How can member sites differentiate themselves ?

How can member sites differentiate themselves from freesites? I remember about a year ago John IP saying paysites will need to differentiate themselves more and more from freesites. I don't think it's actually happened though I agree it needs to.

TGPs offer 1000s of free galleries updated daily.

Membersites can offer high quality video and video chat products that freesites can't as easily do.

What else can they do?

The way I look at it is running a pay site you have to give the surfer a reason to buy. Its no difference than how TGP/Free sites upsell...the difference is how you do it.

Is more less or does less make more?

The biggest problem I see with most members sites is they are exactly the same on the inside and indestinguishable. The same sponsors who spend thousands and thousands on parties, women and debauchery won't sepnd a few hundred extra dollars to revamp their member's areas.

There are actually a new breed of sites that are distinguishable and those sites are the reality sites, especially those from "new blood" like oxcash and triplexcash. The big boys have been following the reality trend, some for better, some for worse, but that's a big difference. The biggest factor in those sites as well is they constantly update with fresh content. The fact that bangbus, cumfiesta, mike's apartment, etc. are all over TGP's and still coverting like mad is that even though the TGP surfer may have seen a couple of the video on TGP's, they want more and know they'll get more (with those fresh updates).

So, while the old school players are dealing with thinning margins, guys like Paolo and Kevin at triplexcash are making the most money they've ever made.

Fresh, Custom, High Quality Content....

We have been doing it since day one with out Amateur sites.

We have now gotten into video production, so we are doing much more the stills.... It has been a huge investment, but we are starting to see the payoffs!!

By end of the year, I hope to have more custom content sites then anyone else!!

Reality type sites (basically video sites, I dunno where this reality tagging came from) may SEEM better but they don't retain any better than 'regular' sites whether it be TripleX, Nasty, Ox or video sites in the big programs. The problem you are dealing with is an educated consumer base who knows they can use the trial loophole in the current model to buy access to sites for nearly nothing, get what they want, and cancel without producing any REAL revenue to the paysite owners.

Members Area's do need to get better but anybody who can prove more than $55 gross member values CURRENTLY on at least 500 sign up / day volume should hit me up on ICQ right now cuz I've got a shitload of traffic you might be interested in ;) 46972932 I have a feeling I won't see any activity on this.

What has yet to be done (hopefully this mold is broken VERY soon) is find a BETTER mousetrap to produce the same or better constumer conversion and producing a higher overall customer value. This is the next big innovation in this biz!

I personally think that members areas are going to get more "intelligent" and tied to billing rather than a "you joined, now it's all yours" model.

I dont mean a "you're only a trial member still, become a full member to watch all our shitty plugins" kind of deal, but rather, more focused quality driven upsales.

IMHO the 3 above only make marginal differences to retentions, lower single digit percentiles. Not many people of sane mind will pay $50 per month for a porn site membership. It is an overpriced poor value deal. Profits come from people who either forget or are too slack to cancel their membership.

I have never owned a reality site so I may be dead wrong but (assuming content has anything to do with retention) I suspect a general hardcore mega site would retain better than a reality site because it offers better value. Once the novelty of the reality site's theme wears off you're left with about 20 crappy videos, I'm sure someone could jerk off to your videos a lot quicker than you can shoot them.

In my experience the source of your traffic has the biggest impact on retentions.

Compare the retention of domain type ins, search engine and blind spam sign-ups to TGP, CJO and opt-in sign-ups.... a difference of day and night.
