Who won't wear a large faced watch and refuses to buy "pre-worn" look jeans?

I like both of those, personally.

What I have problems with is the excessive permanent skin mutilation - especially the large posts in the ears which create a hole you can fly a Cessna through.

Not a clothing "fashion", but you didn't quantify. B)

my jeans are 'pre-worn'.... um... by me.. they are old...

I dont wear a watch... thats what the time on the Cell Phone is for...

Then again.. my daughter keeps threatening me with a referral to that 'Gay Guys for the Straight guy' thing...

I think she's telling me I aint a 'fashion maven'...

I hate people who wear underwear and socks.

..also, I can't say I hate the thing, but I find it VERY odd that 12 year olds wear 'Christina aguilera' style clothes, and very tight pants and everything has to be expensive brands. When I was 12 I had a teenage mutant ninja turtles sweatshirt and I was the happiest I am a MORON, on earth.

My sister, who prides herself for doing the exact opposite of what everyone else does, had her belly button pierced about 10 years ago. She was SO pissed when everyone else started getting it done and it became fashionable. Ditto with the hennaed hand designs - she was doing it years ago and now everyone's doing it. I'm not sure that was ever fashionable for anyone under 50 or those who went to band camp. :P

Hmmm.... I'm the type of person who zigs when everyone else zags, so I've pretty much never followed what's popular unless I REALLY liked something.

Specifically, I will never EVER wear a four button single breasted suit. EVER! I think they look like crap. Give me a nice double breasted suit and I'm happy... even if it's not "in style."

Can you tell I've never been one of the "cool" people? haha

Here's something I found out about Voo when I went clothes shopping with him - when he likes something, he REALLY likes it.....and will buy massive quantities of it. :P

I was thinking about your question while waiting for the thread to load.

and I came up with two things:

Pre-worn expensive jeans and 4 inches wide watches.

eh, Ive havent worn jeans in years, and when I did, I worn them out the old fashion way... with my ass.

But the funniest thing is that "pre-used" jeans are worn out in places that should never wear out....

eh, Im getting old...

the expensive, flashy watch...I can never bring myself to spend more than $10-12 on a watch...I tried to buy a $20 watch one time and I felt a pit in my stomach...

See? Even if Gabe had a look on his face like he was about to eat you for dinner, he'd still look all cuddly. :)

I hate pants that are falling off and/or one pant leg is large enough to fit Devine into and it balloons out around your shoe when you walk.
With the first I always get the urge to just go ahead and pull them down, with the second I want to ask the person "Do you really enjoy having disgustingly filthy pants from your ankles down that look like they belonged to your 500lb uncle?"
I mean, why would you want to drag an extra yard of fabric along under your feet and walk on it? Why would you PAY for this privilege?

To go along with the too-long pants, I have never been able to stomach bell bottoms.

Pierced noses - especially bull rings. They look like big silver snot boogers hanging from your nose. Pierced lips - just stupid. Hell pierced faces at all, period. Got no problem with ears, except for those big awful black things that are half an inch wide and look like a mole or tumor that needs to be removed. Used to be people were embarrassed to have something like that on their ear and they'd head to the doctor to fix it.

I don't mind a few tasteful tattoos. Sleeves look disgustingly ugly. The person inked might think it's "art", but trust me, it's just ugly.

I'm with TGF on the 12-yr olds dressed like Christina. Where are their parents? These girls need a slap on their half-hanging-out asses and told to get back into their rooms, to come out when they look like they're 12.

Let me add to that anyone over 150 pounds dressed like Christina. No explanation necessary.

Micro-bikinis. I'm serious. They're just gross. Go nude and get it over with, you'd look much better. As it is now, you look like you have a colored tampon string hanging out of your twat. And watching you constantly pick your ass isn't sexy, either.

I could keep going but I'm tired of typing.
I've never been shy of admitting that I've got some heavy-handed opinions. :)

Knit polo shirts with cargo shorts, dickies or clean blue jeans (not acid washed or blue/green with fake fades) is pretty much all I wear during the week. On weekends its a white T-shirt and Dickies. Oh yeah a nice pair of white sneekers.

Here is a fashion trend that I LIKE....maybe Peaches is with me on this one...

cropped pants! Im so short that I always had to have my pants hemmed so now cropped pants actually fit like regular pants. The Gap has regular, long, extra long and ankle. Sadly, the ANKLE fits perfectly as a normal long pant.

I hate those stupid 70's knit ponchos that some celebs are wearing, they look like shit.

