I know there are more than a handful of wine connoisseurs here, and I was just wondering what your favourites are.

Most the of best wines that I like aren't readily available in North America. I used to live in the Rhine Valley in Germany so I was fortunate enough to get a lot of good Alsacian wines and even some good German wines. The wine that Germany exports is typically crap, though.

One of my favourite California wines is 2001 Zinfandel Pagani Ranch from Ridge Vineyards. Nice...

Some of my favorite. Silver Oak, Caymus ( the CS, as well as their white - Conumdrum ( sp?), Joseph Phelps - their basic CS not their expensive reserve. Copolla Merlot.

Serge!
you stole my thunder man
:o

i will make an offical post later this week but Yes! I have added a sideline to my adult stuff

I am brokering VERRY limited hand crafted single vineyards wines from all over the world here in N. America for a german company.

Lots are verrry small, usually less then 600 cases, so when it comes in it goes fast because we buy the entire case production from the vineyard.
:rokk:

If you want to get in on any pre release stuff I have lmk
I pick up shiping and have a money back policy if your not copmpletely happy with your first bottle and i pay for the entire 12 bottle case as well as shipping, so you cant loose.

Ask serge or mikew about the Cab Franc we opened last night
:wnw: :wnw:
similar wine in the store runs 50+ a bottle. I get it for 34.00
and we are the only one in the world with it for sale. I think we have 15 cases left on a 425 case lot released last monday.
=-))))))))))))))))

118156620-icq if you want to chat wine or to check out the other 12 varietals I have in. Wines change DAILY as we move couple $100k a week in wine sales so dont miss out

post away! I can match your wish list against what we have of our own stock.

We never buy anything you can buy from someone else or in a store

why?

we like to have exclusivity on the wines we carry.
most of the small vinyards are mom and pops or families that have been doing this for 30 - 50 years but dont have the capacity or revenue to market their wines to the BIG 5 distributors.

Thats where we come in. The company I rep has tasters in every wine region in the world. They taste 100-200 wines before selecting 1 to buy exclusively, so they are the best of the best for Boutique wines

I currently have 6 reds rangeing from sweet to dry, French, US, and Romanian ( YES! Romanian Merlot is WORLD famous but little known in the US)
3 whites 1 domestic 2 german and 2-3 sparkling wines

Bötzinger Edition Spätburgunder Rotwein, Spätlese 0,75 l
Bischoffinger Spätburgunder Rotwein 0,75 l
Bickensohler Steinfelsen Spätburgunder Rotwein Spätlese 0,75 l

All are from the Kaiserstuhl (http://www.kaiserstuhl.com/) region in Baden.

if your willing to try wines what are verry simialr in taste and acidty as those I have 1 right now

e-mail me your number and Ill call you with the description of the wine and the case price on monday.

as the company is a 300 year old German wine distributor, vineyard owner, and producer, their selection of german wines rivals anything i have ever seen in my 18+ years of drinking wine.

BUT remember these wines are somehting you would never see unless you were in germany at the vineyard.

and we get new releases every week to check out and collect.

as you know these german wines can cellar for a long time

or drink em now like I do

Some German wines aren't that good... mostly those that come from the Mosel Valley. These are the ones that usually get exported. Dunno why...

I noticed that some of the ones I noted can be ordered online, but I didn't go so far as to translate the pages to see whether or not they'll send overseas.

But can you provide some details of the German reds you can get?

I'm in the same boat, would love to be able to do wine orders via the web.

Problem with Georgia is the good ole boy network at the Georgia capital. It's starting to change slightly as some of the geezers die off, but things in this state at the high levels still work much the same way they did in the 30's, 40's and 50's. It's all about who you know, who you went to school with, who you owe favors too.

And the state's alcohol distributors are plugged into that good ole boy network and keep it well greased. So far they've made sure that they aren't going to have any competition from the web.

Forest

alot of states are like that right now.

trying to protect their tax base for liquor is one reason

lobbying from distributors is another

we have agreements in many states where laws like this exist to ship thru an established distributor there and pay them a royalty of sorts

but there are still several states we can not ship to yet

Speaking of stupid GA alcohol laws: Remember several years ago when, because it was illegal for anyone under 18 to "sell" alcohol, you had to scan your own wine and beer at the grocery stores if the cashier was under 18?

