Do you have an office chair that you really like? Tell me what kind it is, how long it has lasted, where you got it, and how much it cost. My ass and back are sore, and I need a new chair.
Thanks.

There's a company in Indiana called Domore/Lux that makes what they call "Intensive-use chairs" for air traffic control and 911 call centers.

The other brand that keeps popping up in searches is Herman Miller Aeron. I'm sure someone here has one of those.

I have 3 Herman Miller Aeron chairs. One for my office, one for house in New Orleans, and one for house in Tampa.

I have a $100 chair from office depot. It is quite comfortable, and will last 12-18 months.

The last time I bought a $600 chair with all kinds of wonderful ergonomic features, it lasted me 12-18 months, with no appreciable benefits to my ass (or back or anything else). The law firm got tired of replacing my chairs at 12-18 months and spend even more for one.

It lasted 20 months. I guess I have a destructive ass or something.

You said it!!

 :yowsa:

Seriously folks, if you are behind a computer a lot, you should invest in a quality chair, a quality monitor, a decent computer, and fast internet connection.

These are our tools!

I got my office chair from a Relax The Back store when I lived in Florida - I think it was 97. RelaxTheBack.com (http://www.relaxtheback.com/)

No problems with it ever.

Their stuff runs expensive compared to office depot, staples and such - but these chairs are designed for putting in mega hours.

Same here and mine's now over 2 years old.

I went to Office Max and sat in every single chair there and fell in love with this one. I ordered one of the HM Aeron's (they have, or used to have, a 30 day return policy so try before you buy) and it just wasn't worth the price, IMHO.

Peaches,

Kevin and I both the Herman Miller Aeron chairs with the lumbar support. We just got these new ones in blue, but have used them for years. They are very durable. Retail is about $1200, but you can find usually find good deals on them from eBay.

I had an really crappy chair at the time and even after 3 weeks, I still wasn't impressed with it. :( I have white trash taste. :P

Edited to add that the chair I was using BEFORE the HM was crappy, the HM was NOT crappy, just not worth the $$$. Having a very padded ass comes in handy :awinky:

I think that is what squished my old chair down to where it is flat.

I also tried just about every chair in Office Depot. Found one that I liked, bought two of them, and I've been using them for four years. Got one here at the office and one at home, so you know they get a lot of use...

I just flipped it over and it says Jorng Well Industrial, Inc.

Hope that helps...

That got me curious, so I tipped mine over (not as easy as you'd think on a hardwood floor when it has wheels...) and it's a HON. That's kinda sweet. :P

No problem Dave...

I am also an expert at putting these chairs together. Desks too... :)

A word of advice: if you ever have to assemble a dozen of these chairs at one time, cut the allen wrench with a hacksaw and use it as a drill bit. :okthumb:

It's all about the Aeron. I'm in this thing 12-16 hours per day and i couldnt do anythign without it. I even take my naps in it.

i like the mesh because sitting sometimes for upwards of 5 hours straight on those chairs with the pads, i would get up and it gets hot and ass stinky down there and that sucks. With the Aeron NO ASS STINK. thats a plus.

the relax the back store chairs are just awsome, if you are looking that way, of course then you get the ass stink problem again.

I think they are going to incorporate this slogan into their new marketing material!!

It's funny.... But very true!!

I sold my Aeron chair when I moved to CA so when came back I needed a new chair and you cant buy Aerons locally. I bought this chair at Office Depot on sale for 50 bucks because it had a tan suede seat...

http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=...78441_SK_307175 (http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=307175&location_info=SG_2_CT_803_SC_803011_FM_178441_SK_3 07175)

it is SOOOOOOOO comfy and everyone who sits in it loves it. I mean 50 bucks, come on ;)

I'm not saying that the good chairs aren't worth it ... far from it. They just didn't do anything for me, at least, not for long enough to justify the expense.

Maybe I just haven't take the time to get one in exactly my size and get it adjusted properly, but the Herman Miller chairs aren't that comfortable to me. I prefer some padding. And my ass is kinda fond of the feel of leather... (And no gonzo, not in that way, so do NOT call Ms. Whips).

Like others, I go to Office Depot or Office Max and sit in everything they have til I find the one that feels right. I dont see my exact chair in the current catalog, but I'm tall so it has a very high back and well padded.

Only downside to Office Depot chairs is occasionally they'll come in a box about the size of a shoebox that says "some assembly required" on the side of it. Ugh!

And also, to be honest, I spend ALOT of time with my ass parked at home in the living area instead of the home office with my feet kicked up in the recliner and notebook with a wireless connection.
