have low expectations. :okthumb:

Peaches - I grew up there (in the area anyway) - the Mississippi Gulf Coast is kind of an extension of New Orleans, NOT Alabama (sorry Dan!) - Lots of people from NO have summer places and spend "vacation" time on the Gulf - and theres LOTS to do as well... But your best hotel bet will probably be the casinos, to be honest - but PLENTY of restaurants and stuff to do!

Peaches, if I am in NO at the time, I will definately drive up and come hang out!

The Beau Rivage is nice. I also hear they are building a Hard Rock which should be ready soon. The Grand is also nice.

Thanks Edd and Michael. It's starting to look a little better. :) Now that I'm looking forward to it, watch him end up somewhere near a small town in Texas, lol! :P

He'll know at the latest in May where he'll be and I'll check back around and see if we can get a group together so I don't spend the whole time with HIS friends. B)

Hey, the kid gets to go like 100 miles away from base and has be back by midnight. I'm trying to find SOMEWAY to make his 21st birthday a BIT interesting within the parameters I can work with. :P

When I turned 18 (the legal drinking age here) I would have paid anything NOT to be around my mom. Just my worthless 2 cents. :)

I agree - unfortunately for him, I'm the one with the money and transportation. They aren't allowed to have cars in tech school and they can't leave the base unless someone comes and get them and there's no drinking on base during tech school. :( It just so happens that he turns 21 during the most stringent rules at school.

I figured if I bring a couple of his friends with me, they can all go hang out together and now that it looks like others might come, I won't be sitting at the slot machines alone while the kids play. :)

I've done Beau Rivage. It's not bad....it's kinda like a miniature sized version of a Vegas resort. It was designed by Steve Wynn before he sold all of his stuff to MGM, so it's nice.

Biloxi is a lot like going to Jamaica though....stay on the resort. It gets very bad very fast if you venture outside the casinos. You quickly get a reality check and are reminded you're in Mississippi.

The Beau is more expensive than any of the others, but is the most Vegas-like and nicest of the ones I've seen. Just like Vegas, you'll pay a premium for weekend nights, but thru the week isn't terribly expensive. And AirTran does have a couple of flights from Atlanta to Gulfport when they can scare the live stock off the runway.

Only downside is the place is usually slammed with blue hairs who have arrived on tour buses on their way to/from Branson....

Dont even think about trying to get into the buffet for dinner at 4PM....the line wraps all the way around the casino.

I'm going to be driving back and forth to Keesler at least 2 times a day. :(

And I'm not far from being a blue hair, so I'll fit right in - we'll trade Bingo hints, doctor stories and where to get a good set of teeth for cheap. :)

Peaches,

But that begs the question, "Will the carpet match the drapes?"

Methinks blue pubes would be quite saucy and sassy! :nyanya:

I don't see where I'm coming to see you - I'm having a fun weekend in Biloxi with my friends from work. If you're VERY lucky, we might swing by and let you party a bit on your 21st birthday. :nyanya:
