We had some strong winds Tuesday night which apparently screwed up the DSL. Phone company said "If it's still not OK in 2 days, call us back". Grrrr.

I have basic access - 14.4 dial up. It took me (and I counted) almost FIVE MINUTES to pull up ONE POST here. :( I'm too impatient for that, lol!

So....I'm going to do household things (tried for 2+ hours to install a dimmer switch yesterday.....nope - ain't gonna work....) maybe even vacuum and get rid of some of the leaves :)

If anyone needs to get in touch w/ me, leave me voicemail at 706-273-8770.

Damn I hate not being able to WORK!! :steemed:

So.... you are vacuuming leaves in your house huh?

Hmmmm are we talking a cash crop or something?

;-)))))))))))))))

That post is an invitation to tease Peaches without any chance of retaliation for 2 day btw ;-))))

True, Gonzo. I don't think Peaches would appreciate Confucy calling and trying to get the voicemail to keep her company.

Nah shes not going to call. My guess is she is trying to figure out how to get out of this small claims court apperance!

So sorry to hear about that Peaches. :(

I agree - I'm WAY too impatient for dial-up anymore. I think that means we're spoiled with our new "high speed" connections, but I'd rather say that we've just "evolved" from the old dial-up days. :bdance:

Hope you get back on DSL soon - I'll hold your seat & your drink for you! :awinky:

happens to us a couple times a year when the kids blow up a car in the garages under our building and knock out the adsl. It is always hell because the phone company doesn't really understand that I NEED to be connected to work.

I remember the days of 2400 baud modems, but that's giving away my age. Luckily, I'm told I look way younger than I am. Don't ask. I'm not telling.

It really sucks to be out of commission on your 'puter. On the rare occasion that happens to me, I go completely insane. The ironic thing is that I do end up getting a lot of other things done around the house that have sat for months because I can't pry myself away from the computer.

I hope you're back up and running soon.

*best old lady voice* 2400...you had a 2400!? I started with a 1200...I remember when one of my friends got a 14.4 ..he was the king of the geeks the whole school year.

OK, more memories: I remember when I was going around bragging that I got a 500 MB HD. Oh, but that was just last week.

Actually it was in 1993. Now I have a 240 gig raid, and that's just for all the porn. :groucho:

STILL no DSL :( Phone company closes for the weekend (and at 5 each day) so if it's not fixed by 5 today, it will be Monday at the earliest. And yes, I'm going to demand they give me my $20+ for being out a week, hehehe.

Cute, Nick - sadly, there ARE leaves in my house, hehehe! Between me, the kid and the dogs, we manage to track the damn things in all the time.

OK, I'm off to input 10 months of bank statements, credit card bills, etc. into Quicken. Forced organization, I suppose. :headwall:

Exactly why I have both DSL and Cable. Dial up sucks!

Yeah, cable wasn't available when I moved in but they've put it here now. I think I'll be hooking it up as a back up.

The phone guy came this AM (8:30 AM - woke me up, lol!) and after digging through the wires and dog hair under my desk, replaced the router and it's STILL not working. So I have an emergency call into the old boyfriend who owns the computer store and HOPEFULLY it's just the network card that needs to be replaced.

What's odd is that mine was connecting, but so slow that it timed out. The kid's wasn't connecting at all, so I thought it was my router and his network card. The hub seems to be working fine.

Now it looks like the router, and BOTH network cards. This was all done by a small power surge during the wind. :(

But a house burned to the ground on the mountain last night, so in perspective, my problems are minor. Ironically, we're dedicating the new firestation that's on the mountain today - it wasn't operating yet last night. :(

Peaches, That happens all the time here. We have to have everything in our house hooked to a surge protector/battery backup. I've gone through 2 cable modems and 3 wireless routers due to lightning/power surges.

I've got everything on surge protectors also - except I didn't have the phone line to the router on one (it's on now, hehehe). That's why it's so weird that it would blow out both network cards.

I used to blow out 2-3 modems a year when I was on dial up - I swear they're the most sensitive damn things!

Now *that* truly sucks.
Peaches if all of the computers are having problems, I highly doubt it's everyone's network cards. More likely it's the cable between the router and the modem.
Do you want Hubby to give you a call and annoy you for a little bit having you check all kinds of things? He *knows* DSL.

I may - let me get the old boyfriend out here first and let him see what he can figure out. If it wasn't my router, I'm going to be pissed that I paid $100 to replace it.

Of course, the same company that provides the DSL also provides the cable (small town - one company does everything, hehehe). This may be a ploy to get me on cable. :awinky:

Thanks for offering Hubby up - I'll ping ya if I need to take you up on it! :okthumb:

If you just moved up the road a little it wouldn't be one company doing it all. I guess I'm lucky. The phone company does dsl and we have charter communications for cable.

Hopefully everything will be back to normal for you soon lady. If I can help let me know. :bdance:

Thanks - I'm back up. It was the router than I guess blew during a power surge. Had the tech known about computers, it would have been fixed with the replacement, but I had to have a computer tech friend tell me how to make it WORK, lol! :P

We still need to do lunch!!!! :o
