There's a lot of webmasters we know out there, too. I just hope they all stay safe. Houses can be rebuilt.

my thoughts are with everyone out there...my mother in law had her place burned out a few years ago and I was the one that went in and sorted through her stuff for the insurance evaluation. Fires are not fun.

Some of those pictures were very striking. I can't imagine what it would be like to see a wall of flame coming for your house, and then watching it burn. What a helpless feeling. I hope they get this thing under control soon!

The latest rumor is that terrorists are starting the fires. :rokk:

I'm listening to an expert on planes and fires talking about how old the present planes are that are dropping water in the fire zones. He said that the government should build new planes which can handle the fires in a more efficient manner. The planes now being used have been converted from many old types of planes.

They were talking about that on the news and showed a house that had sprinklers around the house and with no brush near the house. That house was saved but a house across the way was burning since they had a bunch of wood pallets near the house.

Fortunately the area we're in seems to be pretty safe - but my mother-in-law was evacuated from her condo yesterday down in San Diego, and my brother-in-law and his family are also near that area - so I'm hoping all is going to be OK for all of them. It's scary how fast these fires can spread - one interview said that the flames flew through one area in Simi Valley, burning the whole hillside in about 15 minutes.

Sure makes you think about things... I mean, if you had 5 minutes to pack up and go - what would you bring?

We can smell the smoke out here in the desert, but fortunately no fires so far... I hope that terrorist bullshit is just bullshit - this IS fire season in Socal, so hopefully that's all it is. It's been a very dry year. The hunter in San Diego county and the 20-year olds up in San Berdu is about all I've heard in the way of arson accusations... I sure hope that the rest are just a result of "fire season" and were not intentionally set.

Why is it that everything in the news now has to be run through the terrorist filter now? Shit still happens without terrorists. Is that just to keep the fear level up or what?

I think so.

We're all feeling so vulnerable now... that part of the plan worked out well for the terrorists at least. I can't sit through an entire newcast of my local news anymore... everything it seems is suspected of terrorist ties, terrorist motives, blah blah blah.

Shit - people can't have the flu anymore without terrorist implications..
