Dutch Police busted a large group of people running the Nigerian scam.

"Six people, three from Nigeria and three from Benin, were convicted in a similar case in Amsterdam in May, receiving sentences of up to 4.5 years. They had defrauded victims for several million dollars, including a Swiss professor who lost $482,000 after being promised 25 percent of a $36 million sum."

Thats what i dont get about financial crimes vs. violent crimes. I can rob a bank and serve 20 years because... well... thats a "serious crime". On the other hand, i can fuck people out of $20,000,000.00 and pay a fine and probably get probation.

For a guy from Nigeria... a couple million dollars in exchange for 4 years in prison in Europe would probably be the offer of a lifetime. I bet if you placed ads in Nigerian classifies you would be overwhelmed with responses.

assume that you could walk away from all your business for any length of time and revenues/income would stay exactly the same for the time you are away...

Would you go to prison for say... $5,000,000.00?

For how long?

You can't say no because we both know you would do a week for $5,000,000.00 - so the only real issue is how much time you would trade.

I think 1 year would be an ok trade off for $5,000,000.00 myself. Especially since it would be some minimum security place where you just jerked off, lifted weights, watched cable TV and made crappy toys in the wood shop all day.

6 months ain't no sentence, one year ain't no time.....but when I hear from one to ten.....
You gotta sit in a cell, have them slam the door and feel what is it like to lose complete control of your life before you could answer that question. It is simple to answer if you have never felt it.

My ex-boss is in the middle of a 4.5 year sentence for defrauding MCI and others. He supposedly has to pay around $5mil in penalties but so far they've only gotten around $1mil. Between this and other scams, he's got about $50mil stashed away offshore and he's in a Club Fed. They put him near where his wife and kids are and they can visit him frequently. I don't think he regrets his decision and if you've ever read "The Brethren", I suspect he's running an equally crooked scam in there. :P

hmmm.. Thats a bunch of money. Tough to put a price on freedom.. I'll say 1 year. Anything more than that and my dogs wouldn't know me, my wife would have left me, etc.. haha

You want to do under a year to escape state prison - that's where things get "icky..."

Unless it's Club Fed that you're going to, which I guess something like this might warrant - then it's an easy kick-back sentence w/ 3 gourmet hots & a goosedown cot! You might not want to ever leave! :yowsa:

I agree that it is tough to place a price on freedom. My son is near the end of his sentence in NYS. His first few years they placed him in maximum security and they offer family visits. This mean that I could go there for two nights, three days and stay inside a housing facility with him set away from the prison. It was a small mobile home, nothing fancy but I was happy to spend that kind of time with him. Once they checked you in you completely lost any outside contact with the world…no phones, no PC’s, nothing. Although I enjoyed our visits I felt very confined.

One day visits you’re processed and gates lock behind you. That took a bit to get use to. I just reminded myself how much worse it was for him. Over the years it was easier yet never stress free.

I was thinking about this topic for a while before I posted. Thoughts rolled through my head and I was curious to see how other adult webmasters would respond. One of the most attractive aspects of working in adult internet was that I could do anywhere and I have. Having the freedom to live my life the way I wanted was important to me. If it’s sunny outside or I feel like fishing I just go. Maybe next week I’ll be in another state working on my laptop and none of my clients or subscribers would ever know the difference. I have grown use to this type of freedom. I’m not sure I could give it up so easily.

HOWEVER – for the right amount and a shit load of books I might be able to do it for a year, maybe two.
