I really think that goverments *world wide* needs to send a MAJOR warning to these virus/hackers etc. who cost BILLIONS when they spread their shit on the internet. Until now most of these "kids" have not received any kind of punishment, which have made any of the others think twice.

But it would also be nice to see companies like MicroSoft getting fined, when there are major problems with their OS - this might get MS to release more secure software in the future...

Most likely, a Kevin Mitnick groupie! Since Mitnick doesn't have the know-how or the balls to create a virus, let alone send one, he relies on his fans to do it for him.

This hacker they arrested is 18. That is plenty old enough to take responsibility for his *virus* actions. They should send him to a Chinese Prison. He can always open a Defense Fund like Mitnick and cheat supporters out of their money!

DOWN WITH HACKERS! :rokk:

Know thy enemies! Well, I'm a Kevin Mitnick expert. I have spent ten years examining this hacker under a microscope. A very interesting speciment, indeed! :zoinks:

If you are a virus sending punk, then I believe you deserve to be called exactly what you are, and this kid is a fat scumbag cracker.

Serge, I first heard about Mitnick in the book, Cyberpunk, and that was 10 years ago. Since he grew up in LA, there has been a constant flow of info about him. My, how time flies. I've been told I am 75 and in a wheelchair, so 10 years means nothing to me! If you check with the ham radio community in Southern Calif, you will find they all know about Mitnick and his hacking life.

What a fucking moron... I read this story on MSN yesterday morning. I bet the 1337 community is laghing thier asses off at this kid.

I am so impressed by his skillz! OOOH he changed a filename, wow! And left his domain name [they caught him by his whois] information in the virus! Wow, that's pretty fucking impressive! He is so 1337! I hope they give him the max. The little bastard deserves it.

Mitnick is a looser. Nothing more than a criminal who deserved what he got. Shit he deserves more... I can't belive that he can go out and make money on this security "consulting" bullshit.

Gumby, a long time ago I started writing a book about x-rated ham radio in Southern Calif. Mitnick was one of many hams who had a prison background who was very well known in the LA area. The Internet was just getting into full steam, so the tie-in with hackers and ham radio was a natural connection. I became Mitnick's messenger and it continued throughout the five years he was in prison. His Uncle Mitchell helped me with the research.

I was very naive and didn't realize the damage that *bad* hackers can do. I have seen the light. Hallelujah! :gbounce:

I was watching Today about this guy this morning - seems the virus he modified only affected 7000 people and since they can't nail the person who started the original blaster, they're going to "make an example" of this kid. And apparently most of what the press has said about him consists of lies in order to make him look worse than he is (i.e. that he's a "fast driver", yet the kid doesn't even have a learner's permit, let alone a driver's license).

I'm not saying that he's a saint, but if Ashcroft nails him for this, then it shows his mentality of "making examples" of the little guy.

Peaches, I agree that his punishment should fit his crime - no one should be made examples off... the problem is that his virus could have made much more damage - only reason it didnīt was that it was halted. It could easy have been 70.000, 700.000, 7.000.000 or even more computers... He might just be a kid who lost his common sense infront of his computer, but I do not feel sorry for him.. he knew what he was doing, and if he had gotten away with it, then be sure that the next virus he would have modified or created by his own would have been even worse than this one.

Don't get me wrong - I do NOT feel sorry for him, but if we set a precedent for punishing for what someone COULD have done, we're sliding down a VERY slippery slope! If I run a red light, should I get a ticket for running a red light or be prosecuted for vehicular homicide because I COULD have killed someone? :o And does being arrested for this give the press the right to lie about him in order to make him look worse so the courts get tainted jurors?

Peaches, don't let your good heart keep you from getting justice done. This kid is not a hacker. He is a cracker. He destroys. He doesn't care whom he hurts.

Once upon a time I felt like you. A lot of years have gone by and I realize there is a very big difference between hackers who discover holes in Microsoft Explorer and reveal them, and a cracker like this kid and Kevin Mitnick, who not only do millions of dollars in damage, but take away our privacy and expose us and our computers to danger.

Mitnick's cry is that he was made an example by the government and all he was doing was entering other's computers and "taking a look" because he was curious. Bullshit! Mitnick was a thief. He stole information from systems. He says he never profited from his actions. How can we believe this bastard when he has lied his entire life about everything he has done.

These cracker virus sending shitheads deserve to be tossed into prison for several years, given supervised probation after they leave prison, fined, forced to do community service work, and branded with FAT FELON FUCK on their foreheads. :yowsa:
