At one point (most likely once I start making money in the AF), I will need to buy a new monitor. I have a big bulky curved screen right now (Dell E770s), but I want to get a flat screen monitor. I'd just like to know what other people like. :D

Note - my monitor is older and more bulky than his and I work on it 12+ hours a day and I'm doing JUST FINE. :P

Here's one that girlgeek recommended (http://www.9xmedia.com/pages-Build_a_system/X-Top_Design_a_system-Configurations.html)

you can get a Dell ultrasharp 18 inch flat panel monitor for about 450, it has the same viewable screen size as my old 19 inch bulky monitor.

maybe you first need to get out of the basement than consider a new monitor :)

I'll be using it at my dormitory in the Air Force. Plus I need to start getting things for when I do have my own place, I've already got some furniture and dishes. Now all I need is a place to live, cups, and silverware.

Clemson,

WTG and a big congrats on joining the air force!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I joined the Army, loved it, grew up, learned what team work is, etc. but if I could do it again, it would have been the air force. At least I would of learned a skill :))

Hats of too you

I agree 100% with that.

I bought a flat screen because of the space savings (my old 21" monitor covered my entire desk, there was no room left for me! :-) and I love it. I will never spend a penny on a "normal" CRT monitor anymore.

I have read, though, that not all TFT monitors may be perfect for gamers. So if you intend to use it for that, you may want to look into that further. Apart from that, there is no downside to these monitors except for maybe the price. (Just ask one for your birthday from your mom! :rokk: )

That is true about gaming, because CRTs have higher refresh rates than LCDs. This would also apply to any advanced video editing, because you sometimes get ghosting with LCDs during playback, and the picture may be blurry when set outside of its desired resolution. You get multisynch capabilities with CRTs, which allows the electron gun inside the tube to adjust itself to varying resolutions and refresh rates. The color is always going to be better on a CRT, and they are cheaper.

However, if you're just doing average computing like most normal people, I would go with the LCD. It saves space, is easier on the eyes, is more energy efficient, and there are some great deals to be had out there. Get the biggest one you can afford.

:D
