So I'm sitting here locked out of the data center because they had to rekey the doors after firing some ass over the weekend. I figure ill catch up on oprano with this sidekick cell phone I have.
This board is formatted for shit if your using a wap device.
Edd can we plug in a wap interface for those of us that are technically suave?

Its not bad. Its in color and if you look at it the screen size is bigger than that Osborne OS1 I used to have with its 4" amber monitor.

Sound too.
Its fast as well....I havent tried it with vids or anything yet.

I haven't looked, but I would be surprised if there isn't a WAP or AvantGo mod for Invision...

I'd use it. I'm prone to surf WAP style while waiting on movies to start, etc.

Ditto. Considering they are under zero obligation to obtain this, and it's the WEBMASTER who bears the burden if it's not filled out, I don't see the point of locking webmasters out of every single portion of their webmaster support boards. You can't read or post on the forums, check your stats, contact them about other opportunities they claim they're interested in, redeem reward points, etc.

In addition, it took 3 emails and 2 postings on their board for me to get anyone to even respond to my questions about it.

I have no problems doing what *I* need to do for MY business taxes, but the process they have enacted in order to get W9's is just bizarre, IMHO.

Hey guys, I was under the impression that once the deadline was passed the accounts would be unlocked and the tax situation would be resolved through automatic deduction... As soon as the appropriate person arrives this morning here at ARS I'll consult and get back to you about your accounts. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Per your site, the deadline per the IRS is 12/31 (which is when I plan on sending mine in - waiting until the last minute on principle :awinky: ) but the total lock down would occur on 12/15.

Again, it was an absurd and drastic measure on ARS's side, IMHO. I'm glad I didn't want to redeem any points for Christmas gifts as I would have been unable to due to the lock down, even though I had "earned" them.

Peaches & Gonzo,

The reason ARS is requiring a w-9 to be submitted is that after the Jan 1, if we don't have a w-9 on file for you, we will be obligated to begin withholding 28% of your revenue for taxes. All the w-9 does is state that you are responsible for your own tax liability on your earnings.

We were requesting the w-9's be submitted since back in September. Earlier this month we added an "in your face" announcement when you logged into the site that we needed to get those in as soon as possible. On 12/19 we took the measure of denying access to the site as a last resort for those who had still not got them in. Unfortunately that's what it is taking to get some webmasters to take action and get the form to us.

We don't want to have to start withholding and I'm sure you don't want that either. I don't understand why people are waiting until the last minute and getting all bent out of shape about this. As soon as we receive the w-9 from you, your site access will be restored. What's the point in waiting until the last minute?

Gonzo- are you saying you moved your ARS traffic to WEG Cash because we asked you to fax us a form? I just don't get it.

Asking is one thing - not answering emails and message board posts as well as blocking the entire site just because you don't get a form which if you DON'T get, becomes the WEBMASTER'S onus, not ARS's, is something entirely different. :(

Every other sponsor of mine who has asked for a W9 has received it (and even though I don't get 1099's from many sponsors because I'm a corp, for some reason I thought I had been getting them from you, but I checked my tax returns and I was in error) but the "in your face" approach, as you referred to it, was uncalled for, IMO. Though my opinion and $1 won't buy you much more than a cheap cup of coffee. :awinky:

When we hired independent contractors we still had to get the W-9 so that if they made more than $600 in the calendar year we could notify the IRS (which we were obligated to do).
We'd send them a 1099 and it *was* their responsibility to report it, but it was *also* our responsibility to report anything over $600 so the IRS could check up on them.

I could be wrong, from but from what I've read on the IRS site, if you didn't get a W9 from them, there would be no penalty applied to you. You would just have to do as ARS is stating they will be doing - deducting 28% from payments and letting the contractor deal with getting some/all/none of it back at tax time. :)

Peaches

And again I'll add - it was the WAY they demanded the form - in 10+ years of being an independent contractor/corporation, I've never dealt with something like that. :( I think the blocking of the rewards redemption just before Christmas was a little over the top. :awinky:

Nope...let me make it crystal for you.
I said I was moving traffic around and when I added WEG I decided to go an revisit ARS. Actually I had planned on sending you some of this Alta Vista hit bonanza Ive gotten into.
My account was locked down. No email response no nothing.
So your fuck it. Ill send all that traffic to WEG.

You can make light of it as if Im worried about filling out an IRS form.
Ill just point out as Peaches has that that your customer service sucked ass on this issue.

So theres my "In Your Face" rebuttal.

Gonzo,

I answered webmaster emails from home even on Christmas day during this. Who did you send an email to that did not respond? All the webmaster service reps at ARS carry a cell phone that is on 24-7. There are several ways to reach your account rep at any time.

If the main problem was with the way we had to block access to the site, I'm sorry. Unfortunately that is the only way we can get some webmasters to respond. As I said, we started asking for the w-9's back in September, but it wasn't until we started denying access to the site that we got a flood of w-9's in the fax machine.

I'm not Gonzo (though we look alike after a few drinks...) but I sent an email to Jennifer Van Avery at jvanavery@i2intl.com as instructed on my "blockage page" on 12/8 and another one on 12/22 which she did finally respond to. I could tell you the dates when I posted on the ARS message board, but of course, I have no access to it. :awinky:

In addition, I don't recall anyone asking for it "back in September" either.

But hey, if you guys felt it necessary to do what you did, it's your company so there's no arguing with that. :)

Shit, I'm glad you guys brought this up here. I just found out mine's locked out too. First I've hard of it.

I dont send big traffic over there, so I only check my stats page once in a blue moon.

The handling seems a bit heavy handed to me.
