I moved five times in ten years in the Navy, and moved around quite a bit to stay close to my kids in the fifteen years after that.

My next move will be by Hearse ...

Never own more than you can pack up in the back of a truck.

My problem is that the size of the truck required seems to grow quickly

I feel your pain man.

We had this home built and it's sitting waiting for us to complete the sale of our house.
Buyers backed out and now we are stuck with half our home packed up in the garage. I cant believe we own all this shit.

Since the new home is contingent on the sale of ours, we have to wrap it up in the next 30 days or our new house goes back on the market from the builder, which sucks cause we really wanted the new house.

What gets me is the possession they normally use in contrcts in Florida! The normal is 'possession upon closing. Now, when you have back to back closings - how is that possible? You go to the closing with all your stuff in the truck? and of course you found time to clean the place up after moving out, so the buyer can move right in? I think I like the ole 30 day possession that is the standard here in Indiana.

I guess they do it because so many of the sales are new houses or people with second homes. The buyer makes an inspection before closing and knows exactly what he is getting. But when you are selling your house at 10 am & using the proceeds to buy the next one at 11am - that really is pushing things for everyone.

Congrats. Beautiful homes, everybody!

Voodooman, I am looking for a home in Northern California. I want to be able to wake up and see the GG looking back at me. I love California.

There for a while I was moving every year. It gets old very fast. Since there is a voodoo and a voo, I will nickname you DOO! Have you ever taken your bike to the San Francisco hills? :wnw:

Billie, I lived in SF for a couple of years. Napa is very close and is a great trip. I like driving up the coast from SF to Stinson Beach (where Sharon Stone's house was located in "Basic Instinct") and continue until you hit the parts of the coast where driftwood is everywhere. I collect it and bring it home with me. I have a huge bleached out limb of a tree which I found on the beach a few years ago. It's in my den, and at Christmas time I decorate it with lights. It's a real conversation piece and it brings back good memories.

Crawfishapooloza sounds like a great idea. :okthumb:

I think selling a house is even worse than moving. I also have the worst timing ever. My house is on the market and I have roughly half my stuff moved out. Been doing it slowly over the last few months. There were 2 houses on the market here in the last 2 years and both sold within a week at the listing price. I put my house on the market and the same fricking day the borough council announced they were going to put in sewage for the entire borough. (I never thought it would pass) $6000 tap-in fee and $125/month for something I've never had a problem with. My septic system works just fine. Within 3 days there were 75 houses on the market.

So now I've got 3 houses and I'm broke as hell paying all the bills. Add to that half my belongings are an hour and a half away and it really sucks. Seems like every time I need something it's at the other house.

The other great thing is strangers showing up at your house at 7:30 AM to look at it without having calling first. 3 times I've been awakened by my garage door opening.

I can't wait to get this nightmare over.

Billy -

House is looking good man!

I'm still wanting to finish remodeling my house. I'm very good at tearing things out, not so good at putting them back in. I should have saved the $40k+ we put into our back yard and finished the inside of the house! Although the outdoor kitchen is under full use with the back being completed!

Surprises me too, and I seriously dont know why I havent been either.
I dont know anyone there for one, and since I have been single most
of my adult life, I dont like to travel by myself, moving, no problem, just not vacation.

Ill make it someday soon, I hope and Buff will be the first person I call.
Maybe he can even direct me to the best place to find a date.
hahaha

Go to the Tenderloin district. You will fit in perfectly.

Billy
09-19-2003, 05:54 PM
The Tenderloin knows the struggling merchants, harbors the drug deals and feels the pain of the drunk who lacks a way or a will to survive. The Tenderloin shoulders the despair of the youth shot down by the new knowledge that a virus hides in the blood, and understands the fear that expensive drugs affordable on the floors above may be unavailable to save a life on the streets below. The Tenderloin understands that sex can be just a job and that it's the hunger from the outside, and the loneliness inside, that needs to be fed. The Tenderloin understands that though they might hide in the shadows behind the limousines arriving in the Theatres, or under the sparkle of the financial skyline, each person here thinks of this, San Francisco, as their own city and their home.

If you're gonna take a bike ride, do a REAL bike ride.....

North Coast..... Eureka, Arcata, Crescent City, Shasta.........

The last move I went from an almost 4000 sq ft house to just over 2000 sq ft. My entire 1100 sq ft basement had my Dad and brother's crap in it. They had to come and get everything, I gave a ton of furniture to my brother and SIL in NC, a ton to my next door neighbor, STILL ended up with an immense amount of trash AND completely filled a 2 car garage with furniture, books and appliances for Goodwill.

And now I have to rent a 10X10 storage room for all my books, photos, and other crap.

I can NOT throw ANYTHING away! :(

The house and yard look GREAT Billy! How much sand did you end up putting down?

Damn, all this talk makes me miss California. Florida is nice but the scenery sucks.

I miss snow in the Mohave Desert, the Marin headlands at sunset on a warm summer evening look towards San Francisco, Yosemite in the winter, Mono lake, Mount Shasta, Devil's Slide (used to have a house with a view of the slide), Pismo Beach, Lake Tahoe, etc.,etc...

That's California :awinky:

Hey all !

Well needless to say Bellsouth screwed me !
I get to my mom's and "they say my adsl is working" but I cannot get it to work !
Then to top things off my modem dies in my computer so I finally had a chance to get a new one and I installed it (for those of you who know me, yes "I" installed it) and I am back on line at least !

Peaches I eneded up with a little over 140 loads of sand... I might need about another 50 before I move in : (

Well going to catch up !

I am just glad I made my picks for football early : )

The new house is looking great Billy! So... when can I come visit?

I have been house shopping, we need more room to expand our cam studio here. Its been really stressful though. Im trying to find a big one with a walkout basement so I can have somewhat of a normal away from work life again, while still not having to drive to work.

I dont want to build.

I miss chatting with you sweetie:)

Sarettah, you forgot to mention RUSSIAN RIVER! A very nice GAY area with a beautiful shore of driftwood! I would be scared to death to take a motorcycle on that drive from San Francisco to the North.

The last time I made that trip, I was driving so slowly that cars were lined up behind me honking their horns and yelling at me. There was no room for me to pull over. The more they harassed me, the slower I drove out of fear of going over the steep road into the ocean .

Voodooman, Next week I'm taking some sexy single women to SF and they want to drive up the coast and see Monterey and Carmel. My car is in the shop being checked out. I need new tires and a new battery before I begin the voyage. You will kick yourself a hundred times for not going to SF sooner once you are there. You may not want to live there, but you will be damn glad you made the trip. Great City! Great Food! Lots of beautiful women! B)