I have to agree on the clothing trends for 12 year-olds... my daughter (12 - almost 13) does too fortunately. Her fave outfit would be one of her million or so Good Charlotte t-shirts w/ jeans, sweats or shorts. We call it her uniform... what's funny is that elbow to wrist bunch of black jelly bracelets that she thinks are "new" - lol She doesn't realize mom wore those "back in the day" with her Madonna wannabe outfits. :awinky:

The super mega low rise jeans are a bit offensive... and I'm with you on the crack showing... we see WAY too much "crack" on all the teenaged girls @ the local mall. My 14 year-old son says he & his friends don't even think that's attractive... I guess in THAT case, less (crack) would be more. :yowsa:

And one more agreement... I'm with ya on the flannel Peaches... there's just something about it that makes ya wanna cuddle with it. Hub's also got a creamy chambray shirt that I just can't keep my hands off of. :groucho:

LOL! How true!! :P Thankfully some of the jeans makers are now making "short" in addition to "petite". The petite's were fine until my butt started expanding, but the shorts are perfect. :)

BTW, Lands End does free hemming :) The shortest they go is 26 inches which is right at what I need.

But I do agree, those cropped pants are a godsend. My equally short girlfriend turned me on to them. They're especially great in the spring/summer with all the really hot and cool patterns which they NEVER make regular pants out of anyway. B)

I'm the exact opposite.
For some reason the people who make jeans think that if you have long legs, you must be built like Helga from Germany and wear a size 14.
Typically if I can find a pair of jeans to fit my legs, they're falling off of my hips and I can just about fit both legs into one pants leg.

On those rare occasions when I *do* find a pair of jeans that actually fit me, I'll walk out with 3 or 4 pair. I know it'll be two years before it happens again.

Could never go for the boxer underwear showing on men because their pants were so baggy and low
I used to depants my nephews a few years back for trying that fashion

Also not a fan of Capri length pants .... unless you're digging clams

The pants with legs Sooooooooo big the wearer has to take two steps to move one leg is something I don't get either

But to each their own

and yes I am terribly fashionable (at least until Nick posts where he gets his suits made)
but I set the trends, not follow them - almost time to stop at 42 though - really hard to be cool when you're old

Like the shoe thing a while back I may be the only (straight) male here with 3+ closets of clothes

Not really :awinky: She's out in Cal-li-forn-nee-a and living with a guy she's been with for about a year. It's funny because he's a long haired musician who kinda goes with the flow, lived in CA all his life BUT has conservative ideas and eats meat. She's our little granola girl and has been a vegetarian since she was 5 and a vegan for the past few years. He's perfect because he's beatnik enough for her (they met at a drum circle) but conservative enough for us. :P A REALLY nice guy and she's not been too good in the past for picking those out, hehehe.

She dresses like she has a dollar to her name and my Mom flew her 1st class the last time she came home. I kept thinking people on the plane figured she must be some sort of eccentric rich person. :)

Just wait a couple of years, those will be back in style! :awinky:

I have a friend who is 6'3" or so. When I bitch about not being able to find jeans that are long enough, she just about puts a hole through my head with the icy glare she puts out. Then she just says "you think YOU have it bad?" and it shuts me right up. :)

Really though it's not us with all of our different leg lengths. It's the people who make women's jeans/pants. They need to take a cue from their male counterparts and do inseam/waist measurements, adding in a curve for the hips. It would be SO much easier and make the majority of women very happy!

Peaches

Lee and Dockers (or are they owned by the same company?) has done a good job IMHO with regular, petite, short and tall pants and jeans.

Now, DRESS pants or "stylish" pants are a whole 'nother story. I can count on always having to get them hemmed. :( Though some of them have elastic wastebands (or at least the "old ladies" crap I buy does :awinky: ) and I can roll the band a few times, lol!

That's funny because of the irony behind it
At a "Goth" club a few months back, standing on the balcony drinking watching the going's on below on the dance floor (and elsewhere - so what I'm a social voyeur) and thinking to myself
All these Goth's striving for non conformity have become conformist
The all black outfits, the disaffected attitude, the bizarre/unusual dances, Hot Topic clothes, the list goes on
I found it quite amusing - but then so are a few glasses of Dewar's

and yes I go out of my way to be "colorful" when "gothing" (kind of like slumming so to speak)

Eh? What does posting on a message board have to do with being a conformist or a non-conformist.

Just for the record, I do not seek the attention of others. I am happy being myself. I don't dye my hair, have piercings, tattoos or wear lipstick.

I just don't follow culture trends.

