View Full Version : Asking for personal advice
Being new to dating (again) I have a quandary this weekend
Met a very interesting/intellegent, very attractive woman last weekend at RenFest - she's 35 (usually the women I have dated are 10 or more years younger than me) half-Greek, half-German (has been in the US for 5 years), very sexy accent
We met and hung out at the fair all day last Saturday and then went out to dinner Saturday night (had a very good time) and met again for lunch this Tuesday
As we are both very busy we really haven't spoken to each other except for the two dates
She has a 5 year old daughter and lives about 5 minutes from me (self supporting and from what I can see she has done well)
I've been very upfront and honest about the fact I share a house with my ex-wife and support her and my 2 year old son
I guess something in the back of my mind tells me this woman is too good to be true (she'll even drink scotch on the rocks and smoke cigarillos)
Having sex isn't an issue in this, not really concerned about that at this point.....
I called her last night and left a message asking if she would like to go out for drinks late Saturday night, she returned my message and left a message for me asking if I wanted to get together with her on Saturday afternoon and go to the Fells Point festival and have drinks and lunch (we play cell phone tag)
My problem is I usually go to RenFest on Saturdays (the reason why I suggested late Saturday night was so I could go by myself to RenFest like I do every week) and honestly I flirt with girls and generally have a really good time there
So do I blow off my weekly RenFest fun on Saturday afternoon for another date? (that's what I'm leaning towards now but not sure)

Dear Vick:
Doing business as usual will get you results as usual.....
:))))
Live a little baby.....you can ALWAYS go back by yourself next Saturday.
P/S Please tell Kate I said a BIG hello!
Sounds like you have a decision to make, Vick... will you have more "fun" at the fest by yourself, re-honing your "mac" on the fest-babes, or hanging out with her, getting to know her better and perhaps developing something... If you just wanna play then play, but if you're interested in this babe (she sounds quite hot - them dark-haired women get me every time)...
I'd say sod the fest and hang with the hottie! :matey:
But what with my track record I know fuck all about women, so don't listen to me...
Go on the date ... she sounds cool. Hell one Saturday out of your routine won't hurt you!

Ditto what everyone else said. At the VERY worst, you've missed one day out of your life at RenFest flirting. :)
(I'll sublimably give my standard "rebound" warning.... :awinky: )

Howdy Vick, I'll cast one more vote for go out on the date and hit the Ren Fest next week. Yes, the Ren Fest is always a good time, but it sounds like this gal is worth blowing it off for one week.
Keep up posted. :okthumb:

Hi Vick, I am with everyone on this. If you really like her, skip the Renfest and get to know her more. Might even make her feel special and show her that you really are interested in knowing her more if she realizes you gave up your normal plans to see her. Ahhh, love is in the air! :inlove:
Thanks for all the good advice - after reading it I figured I'd better call quick before she had other plans for tomorrow - call made, message left now waiting for response
sarettah - I'm giving bits and tits a little test for you, you'll see a few hundred visitors over the next 24 hours
Serge - I knew what your answer would be but still wanted to hear it from you :D
LL - thanks, message sent and Kate sends her regards
Edd - always good to hear from you
Peaches - thanks for the warning - I'm not even ready to think about a relationship yet
Gonzo - Benoit has no mic skills, I think he could use you and the fur :yowsa:
voodooman - if I get into a joust will you be my second?
Nick - Colin's right - every (sober) post is a pearl :wnw: funny how that works
Ulfie - with that advice I'll stick to scotch :hic:
MikeAI - I don't think I'm ready to move on anything but fun yet.
Trying to give Emma Grant a little push today, she looks good and so does the site
Brad - it is really tough but it's the best thing for my son right now. What is even tougher is realizing there will come a day he doesn't live with me full time. It's sort of weird but with a lot of respect for each other and putting Sebastian first it's working for now
VooMan - thanks, will do
PD - I'm no upstanding citizen but I'm standing up anyway (at least for now)
Basically I was thinking RenFest tomorrow because as vain as it is to say RenFest is somewhere I do well (so to speak) and at 41 (and starting to look it) you need to take advantage of every opp (and the women at the hair band comeback shows are slim pickings so to speak when looking at the total package)
But on the other hand is this woman more intelligent and hotter than more than 90% of the girls than will be at the fair tomorrow - yeah!
Thanks again
Best to all

Sorry Vick, I must go against the others who are acting as though LOVE RULES! I think you need to play the field. Do your Saturday thing and set up a new date with the 35-year old. She is too old for you, and she has a child. Very bad combination. You are going through your *player* period. SO GO OUT AND PLAY! :bjump:

I was lobbying for stick rights at the Brad Shaw vs. KB fight in vegas.
But Ill settle for managing Benoit. Its ok though...Mark Henry is going to get speared and jackhammered Monday anyhow.
You act as if 41 is a bad thing and 18-21 is an unattainable goal.
Just remember that old age and treachery will serve you well. It has me and youve seen the pic of me in fur. Yet that 18-21 year old trim is like shooting fish in a barrel.
As an aside....dont trust anyone that lies about posting from Kinkos either.

