I bet a lot of y'all watched him as kids. My younger ones wouldn't miss the show.

And one of my favorite Statler Brothers songs is now missing a line.

And the Oak Ridge Boys, and Alabama...
At the Alabama concert my Mom and I were up front and the crowd was crushing me; Randy motioned for the security guys to lift me up on the stage and I spent most of the concert sitting right there in front of Randy. Best seat in the house!
Afterwards he sent out a guard with a towel to give me and then they all signed it for me and gave me hugs, it was great :)

I loved the show as a little kid - when it had been on for less than five years - and watched it again in the 70s when my own children watched it.

I gotta say, while Mr. Green Jeans was pretty cool, the babe he had on the show in the 70s was HOT!

Galloping Flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playing solitaire 'till dawn
With a deck of 51

Funny story - the Pulp Fiction soundtrack was in a nudie bar I used to go to and I would pay dancers to dance to "Galloping Flowers"

When intoxicated some things are just too funny and classic

See Ya Captain Kangaroo, give my best to Mr. Rabbit and Moose

First Mr. Rogers, now the Captain.

I didn't cry for him like I did Mr. Rogers. There will never be another Mr. Rogers. :cryin: :cryin: :cryin:

Mr. Rogers always came across as some gay pedophile. Even as a child I never liked nor trusted him. He always had that voice that was like Hal the Computer ... so mild, and ready for him to go postal. hehe

Ok, now that I've defiled one children's icon, let me at say that on the other hand Captain Kangaroo, and Mister GreenJeans and Bulwinkle and the rest just totally rocked. :wnw:

.... Think I'll pop into the old WayBack Machine and give him and the gang a call now. :)

He was also the first Clarabelle on the Howdy Doody show... :D

I kinda felt guilty yesterday because I can remember a bunch of Mr. Rogers' shows as clear as a bell, but I can't remember any of Capt. Kangaroo's shows. I used to watch them all the time when I was a kid; I loved the show.

Weren't they both really nasty SOBs in the military? Like the equivalent of Buff back then?

Torone I love country music, but I also love rock n' roll, metal, rap, techno... I drive hubby crazy cuz I'll be blasting music and go from Metallica to Martina McBride; it's like culture shock for that "little white headbangin' boy", hehe. I think he's finally gotten used to it though. :P
(Then again he'll get me back by wandering through the house singing something from Firesign Theatre, lol)

Captain Kangaroo?

Was this guy Australian or is this some kind of joke?

I haven't looked at THEIR military records; but here's an aside about another good guy we recently lost...Johnny Cash was, for many years, an active CIA agent.

Y'know, I might disagree with you from time to time; but anyone who likes country music can't be all that bad...even if they do like that terrible rock stuff. :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Johnny was CIA??? Holy shit, I never knew that. Wow.
I just checked on Snopes.com - although Capt. Kangaroo was in the military, he never saw action; and Mr. Rogers never served in the military. The stories of them both being bad-asses are myths.

Don Knotts was a drill instructor, though. Hard to imagine!

I can...Barney Fife was a fairly close parody of a DI.

Helmet Newton and Captain Kangeroo. The powers that be must be angry at us. It is enough to make someone gothic . . .
