Unrepentant Mahathir Says Jews Control the World
Tue Oct 21,10:10 AM ET
By Ed Cropley

BANGKOK (Reuters) - An unrepentant Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad repeated Tuesday his belief that Jews rule the world, denied President Bush (news - web sites) had rebuked him for it and hit out at Australian leader John Howard.

Mahathir, who steps down at the end of the month after 22 years in power, told the Bangkok Post in an interview that widespread criticism of his recent remark that "Jews rule the world by proxy" proved he was right.

"The reaction of the world shows that they control the world," he told the newspaper.

"Israel is a small country. There are not so many Jews in the world. But they are so arrogant, they defy the whole world. Even if the United Nations (news - web sites) says no, they go ahead. Why? Because they have the backing of all these people," Mahathir said.

Bush called the initial comments -- which the outspoken leader of largely Muslim Malaysia said were taken out of context -- "wrong and divisive," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.

..............................................

But Mahathir said reports Bush had rebuked him were wrong.

"Certainly, he did not rebuke me," Mahathir told a news conference after the two-day summit ended. "All he said was that 'I regret today to have to use strong words against you'," Mahathir said.

"After that we were walking practically hand-in-hand."

............................

In the Bangkok Post interview, Mahathir complained that reports of his remarks on Jews last week to an Islamic summit in Malaysia, which the United States, the European Union (news - web sites), Australia and others denounced as anti-Semitic, "just picked up one sentence in my speech."

...........................

Asked why he thought this was the case, Mahathir replied: "Well, many newspapers are owned by Jews. They only see that angle and they have a powerful influence over the thinking of many people. Only their side of the picture is given now."

God put Bush in charge, says the general hunting bin Laden
By David Rennie
(Filed: 17/10/2003)

The general leading the hunt for Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein has publicly declared that the Christian God is "bigger" than Allah, who is a false "idol", and believes the war on terrorism is a fight with Satan, it emerged yesterday.

.............

Gen Boykin has repeatedly told Christian groups and prayer meetings that President George W Bush was chosen by God to lead the global fight against Satan.

He told one gathering: "Why is this man in the White House? The majority of Americans did not vote for him. He's in the White House because God put him there for a time such as this."

In January, he told Baptists in Florida about a victory over a Muslim warlord in Somalia, who had boasted that Allah would protect him from American capture. "I knew my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real god and his was an idol," Gen Boykin said.

He also emerged from the conflict with a photograph of the Somalian capital Mogadishu bearing a strange dark mark. He has said this showed "the principalities of darkness. . . a demonic presence in that city that God revealed to me as the enemy".

On the Middle East, Gen Boykin told an Oregon church in June that America could not ignore its Judaeo-Christian roots. "Our religion came from Judaism and therefore [Islamic] radicals will hate us forever."

In the same month, Gen Boykin told an Oklahoma congregation that Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein were not the enemy.

"Our enemy is a spiritual enemy because we are a nation of believers. . . His name is Satan."

.................................................. .

Few outside the Pentagon noticed when Gen Boykin, a 13-year member of Delta Force, the top-secret commando unit modelled on the SAS, was promoted this summer, with responsibility for speeding the flow of top-secret intelligence to commandos hunting bin Laden and other high-value targets.

At a routine press conference yesterday, Donald Rumsfeld, the normally confident defence secretary, appeared wrong-footed by the controversy. He hailed the general's "outstanding record" and said his comments were made "in his private capacity".

...................................

Gen Boykin told NBC that he would be curtailing his speeches to religious groups. "I don't want to come across as a Right-wing radical," he said.

i'm wondering if anybody has bothered to read the actual text of the Mahathir speech rather than just the headlines?
Mahathir Speech Text (http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/10/20/1066502121884.html)
after reading it please point out why it was offensive. i must have missed that part.

I have not read it..... What he said isn't my point (if I ever have one)

I find it very interesting that Bush was quick to chastise him for his remarks as being divisive while there is an under-secretary going around saying worse and Bush & company have barely batted an eye....

Rumsfeld was quoted, when asked about Boykin, to the effect of "It's his private views and he has a right to them"... Which is true, except when the guy is making the remarks while dressed in an Army uniform...

Finally, today, the senate decided to take some action on it:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...religious_views (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20031022/ap_on_go_co/general_religious_views)

"WASHINGTON - The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee (news - web sites) called on Tuesday for the temporary reassignment of a Pentagon (news - web sites) official who made church speeches casting the war on terrorism in religious terms."

I cannot fathom why Bush and company did not immediately shut Boykin's mouth down.. It makes you wonder about the political savvy of the current administration, or at least it makes me wonder....

Ok, I went and read it....

I found very little of it actually offensive...

There is the one line in there "Jews rule the world by proxy" which harkens to the various conspiracy theory type nuts...

But all in all, I would agree with most of wht he said...

He calls upon the moslem world to stop following the "fundamentalists", realizse what they actually have under their control and to use it....

Very good advice all in all...

that was the point i was trying to make, that Mahathir actually condemns the senseless violence that shuts down more respectable avenues of change.

as far as the "Jews rule the world by proxy", well, you can decide for yourself.

i have noticed that even the slightest criticism of jews or israel prompts a shitstorm of accusations of "anti-semitism", whether it is warranted or not.

why is everyone so quick to jump to protect the jews, especially if they aren't jewish themselves?

of course, now that makes me anti-semitic because i dared mention that :P