Carrie, here you come again!
I know who Meni is and I know who Vick is. Do you? Fuck, you scored as a man on the Gender Quiz, so what the hell can you say to Vick that he hasn't already heard from the males on Oprano.
Vick, you like younger women. Go back to your Saturday plans and check out the chicks. It is too soon for you to be getting serious about one woman. Love is fickle! Only people like Carrie who enjoy supporting a unemployed husband and two small kids would suggest that love is important. SEX IS IMPORTANT. FREEDOM IS IMPORTANT.
Go for it, Vick, like SCHWARZENEGGER! :gbounce:

Confucy, do not get me wrong.... I think Vick should definately sow some of his wild oats. I was not sure what exactly RenFest was....
Vick - Emma has been doing well.... but sweetlittleblonde.com is the babe who is on FIRE!!!
Thanks again to all
KittyFuzz - I'm just recently divorced and not ready for :inlove: yet and I have to admit I wouldn't let her know I was giving up my normal routine. I'm still at the wait until at least 2 days after a date to call stage
voodooman - you'll look great in tights  I knew I could count on you
Ahh Confucy - thanks for being the opposing opinion. Sorry to say my "player" days are past but I'm not quite ready to sit on the sidelines yet. Age is an consideration but so far she seems to be quite an exceptional woman, I'm still wondering what's wrong with the picture (I mean why is a woman of this caliber not attached sort of thing - that's not quite the best way to express it but you get what I mean)
sarettah - your welcome. Sorry, I should have said something first. It won't be a ton of traffic, like I said just a few hundred visitors over the next 24-36 hours. I liked the concept and always am looking for something new. I'll give it another little push again in a month or so
Gonzo - I've missed the past month's action so I'm out of the loop
If you read the first post I said most of the women I've dated are at least 10 years younger than me, my ex wife is 16 years younger than me :awinky:
Carrie - You know as well as I do that you can't have just one Oyster Shooter, one gets lonely in your belly and it calls out for friends. (where's that damn food icon) so I'll have to have 6 - you can tell we live by the Chesapeake
Actually Sundays are devoted to my other business interests so I'm pretty much a Saturday guy.
I've taken Sebastian once this year. When I go by myself I get a little intoxicated and I can't do that when I take Sebastian
Mike

The sites not the greatest thing but you can get the idea
Basically it is a recreation of an 16th century English village, but that description is a grave understatement
It's great shows, entertainment, merriment, fun, good food and drink and one of the best times and most fun you can have
Plus lots of intoxicated women in bodices :P

Me and my girl went to the RenFaire when it was out here during the summer. Had a blast. What I thought was funny, alot of fools took their play acting a bit too serious and would try to step up to me. I guess I am growing up and just walked away. Alcohol on their part and me with a pretty girlfriend makes them brave.

Question: Why are most of you men into love and marriage? Look at the statistics. Marriage does not last. Women know the facts. Men stray. Doesn't matter whether they are married to the most beautiful and wonderful woman in the world....they eventually jump the bones of other women. You all want to be ARNOLD!
Vick, don't forget how happy you were a couple of years ago. What happened? Love is fleeting. Grab it when you can, but don't live in a fantasy world and expect it to last forever. Vick, you have the opportunity to spread your wings and soar. The reason this attractive new woman in your life is single is because she is smart! Also, taking on the responsibility of a young child scares men away. If she comes on too strong, that is a sign that she may not take being a mother all that seriously. Her child should come first.

Nick, what makes you such an expert on LOVE?
I think being in love is the best feeling in the world. BUT! I am realistic enough to know that in most cases, it doesn't last. Instead, we have couples like Jen & Ben, who are almost in divorce court before they ever hit the alter! People Change!
I am being positive. I'm not giving you advice, I am giving Vick my opinion. I have lots of experience in this area. I want Vick to be happy because I like him. Women and men do the most deceitful things and play terrible games just to get the attention of a possible GF/BF.
Not all women want to be married. Not all men want to be married. Not all people are capable of being in love because they are too damn selfish.
Nick, what's your love life like these days? Don't live your life through Vick. Go find your own special Greek Goddess.
There are a whole lot of insecure men on this board. Don't dump your bullshit on Vick.

Question: Why are most of you men into love and marriage?
First of all, I have not yet seen anyone telling Vick to go get married.........
So, let's pull that bullshit out of here now.........
Relationships are like any other opportunity in life.... You have tyo recognize the right one when it comes knocking and often, if you pass on it, it does not come back again....
If you decide before the fact that having any kind of relationship is bullshit then you are depriving yourself of possible opportunities to grab happiness.......
If you allow yourself to become so jaded and cynical to stop believing in "true love" then you are depriving yourself of the ability to recognize true love when it comes up and gets in your face.....

I consider Nick a friend (even though we've never had the pleasure of meeting in person) and a very intelligent man so I value his opinion and he was being kind enough to share his opinion just as you are

Vick,
We didn't go in the time period's garb this year, but we plan to next year. I think her Perfect 10 shirt and my usual Nike stuff clashed rather badly with what everyone else was wearing. How they used to keep cool in all those clothes is beyond me.
I might just dress up as a Samurai next year, get to wear some swords. LOL.
I wonder if Nike has anything that looks Samuraish. :D

Wait a second Sarettah, Vick was wondering why this beautiful interesting woman was not attached, which in my book, could mean involved in a serious relationship or married!
Don't start with your critical bullshit. This thread is about Vick. He asked for opinions, and I gave mine.
I think Vick is in a vulnerable state. He needs to go out and have fun. He can have fun in many ways. No matter what choice he makes, he will be fine. But to listen to all of you telling him to go for love and don't let this opportunity slip by with this attractive woman is hogwash. There will be many times to see her, but he doesn't need to change his plans on Saturday. Set a new date that is good for both.
Sarettah, I suggest you go back to current events. What the fuck do you know about love and relationships? Haven't you been married to the same women forever and ever? Vick is a new bachelor. I don't think he needs the advice of a long-time married man who doesn't have a clue what is happening in the current dating market!
Vick, you asked for opinions. Your *gang* of friends are ganging up on me. They should be spending their time helping you, not attacking me. Nick follows me around like Gonzo, striking out. If he would keep his comments about me out of other people's threads, then he wouldn't get kicked in the balls by me.

Does that clear up the facts for you or do you need me to post my income tax returns for you ?
Confusy, once again you have it wrong...
damn girl...go back and read old threads or something before you post... ok ?
I have been married just over 3 years.... First marriage for both of us... I am 47 and my wife is 50...
So I played the game for a hell of a long time before getting settled down....
I do have 3 kids that all predate my marriage.... I raised my twins for most of their life.... My daughter lives with her Mom, but she is over virtually every weekend....
None of my kids were conceived in a "True Love", "long term" relationship....
From the age of 15 through 43 or 44 I dated and played the field... I first met Jen (my wife) back in 86 or 87 at the local community college... We dated for a while and then parted ways... For whatever reasons....
We got back together in 98 after I found her by using the net to figure out where she was.........

Back to the Renaissance Faire, Vick & Anthony, at one time there was a permanent location for our Faire here in San Bernardino, Calif (I think that was the place!) and then there were zoning problems or someone bought the land...don't remember all the details. I never made it to that Faire. I did go to one in Laguna Beach, Calif.
In Indiana, they have combined the OktoberFest with the RenFaire, and they have added a street carnival. It is quite an event. I try to return to Indiana each year for it. Also, the Indiana State Fair is a big event. I won a brand new Miata in the Fair Raffle a few years ago.

Plus this morning I find out .... her daughter will be joining us today. Was too late to back out then so I'll be my charming and graceful self .... ah ha ha ha ha ha (and there might be more to the story than I know)
and ..... Confucy might be right, I might have been more um ... happy doing RenFest today :(

It's a test.....
You passed question 1 by not backing out when she decided the daughter kid was going...... That was (imho of course) totally designed to see if you would cut and run or not.....
Whats the ages between your son and the daughter ? You might get extra credit points, and a definite psychological advantage if you brought the boy child along.... Throw the lady off guard like she did to you :)
Just a thought.....
Have fun whatever you do......
Oh and remember..........
Be Careful Out There........... :yowsa:
Her daughter is 5 and my son is 2
I won't take Sebastian as his mother would not approve and I'm a very doting father (I think the sun rises and sets on my son) and he is a 100% of my attention experience when we are together (by ourselves). Plus I don't drink much (if at all) when I'm with Sebastian
I'll play it by ear

You know what they say Vick, about attracting women...while out, take a cute and friendly dog with you - or better yet, take a cute child with you. For some reason, the two make you appear real and human. Plus, you can tell a lot about a man by watching his actions with animals and kids.

