Serge - you missed the best tax there has been to date.

The counting tax applied by Serges cash :D

That is the Liberal mindset - Tax the people into prosperity, just can't seem to understand the more they take from people the less the people have.

Of course without collecting all that there would not be anything to give to the poor unfortunate people that don't work.

You know like Congress, The Senate, etc, etc, etc.

Serge - maybe you'd be happy someplace where there aren't any Democrats.

Seems to me that the net result of all those taxes is a fair place to live. If you are feeling so oppresed and abused, go someplace more to your liking.

Jim, maybe you and Serge can both go find someplace more to your liking. Obviously, the United States of America doesn't meet your standards.

After our humilating defeat in the 2nd World War and the Cold War, and with millions of people streaming for the exits, I can certainly understand that. Obviously, there is absolutely no opportunity for a businessman to make any money in a pathetic third world socialst dictatorship like this.

Maybe you could go someplace and pick turnips.

I don't particularly care for Senator Kennedy - some of the reasons include things you've allueded to.

But stop with the fucking anti-American, will you? You right-wing Morones throw that around like you would blonde hair or blue suit. It's almost as meaningless (in reality, at least) as the way the term socialist is being tossed around in this thread.

Whether you like it or not, Senator Kennedy represents the views of a substantial number of real live genuine Americans who are every bit as patriotic as you are.

The simple fact of the matter is that, in spite of all the hyperbole that the parrots of the right spew, the real haters today are on the right. All they seem to hate is America as it is today.

Sorry, Pd, but my feeling is that people who knock this country are Anti-American. It's that simple. I'm simply patriotic. I don't believe that anyone can embrace this country's enemies while calling the majority of this country (including the President and more than half the Congress) things like 'liar' and still be accepted as patriotic. If that idea offends you/them; well, then I guess I hit a nerve...

BTW, if it's 'Right Wing' to favor the Constitution as and in the spirit in which it was written as opposed to the Marxist interpretation, then I guess I will accept that label (except the 'religious' part...I AM an agnostic) and wear it proudly.

No - I do not tow any party line - I am equally disgusted with both parties.

But that is what we are stuck with since those two parties make the rules.

This country is in desperate need of a certain Tom Clancy novel.
Start off with a clean slate.
And the first thing to do - put in strict terms of office with no re-election for Senators and Representatives. No more of this lifetime Strom Thurman and Ted Kennedy shit. 2 terms, that's it. If it's good enough for the President, it's good enough for everyone else.

Second thing to do - approve line item veto power.

Third thing to do - and this one will get me a good thumping on the head by PD - restrict welfare to 6 months with no opportunity to get back on it for 5 years.

Fourth - Get rid of the IRS and enact a flat tax.

Fifth - Trash the "get elected, get a paycheck for life" rule. Just because someone's a "public servant" for 4 years doesn't mean they should continue to get their $100,000 "public servant" paycheck for the rest of their lives. Trash collectors don't get it, EMS and firemen don't get it... neither should the members of Congress. If they want to preach about how they're just "one of the people" then dammit, make them BE one of the people.

I've got more but hell just running on that platform would get me assassinated before I was halfway through my campaign... :matey:

PD, that's your typical cowardly cop-out when a philosophical issue is raised. By your reasoning, I should leave my wife because she burns the chicken pot pies occasionally....you are a classic case of someone who thinks they are "fair and balanced", but are really just full of shit....

PornoDoggy
10-17-2003, 02:25 PM
Actually, I am not nearly as full of shit now as I was an hour ago - but I'll spare you the details.

I'm not really advocating you leave the country, either. However, since folks on the right have chronically used that same line when people on the left offer complaints about something, I thought a bit of turnabout would be appropriate.

Is it "fair" for people who work to pay taxes to support folks who don't? Nope. Since when is life fair? I don't share your view that we need a "politcal revolution", or Carrie's hope for something even more catacalysmic. I think the country is pretty much fine right the way it is. It will be fine if Hillary Clinton is elected to two consecutive terms; it will be fine if Bush wins another election and Ashcroft replaces him. And before any rocket scientist or Morone leaps to any conclusion, I'm not particularly crazy about EITHER alternative.

Am I "fair and balanced"? No more - and no less - than anyone else posting political opinions. I just don't buy into the "gloom and doom" stuff - whether it's coming from the left or the right.

Excellent post Carrie... many good points. :okthumb:

I'm a pretty nice guy, part conservative and part tree hugger, and I don't like to argue politics. Well, last night I got a bit of a shock from a children's book I was reading to Sweet T's little guy who is almost four... I forget the name of the book, but it has won "Abbey" awards since 1995 for being such a wonderful story.

It's a story about a fish. This fish has beautiful, shiny, rainbow colored scales, unlike any of the other fish around. Everyone thinks he is so beautiful, but they don't really talk to him and he doesn't really talk to them. The story alludes to the fact the he's basically showing off and they are jealous...

One day one of the fish goes up to him and asks if he can have one of the pretty scales so that he can be pretty too. The fish says no, and now all the other fish completely ignore him and won't even go near him. He is *oh so lonely* without anyone... Some days later the little fish goes to the pretty fish once again and asks if he can have just one of his scales. He explains that he doesn't want a lot from this fish, just one little scale. So the pretty fish gives him one. All of a sudden, all the fish are crowded around and want just one scale so that they can be pretty too. The rainbow fish eventually gives everybody one scale. Now they are all friends and everybody (including the shiny rainbow scaled fish) has just one very pretty, shiny scale.

And they all lived happily ever after....

I'm sorry, but that made me sick to my stomach.

Took my advice, huh? :biglaugh:

I know you can't be so stupid as to actually believe the BS that the Democommies put out. Surely, you also realize that it is really less a matter of Democrats vs Republicans than it is a matter of Conservative vs Liberal.

Some of what Carrie posted is good; but the most important change that can be made is to make our elected officials accountable to their voters. This involves at least four things:
First, stop voting for people who refuse to address the issues...people who, instead, try to assassinate the character of their opponent.
Second, pass a law making it illegal for politicians running for any office except president to seek funding outside of their own state.
Third, clean out the beaurocrats at the end of each Presidential election (no matter who wins!).
Fourth, force term limits on the Congress. It works well for the office of President...

One other little thing...stop putting the fox in charge of the henhouse by electing lawyers to make laws!

Hey ... Serge thinks I'm being too cranky lately, but I can disprove that right here in this thread.

I actually agree with Torone on something.

Second, pass a law making it illegal for politicians running for any office except president to seek funding outside of their own state.

Of course, the minute that law was passed it would be challenged in Court by Planned Parenthood and the anti-choice folks, the NRA and the Brady bunch, Greenpeace and the oil industry, the AARP and the pharmecutical industry, PETA and the fur industry, the NAACP and the KKK, and gawdamitey only knows who else.
