Verified by Visa... A PIN is attached to your Visa Card, to be used in merchants, and hopefully soon on the Internet.

It's available now in Canada. I wonder how long in the US?!

Has anyone heard of this?

vbv is awesome. once enough banks actually use it and consumers actually have/know about/remember a pin number.... no more chargebacks. ever.

I'm with you on that Hooper. Chargebacks go down the drain. Though you would still have problems with the recurring model and idiots who forget their subscription.

Ah I can see those WhitCon think tank sessions now ...

Nick: "Al'ight, what can we do new to make some more money?"
Ant: "I know!" Purposely farts.
Five minutes of laughter.
Nick: "Ah, a good one, that. But seriously now, who has an idea for a new project?"
Pause.
Nick: "Wait, I know what we can do!" Purposely farts.
Ten minutes of laughter ...

You are just jealous Harry.

You couldn't join in the farting.

Because from your usual think tank position ,

lying behind your Mum's sofa,

because you were afraid your mum would wake up and you wouldn't be allowed any computer time.

ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

anthony,

He knows nothing to leak. He's been gone 5 mths and think tanks went out of favour.

Ant, if your wit gets any sharper, it might become a balling bowl.

Nick, the Mom joke, how classicly droll of you, but quite expected.

Battles of wit with people who can't even spell the word. <_<
I need some one at least close to my league here. This thread is dying of boredom.

This has been in use in shops etc in many european countries for a long time now (france, norway etc). You put your card (one with a smartcard chip) into the machine and type your PIN number in.

It's designed to stop "skimming", where the person at the checkout swipes your card through a little box that copies the magnetic stripe info into memory so you can make an exact clone of the card.

I't will be interesting when someone modifies the terminals to copy the card and record the PIN :) As far as i know it's the same PIN you use at ATMs to get cash out. Maybe it isn't though.. highly stupid if it is.
