Acacia recently released the names of sponsors that have licensed with them.

The list has already made the rounds on the boards, but I have packaged up that story along with some additional news, with the expected FTP satirical slant.

Acacia is not the only company to watch out for.. as I have been reporting and tracking, USA Video also has a patent claim to downloading video "faster than real time".

Andrew Huffman is USA Video's lead attorney, and he said in a recent trade magazine:

"Huffman also told us that USA Video has "not ruled out" seeking licensing fees from companies that have already reached settlements with Acacia"

Makes perfect sense for USA Video (stock ticker USVO), a publicly traded company. Great way for them to increase their share price after seeing Acacia's stock (stock ticker ACTG) climb high.

Acacia is trading in the high $5's, while USVO is around $0.40/share

Doesn't take a day trader to figure out what's the best way to get the stock price higher.

Brandon do you know the licensing fees that USA Video and SightSound are asking?

Great question... no i don't since neither company has started to target companies outside of their inital lawsuits.

Sightsound.com used to sell audio and videos from their website, but have taken it down, in favor of a new business model.... *drum roll please*.. in licensing patents.

They are currently busy with their lawsuit with BMG which starts in April. After waiting for 7 years to get the trial, I am sure they will be focusing on BMG..and if they are successful, then i see them potentially eyeing the adult industry for all the hoopla that the Acacia issue has generated.

SightSound's patent includes the paid download or subscription to a service that involves digital audio/video.. so you can see how they apply to the adult space.

USA Video is busy with MovieLink.com which is made up of 5 of the top Hollywood shops. Their "downloading of video faster than real time" patent is being tested against MovieLink.com and as i posted earlier, their lead attorney has not ruled out taking the path where the "low hanging fruit" is at.

Fuck them. I fucking hate patents. I'm gonna move my companies to middle of darkest africa (as well as my servers).. the bastards gotta come there to sue me... or finland. not sure yet.

TGF I think most are safe outside the US. when and if they knock over the US porn industry they will have to make a decision to go for an overseas market or another US industry. The cost of going overseas will be horrendous.

Well there next move was to target education.

But if they decide to set up a franchise organisation, selling licenses to sue over their patents we might have a problem.

But how long will it be before the EU decide to put a stop to this madness?

So how many times can you patent the same idea?
