a gentile usually refers to a protestant christian although it can sometimes mean all christains.. but it most definitely means somebody who is NOT a jew.

The first time I'd ever heard that word really used by someone, it was this cute little Jewish lady in my grandma's retirement park that would walk around the complex looking at the Christmas lights shaking her head saying, "Oh my... there are more Gentiles than Jews here now... there goes the neighborhood!" lol
She later admitted that she loved all the holiday lights (that's why she used to walk around and look at them - lol) and said she thought that was the best thing that the Gentiles brought to December - and that it almost made up for the Santas in the stores and the long lines during the holidays. :awinky:

Okay I'm a gentile and when I visited a Jewish friend in the USA a few years ago (New York) I went out with him because he wanted to buy kosher take out. While walking to the kosher store I stopped and bought a hodog because I was starving. Jeff walks into the kosher store and I follow ignorant of the hell that was going to break loose. The owner of the store nearly jumped over the counter he was so mad and I stood their looking at him and Jeff with half this hotdog in my mouth wondering wtf?
No one told me that a hotdog is pork! Man I got the fright of my life that night and I will never forget it :P
