View Full Version : Question for females

My girlfriend told me tonight she wants to just be friends right now. She said she has this strong feeling that she has had for a while now, but isn't sure what to do about it. She told me she has had this feeling with an old boyfriend while they were going out, she said she had been right about it. She says things might work out, and they might not. She won't tell me anything more. I really like this girl, she is everything I've been looking for. I was even going to be abstinant for her, because she is waiting until she gets married. There are some girls at work that are calling her a whore because she is dating me, because that is the kind of image I made for myself, which before I met her was true. But after meeting her, I realized it's not all about that. Any pointers? Any questions?

This is perfect timing young man... You are going to Vegas, and you are now single!
You are a youngster, you should not think about settling down for another 10 years....
Have fun!

I agree! live now while you can. Take it from someone that got married too young!

Yep yep - wait until you're about 30 to look around seriously. Being married with a couple of kids on an Air Force paycheck would *not* be fun. 80% of our armed forces with families of 4 (that's two parents, two kids) are on food stamps.
Have all the fun you can, experience all that you can, make all of the money that you can. That way when you do settle down and have kids, you can focus completely on your family with no leftover doubts or regrets on things you never did.

PS - she *did* tell you how she feels.
Men have this habit of "not hearing" when the woman is saying something they don't want to hear. :)

Yup. She did. <_<
And I agree on the "you're too young to settle down" thing that everyone has been saying... and take it from someone who got married *too* early (18 years, 2 weeks) and was married in the military (we got married @ Ft. Sill, OK on base while hub was in AIT) - it's TOUGH. VERY tough.
The letters... the phone calls... trust me, it makes a hard thing even harder. This girl might be everything that you think you want... but at your age it's hard to tell what you really want - and would still want for the rest of your life.
Fuggedaboudit and have LOTS of fun in Vegas - you've got a whole lot of life ahead of you... enjoy! :salute:

Why won't you tell a man how you feel?
You know how it is .... Women just can't get in touch with their feelings and share them as openly as us guys.
... Ok, ok. But I just HAD to say that ONCE in my lifetime!

move on ... plenty more like her and you'll find yourself using the same line every now and again :biglaugh:

As the oldest (and still the most pursued) guy here, let me give you a bit of unorthodox advice...
Women aren't evil; but they ARE predisposed to being dominatrixes. When one gives you the dreaded 'Let's be friends' speech, you have allowed her to actually BE in control. Enjoy life, and always leave 'em wanting more...
BTW, there's a reason my 2nd wife nicknamed me 'Torone'. :D

That hit the nail on the head........
Your problem is that you want to know why? You want to know why she doesn't feel like you do. Right?
There are many questions in life that are never answered, so get used to it. Move on..... you are just going through 'the impatience of youth. At your age I wanted to know how my life was going to turn out... couldn't wait to find out. Well, it never turned out like I dreamed it would. (thank God!) My first loves are just passing memories. You are hurt right now... but I am sure you have heard this before..... TIME takes care of things on it's own. So, don't sweat it.... open your life to NEW opportunities. They are out there if you are ready for them.

Love is just an electro-chemical sensation in the brain; or, as we learn from Satan in The Devil's Advocate:
Kevin Lomax: What about love?
John Milton: Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate.

At least she told you now instead of dragging you along for a few more years, and then STILL not getting any ;)
You have to respect a woman that speaks her mind. Obviously she is not ready for a committed relationship, so why would you want to drive down that one way street?
Your a cutie, come to Texas and I am sure my girlfriends will eat you up...or at least whats left after Brad has his way with you ;)))

Let me mention that he's also only known her for a few months and only been going out with her for a month or so. I've also heard this same sentence from him many times before. :P
The mentality here is why I didn't raise him in a small town. At the HS here about 40% of the kids go to college where the HS he graduated from had a 99%+ college rate. Around here if you're his age and haven't been married at least once and have a couple of kids, you're running behind. :awinky:
He needs to get out of here, lol!
See "When Harry Met Sally" - Men and Women are never really friends
Once again grasshopper, seek Tom Leykis for advice
more opinion about people and relationships
You really don't know fully know someone you're seeing until you've known them for a year
There is 30 day nice - all the pleasantries they can show/offer
60 day nice - a little more of the "real" person comes into play
90 day nice - if there is a facade it is starting to crack
6 month nice - If the person you're seeing has problems (hopefully not) they are coming into the relationship more now
1 Year - the cat's out of the bag -
you now have the "real" person - hopefully they are not farting in front of you but if they are - that's what you're going to have
CT - you have only been seeing the female a few months, give it time and space (never easy) keep yourself busy doing positive things -
GO HAVE FUN!!!
p.s. did you ever notice most marriage counselors are either divorced or gay?
- what's that tell you?
Those who can't do ....... teach B)

WOW... is THAT the truth!
Hub and I started dating in February - he went to the Army in May - we got married in August. It's a miracle that we're still totally in love with each other, and have been married for 16+ years. All of the other alumni from his BT unit are all divorced - we are the only "survivors."
In all honesty - we were LUCKY.
You really don't know a person until you've been together for over year - have been through at least one difficult/trying personal/emotional crisis together and have had a couple of really good arguments...
Peaches... sounds like the small town where I grew up in Ohio - only I was "small town" too long - married @ 18, baby @ 20, 2nd baby @ 21... GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!! lol :awinky:
Oh John... if you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it's was yours all along.
If it doesn't....
hunt it down and kill it ;)
Really I think you just need some time to chill out and see how you feel. You may decide in a month that you never really cared about this chick anyway.

Honestly, I'm one of those girls that kinda freak out when things are going good .. and when they're going bad .. and when I cant really tell where they're going .. I'm the worst kind. Basically I suggest you put up a little fight .. tell her that she's special to you (but dont go overboard) .. and then just keep it friendly .. Maybe start dating somebody else (or even just say you're going on a date) and see how she reacts. Sometimes you dont really know a good thing until its gone .. give her a little time and space .. and if she's not begging to get back together in a month or so .. move on. Man, I'm so fickle .. no wonder I'm single :biglaugh:

As the oldest (and still the most pursued) guy here, let me give you a bit of unorthodox advice...
Women aren't evil; but they ARE predisposed to being dominatrixes. When one gives you the dreaded 'Let's be friends' speech, you have allowed her to actually BE in control. Enjoy life, and always leave 'em wanting more...
BTW, there's a reason my 2nd wife nicknamed me 'Torone'. :D
A relationship based on a constant power struggle is very unhealthy. It wont take long for her to get annoyed and tell ya to fuck off.

We're obviously going to be staying single for a while...

Being another member of the "I got married way too damn young" club, I'll agree that you shouldn't bet it all on one girl. However, I'm not exactly qualified to tell you how you feel or how to handle those feelings. Take Kath for example. Things were tough, but they made it (extremely inspiring to me, btw). Me and my ex didn't and so many more don't. It would probably depress us all to know the know the number that fail compared to those who do not. I'm a firm believer in what is meant to happen will happen. Unfortunately, my impatience hasn't allowed me to let what is supposed to happen, happen to me. I always have to open my big mouth, run away or intervene in some other unnecessary way.
Yeah, we're complicated as a mother fucker. :D

clemsontiger - she may have come up with some excuse of how she feels but the key is finding out what she TRULY meant. I'm not passing judgement on her or your relationship but that sounds like a 'I'm not attracted to you' or 'I found someone new I wanna be with' line of SHIT to me. Sorry if that came off insensitive and I could be 100% off basis but women CAN be evil (not all necessarily are).
BTW, Happy New Year everyone... :cdance:

Maybe it's not that she's evil, she's just not interested in investing so much time and emotion into a relationship where one party could be called away at any given moment for a few years. Don't forget that Clemson is basically on-call for the next 350 days or so to take off for boot camp.

HE likes to think he's basically in.....but he's not. They are waiting for the AF surgeon general to OK him with the metal in his arm. In talking to 100's of people, it seems it's a 50/50 situation with no rhyme nor reason as to what the decision will be. :headwall:
