View Full Version : The Earth's Magnetic Field Is Weakening

Anyone watch the Nova science TV special on the weakening of the Earth's magnetic field?

This is some seriously scary shit. Historically, the Earth's magnetic poles reverse every 250,000 years. North becomes South and South becomes North. Its not so much a disaster once the event is complete, but rather the process of the reversal that could be disasterous for our present civilization.

We're currently long overdue for a magnetic shift. Its been 780,000 years since the last one occured. Right now scientists have noticed huge magnetic anomolies where a reduction in the field is being observed under the South Atlantic Ocean. This is one of the first indications that we're in the process of the beginning of the next shift.

The anomolies increase all over the globe till they reach the point where the flux goes into a state where the magnetic field is virtually at the crossover point and without any outward force to protect the earth.

The magnetic field is normally strong enough when its in a healthy state to protect the atmosphere from buring up from solar radiation and from exposing the surface of the Earth to the Sun's lethal gamma rays.

The fastest reversal can complete in about 30 days. If you had a compass you could watch the pointer move about 6 degrees each day til it had moved 180 degrees in all. They don't know how long the longest reversal could take, but some believe it could take years under certain conditions.

This has never happened with modern man on the planet to see the effects on us. However basically where we are vulnerable is in the massive amounts of gamma rays that would penetrate to the Earth's surface. Its kind of like saying we're gonna be dancing in the microwave oven for a period of time. All the animals on earth that rely on magnetic North to navigate wouldn't be able to know where to go. Tests done on animals and humans where the magnetic field was removed effected the neuro muscular system dramatically and they were unable to coordinate their bodies and balance properly.

The worst effect will be on electronics. Which at the peak of the reversal process will all be fried and not work. All the power grids will be unable to sustain the effects of the radiation waves and electromagnetic upheaval and will stop functioning. Computers, GPS Navigation, televisions, radios, satellites, telecom networks will all be toast. Every thing based on the current North and South coordinates will have to be reversed.

The climate will be in complete chaos as well. The atmosphere without the protection of the outward magnetic shield will become heated to abnormally high temperatures inducing lightning and thunderstorms of unimaginable size and dimension. Hurricanes, and tornadoes will be off the charts. Flooding will occur everywhere. The climatic chaos will impact the food production and agricultural abilities of Earth.

Scientists are saying indications are that this will happen sometime within the next 1200 years. We're safe in this generation, however our descendants are going to have to deal with this. On the vast timeline of Earth a 1000 years is right around the corner.

Even worse would be a polar shift. This occurs when the balance of the land mass goes out of kilter with the oceans and the planet literally flips. Civilization as we know it would be completely wiped out if this occurs and whoever managed to survive would be back to Planet of the Apes times.

does this mean we are all going to start floating off into space?

will the fat ones stay down longer?

No, but the ability of your brain to corindate your body movements will be diminished significantly.

I'd imagine pissing and hitting the bowl center will be an issue.

Exactly.

also, should I start buying canned food for my grand-grand-grand-grand children? (if I ever get laid that is).

Watch for a movie to be out about this sometime soon, with some pseudo-hero launching hundreds of simultaneous nuclear bombs set to blow up about 1,000 feet high in the atomosphere, thereby performing huge electro-magnetic explosions and somehow recharging the earth's magnetic field so we don't have to get microwaved.

Yeah but aren't we due for a big meteor to hit us before then... or depletion of the ozone layer...?

Yep, that's the other thing we have on the horizon. But at least we have a much more aggressive effort underway now at NASA to locate and map as many near earth objects as they can.

I don't know if its better to know or not to know. Though there are a lot of suggestions on how we could deflect one headed this way, they are all untested techniques thus far.

It'd be quite surreal and fascinating to see the planet get nailed by a huge one. Have 99.99% of the population wiped out, and then see how the survivors rebuild the planet.

I love it!!!! - thanks for posting it KRL

Once again more proof we don't have to worry about saving the planet,
the planet can take care of it's self nicely

It's humans that need help not the planet

I'm rooting for the magnetic shift!!!

This has never happened with modern man on the planet - that we know of, no one knows how many civilizations have been on Earth

After all we're just carbon based life forms riding around on a cosmic dust speck in a water belt

I don't believe anyone has ever seen a UFO - alien creatures might be as different from us as we are from fish or birds - so far claimed Alien sightings have lacked imagination - bunch of upright bi-peds ah ha ha ha ha

Don't forget the Methane Hydrates that line our sea floor like huge packets of expklosions waiting to shape the world yet again.

It's only a matter of time.

ALL LIFE DIES.

Moral of this story?

Live your life one day at a time, and make the most of each day.

Be happy, life is indeed short...

We are lucky enough to be here at a time when we can live life the way we want and make a wonderful life for ourselves..

Live long and prosper....

Something has to change.
Un-deniable dilemma.
Boredom's not a burden
Anyone should bear.

Constant over stimu-lation numbs me
and I wouldn't have
It any other way.

It's not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I don't want it.
I just need it.
To feel, to breathe, to know I'm alive.

Finger deep within the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Relax, turn around and take my hand.

I can help you change
Tired moments into pleasure.
Say the word and we'll be
Well upon our way.

Blend and balance
Pain and comfort
Deep within you
Till you will not have me any other way.

It's not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I don't want it.
I just need it.
To feel, to breathe, to know I'm alive.

Knuckle deep inside the borderline.
This may hurt a little but it's something you'll get used to.
Relax. Slip away.

Something kinda sad about
the way that things have come to be.
Desensitized to everything.
What became of subtlety?

How can it mean anything to me
If I really don't feel anything at all?

I'll keep digging till
I feel something.

Elbow deep inside the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Shoulder deep within the borderline.
Relax. Turn around and take my hand.

well, with all due respect yes he is but the band writes it all.

same with perfect circle, he is great at what he does, but does not deserve all the credit.

i saw tool in 93, very different.
