Personally, Forest, I think that game is going to be VERY exciting.....right up until kickoff....then it is going to lose any excitement it may have had. I think the big Tuna is going to go home depressed. (although I dont think I will be able to say that in the upcoming years....just this year)

Can my Seahawks go 2-0??

My rank surely hopes so :rokk:

Well said, CJ....there are several games that are easy picks "to win" but "to cover" is another whole ball game. I have been calling Carolina a "cinderella team" this year...but they may very well lose to the Bucs (notice I said *MAY*)....but by 10 points??? That one has me scratching my head.

ROFL!! You may actually have a decent shot at the XBox this week!! :nyanya:

Hey John!! How are you, my friend?? I have made mine...but I may have to make some adjustments before game time...I am really beginning to second guess myself on a few of them. As long as my Falcons win, however, I don't care if I only have a single win this week!!! :)

Big spreads and early in the season when we dont really know who's for real yet....double tough.

Well said, HP.....Detriot scores 42 points last week, yet is a 7 point underdog to a team that melted down last week at the grand opening of their newly renovated home. Where is the sense in that? Could this be the upset pick of the week??

You guys need to remember that the spread is not really an indication of what the score actually might be, it is simply the point at which the odd setters think the most people can be enticed to bet the most on, since the house will always lay off bets to make their % all the way around.

And then too, remember if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Um.....huh? Knowing how much you know about the game I know that there is something really profound in there somewhere!

I think i understand what you just said ... but DAMN - it was sexy anyway!!!! :P

I picked carolina over tampa bay but only based on the spread ... i think the bucs will win the game but 10 points is a big call! good to see an expert is in the same boat as us ignorants on this one! :okthumb:

KK, I have no idea what you just said :biglaugh:

I said the spreads are to get suckers like us to bet more! :)

The casinos always get their %, unless things go terribly awry -- they don't care who wins and loses as long as they can move their money off on other casinos and cover their profit margins.

It's kind of like their way of managing exit traffic, if you think about it. Someone I know has a sportsbook in the Caribbean and used to own a casino on Antigua before they all got the boot, we had an interesting talk about how those lines and the book covers on them earlier this year.

And I agree, having half points on all the spreads sucks.

What random button?? :(

I'm picking by teams located where I know someone - if I like that person, I pick their team. If I don't like them, I pick the other team. If that fails, I'm going for my favorite colors. :)

Thats all well and good... but you really should take in account which teams mascot would win in a fight too!

T,

Detroit will be the sleeper pick of the week, though I think they're lose to the Pack without Driver playing the Pack has lost a big weapon that could have preyed on Detroit's week secondary, if Herrington has as game they'll cover.

What about the Texans getting 8.5 on the Saints, are they really that bad or are the Saints that good?

Thus proving the point that the spread is designed to get suckers to bet, not that it's a real indication of how the game might go lol...

The Saints disappointed last week but I really think they are a better team that they are being given credit for now. Of course they screw me on the spread at least 10 times a year so I can't win with them anyway.

The point spreads are to even out the money for the bookies. If people are betting heavy on one team they'll give the other team more points. Bookies make money on the vigorish. (the fee they charge for placing the bet) They pay the winners from the losers share which is why they want the money even on both sides. I have a friend that makes his living on betting on football. He only bets on games where the spread gets out of whack and then he bets heavy $5k to $10k+ per game. Unfortunately he absolutely refuses to share his picks with anyone. :(
