My goodie bag got a present the other day with this url
www.womeninadult.com and a note to check it out.

So I surfed out to find ...for lack of a better term...a special interest group
specifically created for the women in the adult industry. I suppose that
this is a "professional" group as opossed to the actual women working in the industry.

In a time when this industry needs to be pulling together I guess I dont understand the need for a seperate....but equal group.

Maybe I can get Holly to come over and explain?

How many women in this biz have a net worth in the Millions compared to the men in this biz?

I agree with Mike ...the women that come here are pretty determined and also outspoken. Ive gone on record saying that I respect several of them...even the one that remains pissed off at me.

I know that Holly finds the thread "CUTE" ...so I guess if she dont want to comment we can have our own discussion?

I dont know....I just recall her hitting me on ICQ a month back wanting to know if she could be of any assistance and help with some business aspects...so I figured Id help her out and give her a platform to draw some of the fine women that frequent Oprano into a disucssion about her new group.

Call is cross pollination....looked like she might be interested in expanding past her sister and mom.

Well, I don't see anything wrong with it.............. live and let live! Must we put everything under a microscope? Are we that bored? I think you are trying to read more into it than is there.

Ya Know, the conventions are full of male bonding - so, what is wrong with some female bonding? There are many segments in the Industry who have much in common - IE: people who work in amateur, people who are involved with fetish, etc. - so why can't women get together without all the eyebrows raising? It is all about like minded groups doing biz! Nothing new there.......

I agree with this. Segregation, even willingly only hurts those who want to be seperate....

If you can swim in the ocean with the big fish, why go back to small pond?
If you can play in the big leagues, why go back to minors?

95% of the contact you have with people in this business is genderless anyway. Its a nick on a board or on an ICQ message. There's no need to have anything specifically for men or women. Everyone is based on their merits anyways (like on a board) so having fractured groups doesnt make any sence.

Sharpie, I am excited about your show in SD. I think its a good location, and a good time. How is the facilities?

I think it may be time to support indepedant shows.... AVN in my opinion is only concerned with gouging the industry, and promoting the old line video/magazine giants to the detriment of the rest of the internet young turks.

I never viewed the group as segregation....

just another group of like minded people doing biz

Now, I understand that because this is a more formal orginazation, instead of an informal one - that you might consider it segregation..... but,

you have to understand how women think...... overall, women in biz are organized. That is one of the reasons that they are essential to the biz (besides being content, which many of us are not) So, if they are going to bond and do biz - it is their nature to do it in an organized manner...... big deal!

I wouldn't give up on Holly yet...... it is early.

Hell it's past time to support 'em.
Internext needs real competition - with changes focused on the webmaster rather than AVN's pockets.

Don't mean to get off on a tangent.

There's only one board in the business that I can think of where being female is a detriment, but that one is only for shits and giggles anyway.

Geeesh..... screw you :-) I used that phrase before Kaiser was born.

But, out of board courtesy, I will refrain from using it..... (maybe)

The accomodations at the Hyatt in San Diego are average. Not as nice as those at the Westin in Hollywood - but, a big step up from Secacaus ... hahahahaha None of the newer hotels on the water would have us, or regular rooms started at over $200 at that time of the year. The hotel is in a PRIME location and has been refurbished. They are in the process of installing high speed internet this month, in many of the rooms and wireless in the convention space.

There will be many opportunities to be involved in prime marketing at the show, for as low as $1,500. We have tried to make it affordable for even the small companies.

Sharpie, I think Oprano and PureCash want to help you in making this show a great success. We have had our differences, but its time we pull together. The external threats we face are much more important then our trivial bickering.

Think of some ideas on what we can do to help, and lets get together next week and figure something out.

I agree... the only thing I've ever seen come out of any of these "women's only" type meetings/gatherings is a male bashing session - and THAT helps NO ONE.

Women in this industry fare better than women in other industries, possibly because of that "genderless" opportunity we have to prove ourselves online and build our reputations before we meet people in person. Of course there are always going to be chauvanists (on both sides of the fence... we women can be "catty" - lol), but as a whole I think we're very well off in this biz.

It's all about reputation and respect. Two things that you have to EARN on your own before you can expect them - respect is not a "right." The only women I've known in this industry that had bad reputations or didn't earn the respect of their peers, got that way because of their own actions or behaviors. Just like the men. We all know certain males in this industry whom we don't respect. It's a two-way street... it works for both genders.

