let's say I invented a new air filter and FORD put it in every car in violation of my patent.

What are my chances of winning suing every taxi, commercial freigh liner, etc who are using Ford cars in business?

I thought webmasters use Wndow Media/Real Networks products, don't they?

I am confused.....

If you can remember back to the guy that invented intermittent wipers???
He is now living a nice, comfortable life.
So, in short, I would say, ask your wife.

No confusion necessary - Acacia doesn't have the money to take on Microsoft's lawyers. It's just simple math.

Besides, Microsoft would weigh out the costs of litigation versus the cost of buying the company or a controlling share of stock and do whatever was cheaper... trying to take on Microsoft might very well mean they'd all lose their jobs and be out on their asses, flat broke and crying over the money they could've made if they'd only stuck with the "low hanging fruit".

Wrong Carrie! LPPI took on PayPal and won.

Acacia is taking on the porn world because there are so many whimps and flakes in porn who will shit their pants rather than go to court and fight Acacia. It isn't just a money matter with porn people. The majority are know-nothing bums who don't have the knowledge or the backbone to take a stand against Acacia.

You were served papers, Miss Carrie. What do you plan to do?

Why am I wrong? I was talking about Acacia. They have a strict budget set for litigation; $1M would last them about a month fighting Microsoft, if that long.

I plan to write them back and ask them exactly what domains and exact URLs I am supposedly infringing on their patent with. Then we'll see where it goes from there. Some folks got letters with domains on them, my letter didn't have any listed.

Whatever happens, I'm not signing; if that's what you're asking.

I have gotten a few, with the domain name on the envelope, none in the letter itself. and I would not recommend writing back unless you want to confirm to them that they have the correct address.

baddog - 2 things
If Acacia is trying to contact you it is possible you will need to contact them at some point and the second - before you do that, contact your attorney

ignoring the problem won't make it go away

Carrie

Btw my contact info didn't come from Matrix, unless Acacia is stripping hyphens in addresses.
I just this second noticed that on the envelope they have part of my company name with two 1's instead of two l's (number one versus lower-case L). Weird.

Carrie, the point I was making is that LPPI is small in comparison to PayPal, yet they fought and won.

I would like to see a little guy fight Acacia and win. We read about the big companies receiving the Acacia packages, and many have settled. I wonder how many smaller webmasters are fighting Acacia and they are not coming to the boards and talking about it.

Baddog, that wasn't very nice! I didn't see you complaining when I defended you on Setgo. I didn't see you complaining when I have talked about the quality of your pictures. I didn't see you complaining when I started a happy birthday thread for you. I made one tiny swipe at you for posting non-stop bullshit on GFY so you could win a little prize. Are you still holding that against me? I thought you had big shoulders! :(

I think Microsoft is a *bit* more prepared to buy someone out at any cost than PayPal, but I get your point. :awinky:

I'd like to see a little guy fight Acacia and win, too. It just might happen; this latest mailing they've done was massive and they ended up threatening a lot of small people who don't even *have* video on their sites. Some who don't have sites at all.

They're doing a desperate blanket mailing hoping to snag something in their net. They haven't done their research at all on the list they acquired (however they acquired it). It just might come back to bite them on the ass.

Carrie I like your thinking.

Don't you think it would be easier for Microsoft to through a bit of support to the current case at hand instead of buying a company that is going down the tubes? I would think that Microsoft has the prior art (well documented I'm sure) and quite a large staff that could be of help to anyone with a pending case with Acacia. Microsoft sees Acacia coming and they are being proactive?

Not just Microsoft by the way. Other big corporations are being proactive here, you can bet on it!
