One such recent example included the manufacturer's labeling of equipment where the words "Master/Slave" appeared to identify the primary and secondary sources. Based on the cultural diversity and sensitivity of Los Angeles County, this is not an acceptable identification label.

We would request that each manufacturer, supplier and contractor review, identify and remove/change any identification or labeling of equipment or components thereof that could be interpreted as discriminatory or offensive in nature before such equipment is sold or otherwise provided to any County department.

I'm sure that when people designed these devices back in the day they intended for us to think of slavery when we hooked up that hard drive or CD rom drive.

In fact some hard drives manufactured in the deep south show things like

JP10 = Rich White Land Owner
JP11 = Jiggaboo

on them so the good 'ol boys know what to set the jumpers to.



Were do these people come from? Did some bleeding heart really think that who whole Master/Slave thing (In this instance) goes back to the cotton fields? Or is this just another example of the technology industry trying to keep a brother down? I don't see anything wrong with being a master or a slave, that's why I had kids and bought a house with a really big yard that needs a lot of upkeep.

Consequently, we will be spending millions of the taxpayers dollars to refit all city, county and state vehicles with politically correct braking systems. We like to call it brake divesification. Instead of the conventional braking system incorporating a master and slave cylinder arrangement, we will have two cylinders of equal proportions, respectful of each other and mindful that both have the ability to stop the vehicle. Furthermore the cylinders painted white will stop the rear wheels in order to insulate the black cylinders from the "back of the bus trauma". The black cylinders will stop the front wheels. Yeah, GonZo and I have decided we need to buy HIM a beer next time we bump into him.

Back in the day both of us tossed down quite a few on his tab on many occasions.

There are many lessons to be learned from both the man's successes and his failures. But some of the things that led to his downfall are the things that I most respect about the man. Quite an interesting man to sit down and have beer or wine with and talk business and technology.
