Okay so I stopped by the local GFY today and rather than post this over there where it would get buried in 10 minutes along with all the regular business posts I thought I would discuss it here.

So in particular I was taking a look at the thread Sleazydream will be taken to court, just because those type of things always interest me: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.p...threadid=174682 (http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=174682)

Anyways, why is it that of the first 50 posts in the thread, approx 25 of them are "This spot is for sale" "Sig for Sale" "Posting to get on first page", etc.

Where's the relevant info? I feel like every thread I try to read over there gets buried by these type of posts along with: Getting my popcorn, or :D :D . Thus creating a 10 page long thread of bs and 15 real posts in it.

So I guess the point/question here is, when is GFY being added into Boardtracker so I can filter out all the crap? :)

Because Lensman is only interested in impressions for his advertisers. Lots of smacktards posting = lots of impressions = more money. Which means Lens can buy more hookers and cars.

Dont point that out though, it makes him mad. I cant believe the money people pay for advertising on there when its the same group of mongoloids refreshing the board 5000 times a day.

If GFY wasnt a chaotic cluster fuck, it would be called YNOT or Netpond. Just treat it like the car accident it is. Drive by slowly and laugh at all the idiots.

Exactly right Serge, clearly the highest post counts and longest threads, their relevance, well that is left up to the posters and he can't control that much

I been around that clusterfuck pretty much since day one.

For the most part I think it was blind luck. While every other board at the time had moderators that would ban a fuckhead in a minute, Lensman was never around, and his mods were pretty inept.

The thing grew on its own like a cancer. Lens saw the results of a hands off approach and then begin to weave in incentives to keep the monkies mashing at their keyboards. Tshirts, dvd players, awards related to post count, having a resident slut work the nerds into a froth. Anything to keep the masses posting.

Lensman for the most part is utterly clueless as to what happens at his board. His utter and complete apathy towards the people and quality of posts on that board created that board. It was by no stretch of the imagination any genius business move on behalf of Lensman. That board created itself.

Labret, there is an element of LUCK behind every success...like it or not, but you can't deny it.

I found that the important threads on GFY always have copies on other boards (most probably the originals) and as for the rest of the threads there - I don't care who fucked who and who hates who :awinky: so I stay away.

As to when will GFY be added to BoardTracker.com - well... when they will sober up and chose not to be "opted out".

Why would GFY want to be added to the board tracker/scanner sites? Its not like they need traffic.. I would prefer it not be added. The first time I got an email showing me how many post had been made on the keywords I had chosen - I would likely edit my settings not to include them. Not that I don't want to know whats going on - but because there is sooo much fluff happening that I just can't process that much information.

GFY is what it is.. buying ad space on GFY is the equivalent to buying a big blinking billboard in Times Square. It may or may not bring you business but a hell of a lot of people know you exist just because they see you 5 billion times per day. Same goes with sigs.. the more people post the more often the sig is displayed the more likely people will atleast have some vague recollection of your company's name.

I swing by GFY on my daily rounds like I do the other boards.. From time to time a topic will catch my interest and I'll monitor it for the rest of the day or untill the thread goes dormant. It moves more like a chat room than a board so I think of it differently. When I'm looking for a real conversation with post that are longer than one line I come to places like this.

Lensman is fortunate to have GFY under his roof. Anyone who says they wouldn't like to have GFY as their own would not be telling the whole truth. I'm sure he doesn't keep much track of whats going on .. but then who the hell could or would want to? To much happening all at the same time. I would be tickled to have a monster like GFY and all I had to do was cash the checks... reminds me of YNOT or Netpond once upon a time... though not on the same scale.

What is said or done on that board doesn't make any difference.. if you make an ass of yourself on a smaller board people may remember. If you do it on GFY nobody will remember... just to much happening.. and everythings tongue in cheek. I don't understand why so many people make a fuss over GFY.. it is what it is.

True.
I had people contacting me when GFY was still in BoardTracker about removing it from their account.
However - when your company is mentioned there - it is something some people want to know about.

However, it is not likely that they would want GFY in BT with their attitude.

As to why would anybody want to be involved with GFY on a regular (or even occasional) basis - I can't think of a reason  but it seems some people think its really fun and spend their whole day there. What does it say about those people and who they are... well.. I dunno

As to owning GFY - what businessman says no to a moneymaking site? (talking about the ad-space - not the money it makes the advertisers ;) )
50 ads rotating in the top banner - only that makes them about $1800*50=$90K. even if its not the case and some pay less - its more than 50K - and for what?
I'd take it  (Of course I would ban 50% of the people a minute later for being a racist assholes who has nothing to do with the industry :yowsa: )

Well I figure if a good piss is going on about a company I'm associated with someone well let me know on icq.. it isn't necessary to watch everything like a hawk when you have little birdies looking out for ya.. I do the same for other people.

I don't have a problem with people who love GFY.. Almost everyone post there at some time or another.. doesn't make them simple minded. Agreed there are some dim people that frequent GFY but all the boards deal with them.. they just talk more when they don't think people are paying attention..

:)

Yes. I agree..
I dont have any view about people who love GFY in general..
But people who refresh it all day and follow it all constantly?... I would say they are either:
a. strange people with too much time on their hands and not to too mich to do (many I would hardly regard as webmasters)
b. furstrated marketing professionals :D furstrated - because they have to follow all day threads of those furstrated kiddies and other angry souls (in general - type a) :D

There are exception to this with threads that actually deserve attention and are actually valuable.
I admit - when I want to release some steam or when people point a good or funny thread my way - I sometimes go there, but.
But about a year ago I grew impatient with the board for the simple fact that the bullshit over there grew so big that I couldn't really digest it any more :hic:

GFY is comparable to times square???!?!?!?!?

i understand the point you are trying to make ... ie, lots of sets of eyes, but lots of people doesn't make GFY a times square ... there's a *little* more to it than that ...

Boards are defined by the number of reloads, eyeballs and posts they get. Both Netpond and YNOT in their heydays were much the same, 90% of what was on them was fluff, the other was hidden in the board, and without threads it required alot of reloading to find things. Not that I am complaining, just commenting.
