View Full Version : Did you pay the VISA Fee?
I am curious how many amateurs went ahead and paid the VISA fees and how many went with other options.
What contributing factors helped you make the decision you made?

Oh... none of the options applies to me in the poll. We went with a processor off U.S. that still process and been working very well for us so far! Maybe one day we'll have no other choice but it's been a year we are getting ready for that eventuallity and still didn't have to switch over. Which makes us really happy because paying those fees when we opened our websites would have been a major expense especially it was in U.S. $ and on top of it, we would have had to incorporate there...

Would you mind sharing which processor you are using? (guess I could look at your site too, lol :)
We have alot of Int'l clients, so I would be interested in hearing about them!

I've said it before....I'll say it again.
If you cant afford $750, you probably shouldn't be running a standalone paysite.

When we started we couldn't have afford it... We started with no traffic, no knowledge of the web and no money to invest as a lots of people does so our goal was to keep the cost low. But I am happy for you if you started and made 1000's the first days and knew everything about the web! I started last year and porn business was not at it's biggest... Now thought, we can afford it, just don't want to incorporate in the U.S. even if it implies that one day I might have to move to Europe.

We're using Verotel. They are off in the Netherlands and so far, it's been working great for us and many people we know who are using it.
We keep thinking of the eventuallity but so far, we've been fine.

Ok yea we have many clients using Verotel. I thought maybe it was someone else. I have found their support to be not that great unfortunately and many issues with passwords being added through unsecure scripts. Hopefully they can get that part under control. From the side of fucntionality and receiving payments, I have heard no complaints and clients are happy with that part :)

I got a friend of mine the other day to show me how he hacks websites... He went on my site, found the holes but it wasn't through my password security he found it... He told me that more often than we think, hackers have control on a server and it's pretty easy to be done, just have to find the right hole. Most of the times too, the owners of the server have no ideas...
Even thought he wasn't able to get into my password file and add a script to generate passwords, he showed me in about 5 minutes how he added that script to a CCBill password file as well to the IBill one... Pretty scary stuff. That thing keeps generating passwords, as soon as one is deleted, it generates another one. He told me it was really easy once you knew where the file is, what name they use for the file and supposely it's pretty much always the same thing from site to site.

Yup, CCBill's answer to this is hide the script with a very very long directory name with lots of random numbers and letters.
They also used to leave a whereami script used by their techs in the cgi-bin directory after a new install that had a hole you could drive a truck thru in it.
Epoch's old scripts also had holes. As long as CGI's are used to add passwords, there'll always be hacks.
