View Full Version : Want to go on a treasure hunt in Vegas?

There are three treasures hidden in Vegas itself - "Feeling Lucky" and "Triangle Building" will no doubt be easy to find. "Crystal Clear" might take a bit longer.

You'll need a stamp and/or a pen; and if you want to keep part of the treasure you should bring your own piece of paper or notebook.

This is something very old and cool that's been going on in Europe for nearly 200 years, it's new to the states but there are treasures everywhere. Be sure to check the map on the site for your own state to see if there are any near where you live. :)
If you're driving to Vegas, you could even see what treasures you can find along your route!

Every time I see someone saying that, I think they're calling my name... (which is, btw, Treasure Hunt)

Well I learn something new everyday - what a neat thing! :) I doubt I'll do it in Vegas, but there are a ton around here. Thanks for the link!

LOL @ Bishop & Grim
LM this would be perfect for you, then! :)

Peaches there are a ton around here too but *none* in my particular city... which gives me ideas :groucho:
I can't wait to go find a couple and see some of the interesting logs from the other people that have found them. Most of these letterboxing folks make their own stamps, I bet some of the logs are really cool. :okthumb:

Thanks for the link Carrie! With as much traveling we do, this sounds like a cool thing to get the kid involved in.

I have zero creativity, so making my own stamp would be impossible, but I did find this (http://www.krittersinthemailbox.com/animals/dogs/pugs/ebdpug1b.htm) and this. (http://www.krittersinthemailbox.com/animals/dogs/pugs/ebdpug1h.htm)

This seems like an ubergeek hobby to me. Looks like a good way to get rid of the wife for a day or 2 though. :P

There's one where it's all done via a GPS that's more "geeky". :awinky: I was going to try that when I got my GPS from ARS but I never could figure out the damn thing so I gave it away. :P

This seems more like a good hiking/bike riding thing. I love to hike but sometimes it gets a bit boring (I've been known to utter the phrase "Let's try going back THIS way instead of the way we came"...not always a good plan...) and this can liven it up a bit.

There might even be some on golf course and ski resorts. :okthumb:

Oh lord... there is one within a few miles of me right now.. I'm going to go out and get smashed one night and lead the office staff on a mad quest to find the freaking treasure now.. its bound to happen.

Bishop, take video!! I'd advise going while it's still daylight though :awinky:

Peaches I'm gonna end up buying stamps too (at least one for me and one for the kidlet). There's a scrapbooking store here that has a bunch of stamps, I can probably find one there that's "fitting". I like the one you found of the standing pug!

With all of the places that Serge and LL go, can you imagine the neat ones they could find all over the world? Now that would be cool.

Wow... thank you SO MUCH for this link. I really think this will become our new family project. The kids are all psyched and are bugging me to get down to the art store before it closes so they can start working on their carved stamps. lol

THANKS! :bdance: :bjump: :cdance: :bwave: :purpdance:

I'm going to start leaving these things all over the place asking people to put in their email address. Then I'm going to spam them with mountain biking equipment and crap like that. I really am moving to the dark side. :)

Carrie

Ulfie some people make their stamps with their URLs on them; others leave requests in the box to email the person who placed it and let them know when you found it. Your idea isn't far off but yeah, I'd say you've definitely moved to the dark side, LOL

You and Dravyk should schedule yourselves for spankings with LittleC in Vegas for atonement

You're in the right neighborhood for it....there are tons of 'em scattered throughout the N. Ga. Mountains.

Gotta have a hand held unit though....the ones in the car will keep leading you into trees...

It WAS a handheld which was why I never could figure the damn thing out. It was in b/w, had all kinds of coordinates and crap, I had to download things, etc. I'd turn it on at home and not even know where I was, let alone actually leaving the house and trying to get directions somewhere. I finally gave it away after letting it sit in a box for a few years. :(

Ok, you probably wouldn't like geocaching then because it basically challenges you to see how well you can use your GPS.

You'd probably like the car versions though. You just give it the address of where you want to go and it'll give you audible directions as you drive.

You can also do cool stuff like pull up a yellow pages type listing of restaurants and things that are nearby, and then after selecting one have it give you directions right to the door. Very cool.

There is only one in Central Oklahoma and it is no more than 5 miles from me. I've probably driven by the spot it talks about hundreds of times. I might go and have a look at it tomorrow.
