View Full Version : Static Electricity in Vegas

I tell you what, I don't remember getting shocked that much since SERE School (That's the Army School where they teach us how to withstand torture and interrogation by telling the enemy that we don't know jack shit, but our buddy in the next cage over knows everything they're trying to find out so they should interrogate him instead).

Seriously, everytime I touched anything metal -- BIZZZZAP! Everytime I shook hands -- ZAP! It was ridiculous.

Anyone else notice this?

Definitely...guess they needed a better humidifier for the desert.

Yes - the lack of humidity increases static electricity. I zapped Katie a few times with kisses.

Maybe Colin can invent some kind of wearable battery that will absorb the static electricity on the body and do something useful with it besides zap each other.

the shocks in the Aladdin reached an insane level. I ended up using a tissue to put money into slots after one shock came complete with a blue spark.

On the show floor it was freakin terrible.....the electricity could be seen for gods sake everytime you shook hands!!! Anytime I'm on my way to the gym, wearing running pants or shorts, the damn static is insane when I get out of my car and close the door....damn no humidity

Sorry it took so long to respond to your question -- I had to use my wrist darts to take out these black helos that were trailing me to lunch. Anyway, I thought that was all declassified by now, seeing as how you went through SERE back in the 40s. :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Touche! It's never as tough as it was "back in the day."

Besides, I know you went to a harder survival school, since you guys didn't know about "fire" back then and had to eat raw meat. :P

Dan, you have any problems with the fingertip models? Buffy kept shooting himself in the crotch whenever he was "waxing poetic" . I had to show him how to install the O-rings to stop misfires. Do the fingertips have the same problems? Ninja gear is tricky sometimes...

Edd, really the only problem I seem to have is when I'm wiping my ass, every now and then I shoot a dart up my butt, but hell I"m a marine, what's a little discomfort. But I have heard of the newer models that will lock on to the target and you can blacklist the crotch, butthole and other body parts or friends

Buff, raw meat wasnt too bad, eating those ants suck....takes a million to make a snack :)

I know - we saw the blue sparks too! :zoinks:

I'll confess... I *used* my husband's gentlemanly nature against him - he naturally opens and holds doors open for me and in Vegas that meant he got the shock and I got to walk through the doors un-shocked. Sure I felt bad but dammit - at least it wasn't me! :awinky:

It's pretty dry here in our desert but Vegas was above and beyond - I think all the machines have something to do with it too... I was scared to touch ANYTHING all week long!

I think we got it particuarly bad because I was pushing hubby in his chair on that carpet and it was like inviting all the static to buld up on us and just wait to spark.

Marc started lecturing one of the guys about the building not being properly earthed or something. I managed to go find something really interesting in the wallpaper to look at whilst that conversation was taking place.

I'm always shocking the fuck out of myself.

I had lightning strike next to me when I was a kid, not sure if that had anything to do with it...

I'm so self-conscious of it that when I gas up the car, I constantly touch the car a few times first so as to avoid shocking myself on the pum (I've seen video of people blowing up and shit due to a spark while gassing up...)

I found dragging my tongue on the floor as I walked seemed to prevent the problem.

It's good to be back in South Florida, my mildew was starting to wilt.

lol - interesting solution Cleo! :D

That *is* one positive thing we can say about Florida - no static shock, no dryness, and there IS a beach - so there are some positive things. Otherwise, I really have ZERO desire to attend another summer Internext. I'm really looking forward to Phoenix & San Diego - would like to see those two grow in the right direction and possibly replace the summer show entirely. :awinky:
