if posting regularly on a board constitutes a mistake then yeah i am guilty of posting on gfy.

lack of moderation made that board what it is today.

what does any of this have to do with certain gfy personalities posting here?

i post to keep up with whats going on in the industry and to communicate with my comrades.

that aint no sin Pilate, please dont crucify me.

To answer your question then.

YES, a few us helped fuel that board.

Then it turned into what it is.

The fact that we are all self sufficient and independent is the reason the beast still thrives.

You forgot: Labret, Joe Sixpack, and a few others.

Are you blaming us for making a board too popular?

Lack of rule enforcement was not our fault.

although a board personality may come off as strong, intelligent, inventive, a leader.. in some cases its very much the opposite.. Its for people that dont have the balls to deal with reality face to face.. its an escape in most cases...

I am nothing like I appear to be on the boards, its just an act for the most part except when it comes to business, that i do take seriously... I am a lover not a fighter, except when i get caught up in this dungeons and dragons theatre... I personally am not a social outcast, I enjoy life off the internet more and more each day.

If you think about it, it is so unhealthy to live out your fantasy on a msg board kind of like the matrix, a dream where you are who you picture yourself in a fantasy world..

9 times out of 10 the person behind the nick is so transparant, its sad.. I think we all embellish some part of our lives through this form of communication with others... human nature i suppose mixed in with modern technology...

this isnt directed at anyone in particular, just made me think a little bit...

the only question I have is...
will Lensman follow into Stalin's footsteps? or NEW history gets written as we speak?

if I was a betting man, I'd say

All Is Vanity
1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

3 What profit hath a man of all his labor which he taketh under the sun?

4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

serge, i'd be wary of all the people coming in from GFY.

i don't post a lot, but do read everyday, since I know the people who post here are about business, polite, and respectful (for the most part).

either way - the name of GFY itself suggests the attitude of that board.

i hope you can keep oprano the way it has been, when I saw many GFYers coming over, i was a little concerned.

GFY used to be a great place, now its loaded with sig posting whores and people with no credibility.

I think most of us who made the transition, at least the ones you named in the title, are smart and moderately successful, at least as webmasters.

I also think we came here because there is brains here, as you say.

It's funny that people think because someone posted on GFY, that they are what you folks call 'GFYers' - I was posting on AWI, and other boards LONG before GFY came around.

These labels are fun to wear.

that is a good time.

going through a Koontz, and humidity controlled 3 million dollar Lichtensteins with a video camera and a beer.

good times are all we know brother.

:stout:
And here I was with the impression that you were a loud mouth, uncultured git!!!!

You should show this other side more often - it will work better on oprano than telling us about how much you drank last night!

>>I've been hanging out with Fletch on and offline since 97, so I guess its not a big deal to me seeing his presence on what is just a message board.

These might be 'just messageboards' but in Oprano's case, we have more original (ynot days) webmasters than any other board - a group of people who have been doing business together for 5-7 years ... in that time i've met & done business with almost all of the people who post here & consider message boards, icq & conventions combined to be responsible for that.

There's always someone who wants to try to belittle the 'message board' ideal because what they've experienced is gfy and others such boards where signatures are for sale & people post for no other reason than to whore their products ... watching the evolution from 'hangout' to 'stand alone business' has been interesting for sure & can be applied to ANY online business ...

Message boards are an industry unto themselves - they sell advertising, build relationships ... job titles have even been spawned from the way the adult industry uses boards - i told a mainstream client the other day that they needed a 'boardwhore' ... when i explained what a boardwhore was he was impressed that our shady industry has such an organised marketing 'system' ...

Liking the people you do business with enough to want to chat to them on a daily basis is fucking lucky!!

Long live message boards!!!

I get the topic.

I just don't get what is so fascinating about message board chatter. Yeah of course it all comes down to money.

Some of us just like to post.

cheers

:hic:

although a board personality may come off as strong, intelligent, inventive, a leader.. in some cases its very much the opposite..

I think we all embellish some part of our lives through this form of communication with others... human nature i suppose mixed in with modern technology...

this isnt directed at anyone in particular, just made me think a little bit...[/b][/quote]
WoW! Is the only word I can think of right now! :awinky:
