On Tuesday, Walt Disney Co. Chairman Michael Eisner will celebrate the eight-minute cartoon's anniversary by unveiling 75 6-foot Mickey statues at a 10 a.m. ceremony at the Magic Kingdom.

"Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations" will feature statues decorated under the direction of artists, athletes, movie stars and ordinary people.

Sir Elton John, who wrote the music for Disney's movie The Lion King -- and co-wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway show -- contributed a Mickey emblazoned with musical notes and wearing the kind of outlandish glasses that Sir Elton sometimes wears onstage.

Ice skater Michelle Kwan, meanwhile, kept hers simple, giving Mickey a heart and a peace sign to hold.

Other celebrity artists include Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks and original Mousketeer Annette Funicello.

A lot of people continued the tradition, but it was officially removed from the "sin list" (or whatever they call it) in '66. There are still a lot of schools that don't serve meat on Fridays.

I wasn't raised Catholic, but my father was a practicing Catholic and never really gave it up ... well, actually, he was as observent of it AFTER as he was before. He worked in an Italian neighborhood in St. Louis, and used to bring home some AWESOME fried fish dinners from the local church on Friday nights. He also had a special blessing that could turn meat into fish that he would pull out in emergencies ...