Because it's like visiting another world, or at least another time... it just gets in your blood and you finally feel like you're home. You don't go to see things or do things, like an amusement park... you go just to BE there.

Driving toward Fells Point I check my cell phone and have a message from P. saying the restaurant/bar I chose for us to meet at was closed (still from storm surge from the hurricane) and she let's me know of another restaurant where we can meet.
I call her cell, she answers and I say that's fine I'm on the way and running about 5 minutes late
Get to Fells Point and there's 20K+ people at the Street Festival and .... the restaurant she suggested is closed :zoinks:
So I call her cell, leave a message and walk around for about 30 minutes, I head back to the restaurant she suggested still closed and I check the restaurant next door. Don't see her. I wait a little longer (total wait time 1 hour to be extremely courteous) and take off.
I'm back home by 3:30 changed and at the RenFest by 4:30  and making merry

KC - Carrie explained it pretty well
No, I don't work there but I do have an excellent time and meet/see interesting sites and people
Great food, good drinking, excellent shopping, quality entertainment, lots of fun, lots to do and see and merriment and thousands of people (I really don't like homo sapiens that much but you can really be alone in a crowd)
I've made friends with the proprietor and staff at one of the Inn's (imagine that) and they take care of me for food and drink (and I'm not above sneaking a bottle of Citron in and having "meetings" with the proprietor and staff)
Have been doing simple illusions for about 2 years now and I take 6 or 7 illusions and have fun with people he he he
It a very tasty, interesting and intriguing slice of hedonism - so I keep going back for the pie :groucho: <-- in lieu of a food icon

What does it mean to take illusions? Is that some sort of medieval drug or something? ;)
Taking 6 or 7 of them at once sounds a little dangerous!!

Illusions as in magic tricks. I do some close-up magic.
When I'm stopped (by people asking about my clothes/costumes or asking if the can take my picture) sometimes I'll have a little fun by "floating a card or coin or making a coin pass through someone's closed hand or turning a (small) flash of fire into a ball - stuff like that
Also I'll whip out the tricks for sad looking children, no one should be sad on fair day - works most every time
And they do this every weekend? In the same location or do you follow it around?

The Maryland Fest is every Saturday and Sunday from the end of August until the end of October. It is at a permanent location here with permanent structures (building and such)
Many other states have festivals (Florida has fests in 3 different locations) and some of the performers and artisans work the fair circuit
I've been to fests in a few states but don't actually follow the fair circuit

You and your sexy Greek lady played phone tag...showed up separately at restaurants in two different locations that were closed. You waited an hour and she never contacted you in person or by phone and you went to the RenFaire (alone) in costume and did magic tricks. Is this correct?
Vick! So what is happening now? Did you talk again and set a new time and place to meet? What about picking her up at her home? Did you consider taking your ex-wife to the Faire? We have an on-going mystery, and you can't leave us hangin' :redance:

Serge, do the *old flames* ever go out completely? I still have a soft spot in my heart for all my ex-boyfriends. Something special brings two people together, and I want to remember the good times.
I don't have any children, but I had an arrangement one time like Vicks' where I shared a place with an old flame after we broke up. It worked, for a while, and then we had to go our separate ways. We didn't have a problem, but his parents wanted him to get married and have many sons, and they thought we were living *in sin* although we had cut the place in half and rarely saw each other.

Vick, you are a good man. Most men would have walked away and would see their son on holidays, if then. Children need their parents. If you can both remain civil to each other and work out an arrangement that is good for all involved, then I tip my hat to you.
Those who like RenFaires are a rare breed. The majority like to have fun, meet new people, dress up, and have a good time. There is a sense of community even if you don't know a soul at the Faire. Enjoy yourself, and please share the Faire with us. I hope to go to a winter Faire in Santa Fe in early 2004. I accidentally found myself at a RenFaire in New Mexico. Santa Fe is a quaint city and doesn't need Faires for entertainment, but what a wonderful setting. The snow was coming down in large flakes for the two days I was there, but it seemed warm outside. I needed a jacket, but no bulky coat. By the time the snow hit the ground, it magically disappeared. Not only were the food and the costumes great, but I got hooked on Indian jewelry. :okthumb:
