Here is the info:

It's in Las Vegas.

It's in January.

Expect to find the following:

1. A room filled with booths from companies in our industry. Hone your non-verbal communication skills because some wannabe rapstar idiot will be playing his music too loud thereby preventing anyone from having a decent conversation.

2. MANY women with less than attractive bodies dressed in outfits with far too little material.

3. A FEW hot women dressed in outfits with far too much material.

4. A large group of 18 to 50 year olds acting like 4 year olds.

5. A handful of business people working away from the main showroom having intelligent conversations and doing business.

6. Many parties, most of which you will not be able to get in until they are almost over. When you do get in, get all your drinks at your first trip to the bar, chances are it will be your only trip.

Did I miss anything?

Actually, this past January most of the noise was coming from an Omm Pah band ..... :yowsa:

I am so tired of it being at the Venetian. Can't AVN find another hotel/casino in Vegas?

JMM, great stuff there!!

Let's see what you may have missed ...

- The parties where 400 people you never saw before are told they also need the special pass and not just their badge to get in, and so the 400 people respond by standing in line two hours thinking that will still get them in. (Ok, this is one is actually funny to watch.)

- The nights when nothing is happening, and then the next night when eight parties are all scheduled for the same exact time slot.

- The parties that promise transportation to and from all night long, every 15 minutes. And then there's only one bus there and one bus back four hours later.

- The VIP passes that get you nothing VIP-worthy.

- The guards who fleece people at the whatcha call it club. Bitch and moans at the end of every convention. Then the next convention there's guaranteed to be at least two parties throwned there again, like some mindless Star Trek episode time loop from hell can be repeated ad infinitum.

Yup, Venetian again. I guess AVN is sticking with the familiar. They dont really need the space of the Sands at this point, the show floor would fit in the convention space available at any of the larger hotels.

It's possible they just dont want it to look like a step down or a step backwards. The only hotel that wouldn't be considered a step down would be Bellagio, and I doubt they'd welcome the porn crowd en masse.

When was the last time it was somewhere else? Last one I remember being elsewhere was what, 1998 or so at the Monte Carlo? That was a mess with the show floor split between two locations and many hotel management types less than thrilled to have half naked women running around their hotel.

Mandalay Bay has a convention center of their own that was under construction, maybe its already build. That would be a cool.

i'm sick of venetian

I'm not wild about the Venetian either. Seems like every show exhibitors get half their stuff ripped off by "security" at the hotel. The other wonderful thing about the Venetian is the 5 mile walk from the lobby to the Sands Expo. There is a possibility that AVN has a long term contract with them though. I know they have a 5 year contract with the Westin in FL where they gaurenteed to sell out the hotel every year.

The bad thing about Vegas is that you have to work with the unions for set up and tear down. From what I've heard, the fact that those with booths were not allowed to take down and pack their own booths resulted in a lot of the theft situations. Vegas has a more relaxed atmosphere regarding adult, but at what monetary price? :(

Very true, the venetian is probably getting dull, but I think its a very good location for many reasons.

First of all, Sands Expo of course, ok, its a lot bigger than what we really need, but it just means we will definately have enough room.

Then, it is one of the best hotels in vegas, without a doubt. Ok, the bellagio is similar, and (although I never saw it myself yet) the aladin is supposed to be very good. But I'd say that neither the bellagio nor the aladin will accept the big adult webmaster crowed so much.

It is also very well situated in almost the middle of the strip. The mandalay bay, as mentioned by slavdogg is rather far at one of the ends, no, or am I mistaking it for another one?

Allways good and bad things about a location, I guess its better to stay in one place that people are used to now and that themself is used to the adult webmaster crowed... as far as I remeber there has not only been bad things happening to us at the venetian caused by security or the like but also the other way around ;) I think I remember a few quite messed up rooms a few years ago at least.

Vegas is no different from any other union town where trade shows are concerned, so those problems would be present no matter where you go in town.

Unions are a pain in the ass whether it be Vegas, NYC or wherever. In my previous mainstream life, I had to deal with them regularly. They insist upon you using overpriced union labor to help setup your booth. If you dont, the union brothers will be looking for the first opportunity to get some payback.

Best plan is play their game, hire at least one of them, tip him well, and hire your own security if you have to leave expensive stuff at the booth overnight.

Just one of the many things that makes a booth a pain in the ass and expensive and the reason you're seeing them get smaller at trade shows of all types.
