View Full Version : Is Yellowstone getting ready to blow?

You gotta read this.
http://proliberty.com/observer/20031219.htm

Some snippets:
"In July, 2003, Yellowstone Park rangers closed the entire Norris Geyser Basin because of deformation of the land and excessive high ground temperatures. There is an area that is 28 miles long by 7 miles wide that has bulged upward over five inches since 1996, and this year the ground temperature on that bulge has reached over 200 degrees (measured one inch below ground level). "

"Then during the last part of July one of the Park geologists discovered a huge bulge at the bottom of Yellowstone Lake. The bulge has already risen over 100 feet from the bottom of the lake and the water temperature at the surface of the bulge has reached 88 degrees and is still rising.

Keep in mind that Yellowstone Lake is a high mountain lake with very cold water temperatures."

"A source that has demonstrated first-hand knowledge of the park's history and recent geothermal events stated the following: “The American people are not being told that the explosion of this 'super volcano' could happen at any moment. When Yellowstone does blow, some geologists predict that every living thing within six hundred miles is likely to die. The movement of magma has been detected just three-tenths of a mile below the bulging surface of the ground in Yellowstone raising concerns that this super volcano may erupt soon.” "

Everything in Yellowstone park is dying. Trees, flowers, fish by the thousands, all of the animals are migrating out... the whole place stinks of sulfur and the entire area has gotten VERY hot... they've had to close down the majority of the park just for people's safety.

How long before you think she goes?
I heard on the radio the other night that when she does go, it's gonna make Mt. St. Helens look like a playtoy. Scary stuff.

Why is this not being reported in any major newpaper or TV?

This looks like a press release for some movie or something.

The area 51 was really in yellowstone.. there's a HUGE ass alien spacecraft getting ready to take off.

The only thing I can think of Mike is the widespread panic it would cause and the rush of people leaving the area. Massive financial crisis there in Wyoming and even the surrounding states as people move further away (like, say, Florida lol).

You know how governments are - they think of the bottom line first and always assume there's more time to "fix" things.

This has been a fear since I was a kid...but always seemed like something that would never happen...I imagine the sulfer smell there wouldn't be nearly as bad as Thermopolis...that town totaly reaked...

I don't think this would be any bigger financial disaster to the state than the Reagan buttfucking of the late 80's...the state is just now recovering from that mess.....and the wildfires of a couple years ago hurt Yellowstone as well...

Wow changing things up....

What really surprises me is that I can't find an animation that illustrates just what will happen when/if Yellowstone ever goes... immediate destruction, range of ash cover (I'm guessing it would black out the entire country), how long we'd be blacked out, etc.

I would think someone would've made one of those long ago.

ROFLMAO!!

Thanks for the laugh there PD!! Laughed extremely hard cause I expected one of your "lecture" type quotes and such but instead got sarcasm!

Ok, this IS scary as shit because it is actual big changes that could be telltale for bigger things to come!

I did see a special on yellowstone on PBS a while back and they said some interesting things. One was that the supervolcano will eventually blow, but there is no way geologically to guestimate the size since no supervolcano has erupted in recorded history. They also theorized that one went off in Omaha (I think Omaha anyhow) and that it may have killed off most of the giant animals that roamed north america after the dinosaurs. Things like huge cats larger than a lion, etc.

But it was all theory, and when scientists say something is due to happen soon they are usually talking in terms of earth time, which means it may go off anytime in the next 50,00 years or so.

Whatever happens, I'm happy to be faaaaaaar away from there.

what did Reagan do in the 80s to yellowstone ?

I thought Reagan outlawed trees...

There was a great special on Discovery last night about volcanoes. It was mostly about the Krakatoa explosion in 1883. The explosion was so massive it was heard over 1000 miles away. It dumped so much ash into the atmosphere that the world's temperature dropped and it took 6 years for it to return to normal. It killed over 40,000 people. That's some of the fun we have to look forward to.

Nothing to Yellowestone...he killed Wyoming's economy with that whole japanese/us steel fiasco...totally wiped out central Wyoming as the iron ore mines were responsible for most of the income in that part of the state...the unions weren't exactly helpful either...

I remember growing up in that area and watching friends I'd grown up with lose their homes to bankruptcy. I saw businesses having to close down due to no one having the money to spend on them. I watched a vibrant town lose 35% of its population and other towns just turn into ghost towns...

The whole blankmailing the state to raise the drinking age was another matter entirely, but nonetheless pissed off a lot of people who missed the cutoff date for the grandfather clause ;-))

TheEnforcer
01-19-2004, 01:22 PM
They still blackmail states over drinking issues. They just blackmailed Wisconsin over the .1 and .08 debate for drunk driving. Would have lost a shitload of highway money if we didn't change and the legislators, yet again, caved.

Only those trees that couldn't be exploited for commercial purposes* ... :D

I haven't seen that particular Discovery Channel show yet, but I will look out for it. If that kind of thing interests you, check out the book Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded: August 27, 1883 by Simon Winchester. It's a well-written book that covers the geology so that even the science-impaired can understand it. It also includes a number of eyewitness accounts, and talks about it the way the western media covered it (because of the completion of some underwater telegraph cables, it was one of the first natural disasters reported around the world in "real time"). The history of the islands even gets into the relationship between the Dutch and Islamic fundamentalists.

* Please note - that was a joke. It should not be interpreted that I believe that President Ronald Reagan was a participant in any sort of vast right-wing conspiracy, although it admittedly sidesteps the issues of criminal obstruction of justice and/or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

lol - widespread panic? Doubtful . . . take a look at California for example. EVERYONE knows the BIG ONE is coming. Hell, they get serious reminders every month of it. Widespread panic, although seemingly an obvious feeling, is something that isn't as easy to instigate as one might imagine . . .

"The movement of magma has been detected just three-tenths of a mile below the bulging surface of the ground in Yellowstone "

We're different; but the vast majority of the general public has no idea that 3/10 of a mile is only 1584 feet. That's damned close!

Unfortunately, even if the environmental wackos allowed such an attempt, the size hole necessary to relieve that pressure is beyond our ability to drill (not the depth; but the diameter). In fact, by creating a weak spot, it might even trigger the eruption.

We just landed an RC car on Mars. Never underestimate our ability to solve problems.

They need to hire the company that implodes Vegas Hotels to create coordinated explotions that would effectively cut a huge hole in the ground. It seems like a technique like this with the right engineers involved could be the equivelent of drilling any size hole we could need.

Of course, we could just do nothing and let nature take it's course. Who are we to interfere with molten lava? :)

You know I was thinking same thing. Why could we not tap it somehow, and use the heat to generate electricty?

But hey, what do I know, I am only a pornographer!

Well it's on protected land; a federal park. That ixnays any building/industry usage right there. Although the geysers *are* pressure relief valves and they'd be great at producing some energy... sticking something on top of them to tap it would mess up the (dead/dying) scenery. :)

HAHA yeah Al Gore would flip out. That is the problem with the tree huggers. They put nature above humans....

The earth first people would probably be very happy to the volcano blow and destroy most of civilization.....

Sad but true.