Nothing against WIA or any other off-shoot board/gathering/group directly, but in general - I'm really getting sick of how separate we've all become. Our community has become segregated into so many different boards, so many different micro-communities - it's really become a pain in the ass to stay in touch with people and keep people informed about important issues & industry topics. IMHO we used to be much more "on the same page" about these things back when there were only a small handful of boards. Today - it's gotten WAY out of hand. To further segregate the industry in ANY way IMO is a big mistake.

Que Tom Jones .....

Well she's all you'd ever want
She's the kind they'd like to flaunt and take to dinner
Well she always knows her place
She's got style, she's got grace, she's a winner.

She's a Lady. Whoa whoa whoa, she's a Lady
Talkin' about that little Lady

Well she's never in the way
Something always nice to say, Oh what a blessing.
I can leave her on her own
Knowing she's okay alone, and there's no messing.

Well she never asks for very much and I don't refuse her
Always treat her with respect, I never would abuse her.
What she's got is hard to find, and I don't want to lose her.
Help me build a mansion from my little pile of clay. Hey, hey, hey

Well she knows what I'm about,
She can take what I dish out, and that's not easy.
Well she knows me through and through,
She knows just what to do, and how to please me.

Well, I have put in my two cents..... and I have to go do yard work.

I am not a member & probably won't be. I am not much of a joiner - but I did go to one meeting. After that meeting, I was able to have good conversations with 3 different gals that I had never had the opportunity to set down with before. They were all prominent in their organizations, and I thorughly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know them better. I hope they enjoyed getting to know me better, and what I am about. It' was 'all about biz....

Carrie
10-23-2003, 02:01 PM
I see good things in both - having a place for just the girls and having our normal coed hangouts. The problem is, when any women *do* try to get together for some conversation that doesn't consist of flirting and dares to show your tits, the men always try to barge in.

From what I understand, there was an attempt to have a women-only seminar in Pheonix and it was overrun by an annoying gay man who insisted he be admitted.

Gay != Female.

But let's face it - if the guys got together and made a male-only club, *most* of the women would fly off of the handle. Just look at the male-only golf club in Georgia. There are plenty of women-only golf clubs around, but women just *had* to go sticking their noses into that one. Why?? It's hypocritical bullshit. ("We can have women-only clubs but you CANNOT have men-only clubs... it's sexist!!")

I do have to question the women that would attend these WIA events but not others. It surprises me that Sharpie met some women there that she hadn't met before. Given Sharpie's ability to be damn near everywhere that anyone would be hanging out, it makes me wonder if these women don't normally attend the coed gatherings.
And if that's the case, then perhaps they're not cut out for this industry. You can't go around expecting everyone to make exceptions for you just because you've got indoor plumbing, nor try to run a successful business while avoiding those with outdoor plumbing.

(I am getting too dependent on this edit button.)

I dont see the point in segregation either. I will not be joining the group and it wont hurt my business. If those gals find some sort of strength in being together and being so formal, all the better for them.

I never did get along with the cliques female OR male. I dislike any group that would systemically tell me who I should be doing business with or associating with. I dont need a leader thanks

Reminds me of the feminist groups that came along at a time when women needed leaders to speak for them. The danger is feminists started to tell women who they are and what they will do or say. Fuck that. I am me.

He died laughing, it was Boy George!

In Miami many, many moons ago we had a really great "Ladies' Luncheon". We got our food and drink, sat down like adult women, went around the room introducing ourselves, telling a bit ourselves, and then had a talks about what was going on in biz, where we thought it was headed, etc. I met most of the women I still know in this biz that day and it would be wonderful it could be duplicated. :)

However, an ongoing dues required "club" just doesn't seem needed in any way, shape or form, IMHO.

Peaches -

I know just the luncheon you're talking about. I was supposed to attend (that was my first ia2000 ever) but *somebody* stuck me in a booth that day.

I'd heard that it was fantastic and I've kicked myself for years for not insisting on attending. From what I was told it was very low-key and an excellent environment for meeting other women in the biz. I wonder how they feel about women who work as "content" joining...

Reading between the lines of their mission statement, it certainly seems they would consider that beneath them.

I find that interesting because the majority of the women who have made good money in adult are both content and business. Holly's accomplishments look pale alongside Danni, Jenna or even Asia.

The ladies certainly do not HAVE to get naked to be a success in this industry, but I find it interesting that an organization like this would appear to look down their noses at their sisters who do make money teasing us poor dumb bastards with their wares....

There was "content" (those who had their own sites) at the ladies' luncheon in Miami. :) I learned more from them about that side of the business than I had learned before or since. :okthumb:

I have to admit, I don't rightly know. :( I'd heard there were dues to "join" and I'd hoped someone from there would come here and explain the site. Maybe tomorrow we can get some info. :)

Are you going to get a wig and some makeup so you can join? :awinky:

I dunno...

This entire thread just makes me laugh...

I have lost count of how many times I have been insulted or have read posts where other "content" girls are insulted on sooo many webmaster boards (and yes even a few times on this board too).

I do love you guys... just wish you could be a little more consistent on who you flame sometimes.

I have done ok. I have made money showing my pussy. I have made money not showing my pussy. And no I dont have a net worth in the Millions and I have only been in biz less than 4 years.

LOL, ok I think I've said enough I'll save the rest for a good rant on my "chick board" next time I have PMS...

Hell Sabby...I actually read the thread kinda of taking up for content girls and poo pooing the pompous "business" women with attitude.
Doesnt matter...Holly isnt going to come over there to comment anyhow. Shes going to rely on her high and mighty attitude and her consulting name to get many women to join the action.

Ive said it before and Ill say iot again...how can you consult to webmasters on how to make money when you dont have one adult site? Fucking porn royalty attitude.

FWIW I voted fo your gals in the poll.

OMG... I can't believe I'm going to say this but.... Gonzo is right! :awinky:

At least that's my POV on this whole thing... I just don't understand how it can be all about the "support of the sisters" kind of deal, and then cut out the most essential group of women that makes this industry go 'round.

I've been very impressed by many of the so-called "content girls" in this industry through interviews I've done for the magazine and just from simple introductions at shows. My interview with Jenna Jameson a few years ago totally changed my opinion on that... and then I did a series of interviews with some cam girls/amateurs - and WOW, talk about knowing the biz inside and out - these women are really intelligent & handle all aspects of running/managing their businesses... and meeting Aria @ the Klixxx booth and chatting in the limo on the way to our party during Internext... she's really a very sharp girl who knows where she's going and what she wants to do in her career.

IMHO any woman in this biz who dismisses the women who work in the content end of things is missing out on a very important demographic of our industry. I'd like to know what they think they'd be marketing or selling if these women just simply went away???

Peaches I agree and disagree.
There are some content babes who know the business inside and out but there are a bunch who don't. Same with the webmasters :awinky:

For example, I wouldn't expect any good ideas from most of PhotoGregg's models. They're just in this to model and have fun. But Shauna would most likely be able to give you an earful and some good ideas.

The amateur ladies in this biz know a bunch of tricks that many of the big-time sponsors would benefit from - like how to keep a member!! They still do old-fashioned hard link trades, they don't ignore certain traffic sources like toplists or pic posts simply because some industry guru thinks they're "old school" and "don't have enough traffic".

I was able to talk to Aria for a little while too as we were both checking out of the Westin, she's really a sweetheart and not at all struck on herself. I'd love to have a long conversation with her over dinner or something.

If Holly's group *does* disclude amateur and pro content girls, they're cutting their own throats. Besides being the *reason* for the industry, there are some girls like Jenna and even Sabby who could school anyone on certain aspects of the industry.

Janey and Ros lunch was the first ever event I actually went to, and it was absolutely fantastic.

I've been to several of the WIA meetings and while there are lots of things that I do and like to do with a variety of people in this business, I dont think that getting together as a group is wrong for the women in the business, provided they give the rest of the industry a clear understanding of what their purpose is and how they are going about it.

This industry is already fragmented, perhaps its time for those with a long term strategy to start thinking about alignments and so on for the next round.

To say that what Holly is attempting to do is wrong given the amount of work she does on it is just wrong.

I'm kind of in an uncommon position sometimes I think, who knows, I was a little amazed today when out of 40 golfers there was only one other 'chick' playing. But hey, she ended up on my team and we came in second, due in part to my girl dropping 35 footers in the clutch.

I don't play that guys against the girls stuff in the business tho, it just doesn't work that way and only screws things up all the way around. You work with the people you find a good fit with and the rest of them you wish them well and go on about your business.

IMHO, those that aren't on the business end (be it webmasters, content, consultant, etc.) wouldn't join in on the boards/meetings/luncheons.

I don't see a need to create a "women's only" sector, but it would be fun to have another ladies luncheon in Vegas. We managed to talk about important and non-important things quite well on our own in Miami, so I don't see a need to have a "seminar" per se and we don't even need sponsors - kicking in $25-50 each would be cool with me just to sit down for a few hours and "discuss amongst ourselves". :)

Girls who are in front of the camera to make part or all of their living being photographic content for a site (your own or someone else's).
You would be considered a "content girl".
