ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Ten women sued Brevard County on Wednesday seeking to abolish laws that make it illegal for them to go topless in public places where men can.

The women’s attorney, Mark Tietig, said the lawsuit seeks to point out the hypocrisy of two current state statutes and the county’s anti-nudity ordinance. A woman is currently allowed to expose her breasts for nursing a child or working in a strip club, for example.

“But not if she wants to herself,” Tietig said. “Only for somebody else’s wants or desires.”

The women range in age from 14 into the 70s, and none are strippers, Tietig said. Two of the women have been arrested for baring their breasts, according to the suit.

Violations are currently considered misdemeanors, with the most extreme penalty a year in prison.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Orlando, seeks to have the statutes and ordinance declared unconstitutional.

Brevard County officials said Wednesday they had not received the suit and could not comment.

I think he meant you lost his support (pun intended) when it was stated they weren't strippers - especially if they're ranging in age up to 70! :unsure:

'Tis the dangers of allowing this - you don't get to pick and choose who gets to go "bare" and it's rarely the pretty girls with firm breasts. :lol:

Mermaid's bust nets 10G payout from city

Amy Gunderson, nabbed for going topless in Coney Island Mermaid Parade, sued to defend free expression rights, which ended up costing city 10,000 clams.

Try to make a mermaid wear a bra and it's gonna cost you.
The city learned that lesson the hard way yesterday, forking over a $10,000 settlement to an artist's model who got busted for wearing only a thong and body paint to the 2001 Coney Island Mermaid Parade.

The settlement grew out of a federal lawsuit filed by Amy Gunderson, 31, of Brooklyn, who argued that her arrest for going topless violated her First Amendment rights. The charges were dismissed.

In announcing the settlement, Gunderson's lawyer, Ron Kuby, said his client's argument holds water because New York's Court of Appeals has affirmed that "a woman has a constitutional right to appear in public topless, the same right that men have."