Only current trend that really irks me is the whole baggy pants with the underwear showing thing on the guys. Their dads need to smack 'em on the back of the head and tell 'em "pull your damned pants up boy you look like a moron".

Todays teens aren't being smacked upside the head near enough... Just stop by GFY if you dont believe it.

I personally love the faded look, and have way before it became the "in" thing. Large watches, no way!

Hate hate hate the baggy look where the guy is having to pull up their pants with ever step. Why not avoid having to do this by just buying the right size? My son buys his jeans at LEAST 2 sizes too big. It kills me!

Hate hate hate the big hole in the ear thing. Why in the hell do you want to see through someone's earlobe? It makes me want to throw up whenever I see it.

Hate hate hate the baggy look coupled with the large earlobe! I say there should be a law that limits your "in" fashion choice to 1!

I grew up in a VERY strict household where my mother was always worried about what people would say about HER in reference to what we wore or did. As a result, we weren't allowed to wear T-shirts or "dungarees" outside the house and I wasn't allowed to wear pants to school. My school also had a strict dress code - just not as strict as my mother :awinky: - no sneakers OR white socks for the boys, no opened back or opened toed shoes for the girls, etc. And needless to say, G_d WILL strike you down if you wear white after Labor Day or before Easter!

It must have been one of the ONLY things I didn't rebel against as I still dress conservatively. I don't think I've ever worn a t-shirt outside the house, lol!

But I do get a special kick out of the thought of my son visiting with her when he's wearing a t-shirt as I know she's twitching and convulsing inside. :P

So for those who wouldn't wear a large-faced watch. Is this because you have become accustomed to smaller faced watches as the norm and the larger faces are too extreme compared to your view of what constitutes a "normal" watch?

They just look big and goofy.
Plus the bigger they are, the more they get in the way. Usually heavier, too... you're more aware that it's there and it bugs you more.

One of the biggest mistakes in suit buying I ever made was an all silk suit. It looked quite good and I got a ton of compliments on it but it just wasn't me!! Never felt comfortable in it. <_< Women loved it and guys hated it. Remember back in the 80's when the faded jeans look was really in and people were taking them out back and shooting them with shotguns, then selling the resulting multi-holed mess for hundreds of dollars?
Crazy shit.

I *did* buy a faded jean jacket back then, took it to Ocean City and had the grim reaper airbrushed on the back. Wore that thing out so bad the cuffs nearly fell off.

I have a strong dislike for logo'd merchandise of almost any type (with the exception of sports teams). I can understand being a fan of the Tuscaloosa Tinkerbells in the Cow Country Hockey League - when you need to prove where you buy your shit in order to obtain some sort of status, you have a pretty pathetic life, IMHO.

Overall, I'm too damned old for fashion - people my age tend to look silly at best when trying to dress according to QG/Vogue. The frustrating part about that is, of course, it would be so easy - after all, I probably have some of it in the closet.

I'm not a big fan of sports team merchandise - though I do have a Canes shirt I jog in occasionally.

"Fashion" I'm not that fond of (with a few exceptions):

baseball caps
polo shirts
sneakers (haven't worn them for at least a decade)
speedo's
gold jewelry
porn conference t-shirts

Things I don't currently have myself but think look good on other people:

Tattoos
Piercings

Philosophically opposed to:

People that wear clothing that is way too tight for their body. If you're overweight, wear baggy clothing.

Anything from the 80's coming back. 70's retro was ok but 80's retro should be killed dead in its tracks.

Oh, yeah:

Great rule of thumb :: If you wore it the first time. don't wear it when it comes back.

I can't say there's anything i can't stand to look at really. Other than 12 year olds dressing like hookers. Some parents really need to be sterilized.

The faded tight fit jeans and retro look seems to be the big thing at the moment, at least here in Australia. And while i don't mind what it actually looks like, i can't help but laugh at what people pay for it. I have a couple of friends that have spent several hundreds of dollars on a single pair of jeans. One of them is very self concious. He actually tries to give me shit for buying a no-name brand 30 dollar pair of jeans. Nothing like pulling out the 200 dollar difference from my wallet and pointing out that he's still in debt.

And "designer" clothing. Who the fuck pays 50 dollars for a plain white t-shirt, 'cause it has a lable sticking out along the stitch? Shallow and insecure individuals. They're all made in the same shitty Chinese sweatshop.

The way i see if, if anyone has a lower opinion of me for not feeling the need to impress people with the price of my clothes, then i probably don't want to talk to them anyways. And i don't think less of my friends that do try to keep up with all the trends. I just keep quiet when they have their fashion discussions.
