View Full Version : The Good Show Thread

Okay Mike's got the bad show thread displaying all the ridiculous and unprofessional behavior that goes on at these shows so here's the good one. To me this was one of the best shows I've attended both biz wise and personal fun factor.

Excellent ARS Loung Lizard Party followed by a very great idea, the Poker Party, which looks like it will be expanded in Vegas, this was a great networking opportunity for all involved and lots of fun too.

Couple great private dinners with friends, lunch with a whole bunch of us, Ulfie, Drav, Elecktra, Peaches, Ken and RRed, which I thought was one of the more relaxing highlights of the show.

Guess I'm getting older, turning 26 this year and been in this biz for 7 years now but I'm not interested in seeing people drink urine. Give me the kinds of parties that I would throw at my house, poker parties, golf outings, dinner parties, etc. and I'm happy. By the sounds of it there's enough of us that like to fish and hunt that there should be an outing in the works for that too. If the continued lines of mixing biz and pleasure go on well I'm sure lots of us have different ideas of pleasure than seeing live sex shows.

Vooman and I have become bad influences on you folks! We're bringing you over to the darkside of just hanging out at shows instead of seeing how wild and wooly you can get. :awinky:

If I remember correctly and I wasn't exactly sober myself, Peaches you were the one swigging out of the 2 bottles of wine at 4 am and I had stopped drinking long before that :)

It was peer pressure from Ulfie and Charles - they're VERY bad influences! :zoinks:

I still remember Amber asking: "What are YOU doing up this late??!!" :P

I had a good show. Plenty of time for relaxation and seeing the people I wanted to see. Since i am probably older than about anyone else that goes to these shows, I don't stay out late, and pick and choose my parties. ARS did a great job (it had to cost righteous bucks) and they deserve all the pats on the back that anyone can give them. The poker party was also a great idea.

I AM seeing some maturity in many of the Industry players. It is not hard to mix business with pleasure - it just needs some good common sense, and a little discipline. This is a business with serious problems in the past, present and future. Conventions CAN be a way 'of coming together and accomplishing something IF you use your time wisely.

Toolz, always good seeing you as well. Looking forward to working with you in the future. The ARS party was first class all the way. The food was great and the company at dinner was even better. And yes I was a very bad influence on Peaches at this show.

We need to organize a Marlin tourney down in Cabo. Cabo had great laid back night life.

None of that 4am to 10pm fishing, but something a bit more reasonable!

Toolz, too bad you can not make it to bachelor party, you will be missed in VIP!

Brad,

I can hear the girls screaming already, where's Toolz for the VIP treatment.

Buff,

John's an expensive date you'll need at least $1500 for him ;)

Those were both great!

I also had a good time on the gigamix cruise, and hanging out by the pool during the Silvercash happy hour.

I had a fun time at the show, and missed some of the more unfortunate minutes :agrin:

All in all it WAS a good show.... considering...

*** life is what you make of it ***

We were saying YEARS ago that the high points of most industry gatherings weren't in the organized events but in the chance opportunities you find meeting folks in elevators, quiet person-to-person meetings over dinner and maybe even just sitting down to gamble a little in Vegas, looking over and seeing someone you've wanted to talk to face-to-face but had always missed before. THOSE are the choice moments - the reasons why we continue to go.

Sure the show floor is smaller than I've seen it in years... sure a lot of the "names" that I wanted to meet/see/talk with weren't in attendance... sure Florida in the August heat/humidity is INSANE... but those "moments" between scheduled events and time on the show floor are what make these shows WORTH going.

Besides... I finally got to meet Peaches, Danny C - and got to see 12Clicks, Mojo and a few other folks that I've missed over the years... that in itself makes the whole week GOLDEN.

Nope - thats all yours sweetie. Now you can't say "but I never win anything" ever again. lol

That was too cool - now I get to hear about how my drink was doing tricks for a couple months (Greenie asked - on microphone - where you were, and I said you were in the hall watching my drink - lol), but it was worth it.

VERY cool! And I mean it - it was great to finally meet you and share a Pina Colada! :rokk:

Gonzo -

There were a LOT of people missing from the show this time around. Then again, it was the summer expo... we will see who's around and who's not by January. I think it will be a very interesting show to say the least.

Glad we got a chance to say hello to ya - however brief. :bwave:

Already looking forward to January... it's gonna be something totally NEW from what I'm hearing buzzing around the boards, ICQ and stuff I heard at the show.

Hopefully Dravyk is staying OFFLINE as there's a group of folks enjoying a post-show relaxation-only (NO WORK!!!) couple of days down there. We really wanted to stay and hang out but with the new puppy, kids driving my parents crazy and lots of work to be done before we take off to Tahoe with the kids, I just couldn't do it.

Hope you guys are soaking in the rays, drinking lots of Pina Coladas and are having a GREAT time! :yowsa:

I think the entire industry is ready for something new. And Im sure there are plenty of those that have it cooking.

Who knows...I might have something going as well in the tank.
ONe thing is for sure...you can rock on or go home.

So lets see who bellys up to the bar and innovates and which rograms fade away...

Nice to see a post that accentuates the positive side of the whole affair. While the negative sensationalist posts do get more publicity(bad news sells)It was a very minor part of the entire event. Therefore it should not cast a black shadow over it. Like it or not, there was a lot of business done despite the nay sayers. :rokk:

JFK, I love your photos - but I do not think you can really qualify what real business gets done at the shows. While you are a keen observer, and take lots of photos - I doubt you now what business is really - if any is getting done. No offense....

I think the show was possitive - there are always some ass clowns in every group. I enjoy the show because it allows me to catch up with old friends and see what the state of the industry is.

I have been to every major show since 1997.... I know the difference between good shows and bad.
