The northern lights streamed over Anchorage on Saturday night. This image, taken from the Glen Alps viewing deck, is six photos pieced together digitally to form a panorama looking north across the Chugach Range. (Photo by Scott McGee)

That is just incredible! Dumb question: do the Northern Lights move like they do when you see them on TV or are they showing them in fast motion? I'm sorry that sounds ignorant, but I really don't know and always wondered. :(
Thanks for the pic!! :) :)

Yeah, they move pretty fast.
As long as it's dark enough to really see it, sometimes the lights flicker as fast as lights in a club.. or almost like sunlight shimmering on water.. It's really trippy!

Hey Quashe,
Nope, this is the only version of the pic I have. It was posted on the Newspaper's website.
The strange thing is, you can't take a picture of the Northern Lights with a digital camera.
I guess you need a tripod, special film and you have to set the exposure up a certain way. I'm not sure how to do it.
