View Full Version : Why was the FBI questioning me yesterday?

Anyone else have the pleasure of an FBI "pleasure chat"?

It seems a former losely associated business associate of mine has a history of problems running illegals across the border and "accidently" forgetting to take the drugs out from under his seat when making such trips.

I've been through a few of these fact-finding pow wows (especially with the telemarketing crackdowns of the early 90's) and you never fail to nearly shit your pants when they start with that monotone line of questions and you're thinking the whole time "Am I going to say something that'll fuck me even though it may not be as it seems?"

So, I've had the pleasure of having a new cam studio shutdown pending an investigation, seisure of business documents (luckily I keep good notes and keep my shit clean).

Some of you may know I had a bookkeeper last year who embezzled a ton of cash from myself and a business partner and then went to Mexico, partied and blew his brains out. Interestingly enough he came up in the conversation as well.

These guys don't seem to miss a trick. I was asked about certain associations with certain people in this industry and payments I've recieved and made.

You'd be amazed at what these guys know, but also what they want you to think they know (thank goddess I have a great attorney who works for me much cheaper than his normal rates (he worked pro bono for me for years when I was just starting and a wet behind the ears newbie)). This industry is going to have some major issues with the feds. It's not so much about obscenity as it is the offshore banking, money laundering, etc. Although, they seem to want to use whatever means necessary to nail people, and it's not just the porners, but they are target number 1 or seem to be.

Obviously a lot of this is from my own conclusions and not anything specifically told to me by my interrogators.

Luckily I have the friend that I went to highschool with who know works for there and has been supportive and offered me a lot of good advice. He obviously couldn't go into specifics, but told me my conclusions were pretty valid and close to the mark.

I know I'm probably preaching to the converted, but now is thetime to REALLY button down your business. Offshore? Better be VERY careful. Shady business practices? You could make the hit list.

I'm so glad I got "out" of the porn biz and just started going with adult related products (ok, the cam studio is a close forray back into the fold, but I feel much safer with that than being a paysite owner.)

I'm usually one of the last people to play chicken little and while the sky may not be falling, it does seem a little lower these days.

For the record, everything seems to be a-ok with me since I do keep my shit clean and my part on their investigation seems to be overwith.

...and no, I didn't tell them where the bodies were buried ;-)))))))))))))))))

The average RICO case is 6 years from start of an investigation to an indictment I heard recently.

With RICO the Feds can get anyone....

The Feds also move very slowly and maticously - this is why they have a 98% conviction rate.

First day in Federal Criminal Law class at Loyola, Prof said only thing you have to know about it in reality is be the first person to cut a deal for your client. Because with a 98% convinction rate, your guy will NOT be getting off. Cut the best deal you can early.....

It's not so much about obscenity as it is the offshore banking, money laundering, etc.

Pardon me for being "Captain Obvious" here, but ...

Prohibition, Al Capone, this, that, online porn, the other ... All the Feds ever really really give a shit about is their cut. Always has been the case; always will be.

Greedier bastards than any goverment there never will be. Not even anyone in this biz can compare. No one in Columbia or Saudi Arabia either. This is why there is still tobacco sales, taxes on gasoline, etc. If the government could make money off of the most horrible, grizzly, atrocious things you can imagine, they will publicly condemn it and privately condone it -- as long as they figure out a way to get paid.

Sorry to hear about the problems and hassles, Sykk. Glad you have your ass covered though!

I did a few years ago - both the FBI and the IRS came over to my house to chat about an ex-boss. He's now spending 4.5 years in Club Fed so apparently, they didn't like what they heard from me or the other 20 or so people they spoke with. :(

The interesting thing is that he had 10's of millions offshore and the while the offshore accounts are what nailed him, the government has NOT been able to get them to pay his fines (several million in fines he owes).

Still makes ya nervous though, eh?

Mine was similar, but didn't make me any less nervous, they were mainly collecting info on this dude and seemed to know enough about me an certain business contacts that it was pretty scary.

At one time, deep down inside my dark, black, twisted soul, I wanted to play a game of "fuck you" with some people I truly despise in this business, but I decided against it and would never want anyone else to have to go through this and in reality, I was scared shitless of anything that could be taken the wrong way and used to actually come after ME instead of the man they were interested in.

I have more integrity than that...for now ;-))

yeah, I tend to attract some interesting events...but the fact I survive them either makes me strong or makes me a little more on the edge...LOL

On the bright side, all these years of bad karma should be over with by now...I'm still making up for being such an asshole as a teen.....

Its election time next year - I´m sure a few of the politicians want to show the voters that they can do something about porn.

I wonder how many of us have a file at the FBI? Oh well, time will tell...

Sharpie

I think about everyone has a file with the FBI............. of course, their right hand is the IRS :-) Big brother is always watching and collecting information.

Both arms of our government are patient as hell. They just keep on collecting info, and keep coming back with questions. They know eveything about you through your social security number and IRS - and every comment ever made about you.

No wonder they have a 98% rate - they take forever & who can afford to fight them? They stretch things out for years. You are better off talking to them through an attorney - but, that gets old - who can afford it. They just wear you down....... both mentally and monetarily.
