So I stumbled on Maury today. No idea why I stopped. But I see this 42 year old lady has married this 14 year old boy. I am thinking... that's FUCKED. And it is.

Now think about this.
If it was a 42 year old man and a 14 year old girl.... there would be some public lynchings happening. So why is it okay for the opposite?

That woman is SERIOUSLY deranged. Or just really likes little boys.

Because it's legal for a 14 year old to marry in Arkansas where they got married and he had his parents' consent (which is required for marrying that young). (Yes, I saw the show too...Maury has wandered into Springer land)

Springer, Maury, those shows kind of disgust me. Aside from the mild humour that comes when human beings act like complete and utter fools, I really don't need to subject myself to the freaks and dregs of society. I KNOW the world is fucked up, but I really don't find a lot of amusement in watching the idiocy. THe only Maury shows I like are the ones where they help disabled kids fulfill their wishes and whatnot... Those stupid paternity shows are the WORST I think. Gee, as if it isn't bad enough the chick is a slut, sleeping with multiple guys not using protection, etc, but to publicize it on national television? Get a job, save up, get a paternity test. Airing dirty laundry on national TV is about a low as you can possibly go. I think the prevalence of those kind of shows is one of the main reasons I hardly ever watch TV anymore. I watch CSI Miami, CSI, and sometimes Andromeda.

As for age differences, personally I think it's wrong for adults to commit themselves to teenagers, but as long as there is parental permission and it's not done behind backs, it's not my place to judge, really. They aren't really hurting anyone but themselves, and who knows... Love is a very strange thing, and I've heard of some extremely unusual couples and love stories. All I can really do is wish them the best.

As for me, I'll stick with my grumpy old man.

Yes... I think that's more than a *little* ridiculous and should be illegal. What reason on EARTH should those two have for getting married? Love? Lust? I see no rational reason why 1) the parents should have approved, 2) the boy would have wanted to or 3) why the judge/preacher would have been able to sleep at night after performing that ceremony.
