BENTONVILLE, ARK (AP) -- Some Wal-Mart customers soon will be able to
sample a new discount item -- Wal-Mart's own brand of wine. The world's
largest retail chain is teaming up with E&J Gallo Winery of Modesto, Calif.,
to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2-5 range.

While wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of
Wal-Mart brand wine into their shopping carts, there is a market for cheap
wine, said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at Roger Williams University
in Bristol, R.I. She said: "The right name is important."

So, here we go: The top 12 suggested names for Wal-Mart Wine:

12. Chateau Traileur Parc

11. White Trashfindel

10. Big Red Gulp

9. Grape Expectations

8. Domaine Wal-Mart "Merde du Pays"

7. NASCARbernet*

6. Chef Boyardeaux

5. Peanut Noir

4. Chateau des Moines

3. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar!

2. World Championship Riesling

And the number one name for Wal-Mart Wine ...

1. Nasti Spumante

And who says they don't know wine in Arkansas

We already have "2 Buck Chuck"...

I haven't tried any of it, but it's supposedly quite the fad in a lot of places....

They did a taste test on this on NBC's Today show and everyone liked the $2 stuff the best. :)

I'm NOT a wine snob - if I like it, I don't care if it cost $1 or $1000 a bottle (or if it comes in with a screw cap - ask Ulfie :awinky: ).

Though it did tick me off that some wine I really liked at Wig's was around $145 - not exactly something I could drink daily. :(

Even though it was a "screw top" wine it's still pretty good. Small winery but that they make good wine. Diamond is a great white wine and it doesn't need a snobby cork in the bottle. :P

I have the same problem, especially with reds.

My taste is either toward the bottom shelf wino brands or brands that come in a box or it leaps up to $100+ per bottle.

Basically i either want alcoholic fruit juice or good wine. Any red wine inbetween the two is usually just too harsh for my unsophisticated palette to enjoy...

You would have LOVED what Ulfie brought from PA. :inlove: Very sweet and smooth.

A couple of years ago I was at the beach and had a cabernet that I REALLY liked at a restaurant - smooth and not "oaky". I was so impressed that I had found a cabernet that was "expensive" (at least at this restaurant.....) that I liked. Walked into Skinflints in East Cobb to grab a few bottles - it was $6 or so a bottle and in the bargain bin. So much for my "refined" tastes! :P