And even though one of my favorite stupid liquor laws is SC and their "airline bottle" shots, I think it was Danny who told me that's in the process of being abolished. I'm going to miss the look on the bartenders face when you order 3 pitchers of Margaritas. B)

White- Corton Charlemagne – but it’s just way to expensive for me to drink all the time. If I drink white wines they need to be dry and I prefer a white Burgundy.

Reds- Normally St.Emillion, Amarone’s, heavy dry wines, although I admit that Forest turned me on to a few awesome wines and I trust his judgment.

So Forest I’m looking for a nice deep red in the $15.00 range. Toasted Head is ok but I think there’s better.

There’s something about French wines that have a certain kind of magic. I’m open and try wines from all over the world. There are some New Zealand wines that were pretty damn good. Still a nice oak cured wine is my first choice.

Hey you know they’ve started growing a lot of grapes upstate Florida. In fact there are several agricultural programs to promote this crop. I haven’t’ tired Florida wine any but wondered if anyone had?

Forest you seriously need to be living in the country with a fabulous gazebo covered with grape vines.

Hit me up with some wine choices.

Nick got me hooked on Ice Wine as well

I also loved this Allegrini 1998 La Poja I tried at a friend's house the other night....
Dessert wines are something I can get into....

Ice Wines are excellent, I also like Moscato's...
Yeah, there's a restaurant in New West (can't remember the name off hand) that had a "fleet of ice wines" which was 3 different wines and they were all amazingly good: inniskillin, reisling and I can't remember the third one...

inniskillin is my favorite of the ice wines I've tried

its a wine that has been made fomr grapes that have been left on the vine till they are almost a rasin texture so they are sooooooo full of natural sugar.

they make a verry sweet wine

good stuff if done correctly

Hmmm I'll have to hit up my other half since she's the wine connoisseur. Myself just give me some good Russian Vodka and I'm a happy camper! :hic:

Chris the other night we broke out a bottle of 20/20 it's been one of my favorites for years !
I'll have what billy's drinking :P

actually St. Supery.. makes a very nice chard...

and Ferrari Carano is very nice as well :-)
gregg

if you like both of those I have a chard that you cant get anywhere else and is as good is not better than the Ferrari

Lotus Creek Chard 02 Their Mendocino Vineyard

only 510 case made

ONLY $24.00 per bottle
:zoinks: :rokk:
ah very nice.. yeah I like reds too.. but my wife has had to stop drinking merlots.. so Its easier to just drink chards with her...

I actually try to keep all of my bottles around $10 but found the ferrari at "costco" for $21... St. Supery runs around $14... so not too far off.. but damn an expensive evening habit...

Greg

I had a chardonnay/grenache blend last week that was sooo delicious it sold out on 3 days

600 cases

at 16.00 a bottle it doesnt stay long
LOL

Now here is what you do. You buy your st. supery for everyday or regular drinking and a case of my chard for the special occassions or as gifts.
I guarentee you they wont get it from anyone else

unless they are one of our clients already
LOL

I do a lot of reading and the local community college does wine tasting demonstrations, so I've been learning that way as well...I'm still not to the point of smelling the cork and nodding my head....I've also decided I just want a good wine, I don't care what wine goes wth which entree...to quote Justin Wilson (RIP) "the chicken don't care what color the wine is" ;-)

Peaches,

Inniskillin (sp?) isn't too tough to find in Atlanta, though that one's Canadian. Same principle applies, the grapes are left on the vine until after freezing. The german ones I've had are better. They're tough to find here though, so I dont have a particular name as I tend to try a different one based on whatever I find whenever in the mood.

You'll find them with the other sweet wines or dessert wines. When you find Ports you're getting warm. Look for "ice wine" or in german "eiswein". Expect them to start around $20-25 a bottle....and often that'll be for a 375 ml.

If you like a sweet wine, check out the Moscato's as well. Most big liquor stores will have at least 2-3 for you to choose from. The two I am able to find here most consistently that I like are DiStefano Moscato D'asti and EOS Tears of Dew. Both are best served ice cold.

I love sweet wine. :inlove: Ken turned me on to ports in FL and I've been having fun with them since. :)

I'm heading to the local liquor store Friday (gotta get some kirsh - I'm going to make homemade cheese fondue - I don't cook but I can melt!) and to Atlanta on Monday so if the hills don't sell it, I'll head to one of the big shops in Cobb.

Many thanks - I'm writing it all down on a post-it :okthumb:
