View Full Version : 6000lb SUV tax credit

BradShaw

Figured it was about time I took advantage of it. Anyone else buying a 6000lb car and using the tax write offs?

Anyone need a used navigator 2000 with bling wheels or a 2002 expedition eddie bauer? I am selling both and getting one new SUV. Laura wants a benz or bmw, so I guess I have to do some work.

I know a lot of people (not in adult though) that are using that tax credit. I suspect it will be changed soon to close the loophole for the soccer mom's selling Mary Kay so take advantage of it while you can!

How much does a Cayenne weigh?

Can we include the weight of me and GonZo sitting in it?

5860 pounds :(

Looks like it would just need ONE of you! :P

The intent of the law was for farm vehicles - I'm having a hard time thinking of the Cayenne as a farm vehicle. :awinky:

You can even put in an aftermarket gps system to catch theives if your car is jacked!

Brad,
don't do it,
just ain't worth it.

why do you wanna bother with few grands write offs?

will that help you?

I personally always beleived that one of the benefits of "big money" is the ability to pay taxes without ANY loopholes and sleep like a fuckin' baby!

Mike, I rode in a new Escalade the other day and was dissapointed. Way too much plastic inside. Also, around here, mostly blacks drive them.

My Navigator is the best car I have ever owned, just time for a new one.

No plastic here.

You're kidding me right Brad? The whole front part of new lincoln is plastic - the part the covers the stereo. I likethe Navigator, when I rent vehicles when I am out of town I always get them.

The bottom line for me is GM SUVs perform better then Ford SUVs driving wise.... Ford SUVs sway a lot more on the roads, and are very top heavy. The Navigator IS the best SUV ford makes and its not as bad as a others, but GM makes best full size SUVs in my opinion. That is why I have a suburban, tahoe and escalade. ( My parents have a suburban and a tahoe)

The funny thing is we used to be a "Ford" family.... I remember growing up we usually always had Fords when I was young.

gregtx

I had a 95 2 door 4x4 tahoe and a 2000 EB 4x4 expedition.. loved both of them...

but my "wifes" new Acura MDX has them both beat now... better ride, better climbing power up a mountain (and smoother).. and resale value is waaaaay better...

one draw back. i forgot to get the tow package.. so I have no idea how well it trailers something :-)

Mike AI

You cannot compare small luxury SUVs to large SUVs....

The smaller SUVs are more like facy cars, station wagos.... large SUVs are more like trucks.

Sammi with Insite has the Pilot - the Honda version of the MDX and I was VERY impressed with it! 7 seater, very smooth ride and seemingly put together a lot better than my EB Exploder - and it was several thousand less than mine. :(

I don't think it hits the 6000 pound weight though.

If you guys want resale value I have only one word. DIESEL!

I had a 2001 F350 crew cab 4x4 with the 7.3liter PSD. I paid 34,400 special ordered.

50,000 miles later with several dings and dents (i use my trucks), they gave me 28,000 trade in. Hell, I never washed the truck or cleaned the inside the whole time I had it until I traded.

Stepped into this truck for 35,500 and it will pull your house over.

Mike, I agree with you on the SUV's and I like GM. But for heavy duty trucks and pulling power I would not go Chevy/GMC. Not sure I trust an aluminum head diesel.

I'm a Ford man when it comes to trucks, and if I could not have PSD I would go with a Cummins.

How big is the trailer you are pulling?

I think its 25 feet long, and like 7 1/2 feet tall.

I bought a covered trailer to tow my toys inside of it. Needed something big enough to put my Escalade in.

My car guy loves the new diesel that Chevy put out. I do not know enough about them. I will suggest the ford to him.

The orignal Escalades were just fancy Tahoes....

Now they are made to be their own unique car.

I do not think you could go wrong with either vehicle!

The New Escalade Ext's are sweet, look carefully Brad when you go, many of the dealers around here have a Supercharged Ext they are selling for $100k, comes with an active ram air hood, sweet 22's holding it up and it's got a ton of balls.

Hey whats the credit for having a Truck over 6000lbs? I just bought another SUV, 2004 Expedition sits on 22's ofcourse, 3 DVD Zones, Xbox, Playstation 3, and every single zone of the truck can watch and hear whatever they want. :) I would love to hear about the write off :)

My bad I type like a bitch with a few fingers and one of the dumb ass's didnt listen and hit 3, Playstation 2 is what i meant, however once it's released it will have PS3 as well, I had it setup for 3 Zones so it could always handle another system, or computer.

Only pics I have online right now are of the truck being torn up, nothing was done the night I had the truck torn up (which happend to be about 1/2 hour after I picked it up).

Brad...

Do not listen to Mike....Navigator all the way! How long has Ford been making this SUV? (hint: anyone ever own a Bronco?) How long has Caddy been making the Escalade? (since the words bling bling entered our vocablulary)

If you *really* want to have some fun, get the new "Puff Daddy" edition of the Navigator....will hit the assembly lines in a few weeks.....of course it only comes in one color (my favorite :) but it is maxed out with monitors, play stations, dvd, huge stereo system...the works!

THEN, you will be bling blinging :)

Those of us that actually USE the 4WD in our SUV's in order to get around where we live would muddy those rims up so fast no one would ever see them. :awinky:

Then again.....does the spinning spin the mud off? B)

not to mention like Peaches said you can spin the mud off.

The tax deduction is relative to the vehicle's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) which is different than the vehichle's curb weight.

Take a Range Rover for example:

Curb Weight = 5379 lbs.
GVWR = 6724 lbs.

There are not many passanger vehicles that have a curb weight of 6000+ lbs. You can even have luxury sedans with a GVWR of 6000 lbs. Don't just think SUVs :)

Yo Shawn - lets not forget the Porsche Cayenne Turbo :)

BTW, the Escalade got Martin's track record for 1/4 mile for an SUV hehe Gotta love Lingenfelter.

KK - If I were thinking about getting a Maybach I would just buy an S 600 which is faster, more agile, and $170k cheaper (my recommendation would go out to anyone else thinking about it). My next thought would be to pick up a Bentley Arnage T. However, I'm not that big pimpin' ;)
