Funny Stray Cats story - My first date with my Ex-husband was to see the Rolling Stones in 1981 (I think..) at the Fox. We were both working at a bar and the tickets went on sale at around 2AM. The joke was that hookers, pimps and bar employees were the ones who bought all the tickets since we the only ones up at that hour. :awinky:

Anyhoo - the Stray Cats opened and of course, since everyone wanted to see the Stones, they were booed throughout almost every song and it got progressively worse with each song they sang. We didn't think they'd ever make it in the biz. :yowsa:

The Cat Club is really small... so if they did it would have probably been a mostly private engagement.

Sometimes I read the club listings just to see the funny band names. I've also seen The Hun playing, kind of funny...

Interesting story , Peaches.

I think the bigger bands purposely have the sound messed with on the beginning bands. The lastest FHM has an article about Steven Tyler and he hints to that fact.

I have seen Brian Setzer in concert several times a few years ago .It is excellent music and one of my favorites to see. ( woo hoo next month )

I remember seeing Aerosmith the year that Collective Soul came out and they had the sound rigged so bad for Collective Soul that you really could tell they were really fucking with them. I even made a comment to the hub that they were fucking with it for ego reasons . A year later I heard Collective Soul in a bar and their sound was like their albums.

We've actually seen the Terry Reid thing, at another club out here though...

They do a lot of 60's songs.

http://www.terryreid.net/

He's like the guy who introduced Plant to Page, or something like that. The original singer of Zepplin, I forget what exactly... But the funniest part is when you meet him he's a TOTAL FLAMER...

Can you imagine Zepplin with a gay frontman? hehehe it wouldn't be the same. He does a good Donovan cover though, if you care for that sort of thing.

The night we saw them Tom Petty's guitarist dropped by. Just a bunch of old rock guys, very talented and just love to play shows. A lot of strange people come out to see them play, its kind of cool.

But tonight we are doing punk rock at one of my favorite spots. Should be cool.

from Terry's site:

However, 1968 was the year fate dealt Reid his first hard kick in the teeth...although he certainly didn't view it as such at the time. It's a story which by now, I guess, more or less everyone has heard: Jimmy Page - with whom Reid had toured a year or so earlier - was in the process of putting a new band together in somewhat of a hurry, in order to fulfill The Yardbirds' contractual obligations. He'd already identified John Paul Jones as his bassist, and pencilled in B.J. Wilson as the drummer. So, he approached Reid and offered him the vocalist's spot (one wonders what Led Zeppelin would have sounded like with two guitars onstage) only to be rebuffed; in addition to his commitments to Most, Reid had a couple of US tours lined up, and was confidently expecting to make it as a solo performer. However, that same night Reid did a gig in Buxton on which he was supported by the Band of Joy (N.B.--some sources cite the band that night as Hobbestweeedle, not the Band of Joy ); he took one look at/listen to Robert Plant and Bill Bonham and got straight on the phone to Jimmy Page - and the rest, like they say, is history....

Man, I envy you living near the music scene.

The only thing to come out of Sacramento was Telsa ,Cake and Deft- tones.

Yeah but its almost impossible to go to all the shows you want to see.

I gave up on the fast living thing a while back, too much trouble and way too many fake ass people in hollywood. Too many groupie whores.

No, Slim Jim Phantom owns it, and the other stray cats go nowhere near it.

The bar is the size of a garage if that.

My friends play there.

The stage is maybe 10 x 10, and theres a small bar and sofas to sit on, its very intimate and dark.

The singers actually arent even on stage when signing, only the drummer and the guitarist and bass, if they want to, for the most part its just a small bar with a small stage.

Awesome though.

Rock and fucking roll.

good luck, most bands like that have no money... maybe they need the publicity though...

I was at a small club in Syracuse watching the opening band for Type O Negative... was so busy jamming and watching the crowd that it startled me when the wall next to me moved...
It was the lead singer of Type O, he'd been standing there the whole song. Super nice guy, and my god is he huge.

Ya know, it's a good damned thing neither of us has an Elph or some other camera that is small enough to have in a shirt pocket at all times.

My phone has a camera, but it makes a logitech quickcam look like a fucking Nikon D1....stands no chance in low light.
