View Full Version : Classy or Trashy? Behavior at Internext Convention

It amazes me how much this industry has changed, and how the conventions and parties have changed as well.
I remember the first show I went to in Orlando... it was a pretty low key affair, the only real party I remember being outside the hotel was thrown by Python at a local strip club. This convention is the one where everyone was a newbie, and lots of great friendships and business associates were made.
This last show, I strolled over to the GFY Boat party to say hello to Lensman, and I was pretty distrubed at what I saw....
http://joinrightnow.com/pictures/03-08-04/images/126.jpg
The rest of them are here http://joinrightnow.com/pictures/03-08-04/index_7.html
When I saw this unfold in front of me on the ship, I knew it was time to leave.... the guy also pissed all over the boat as well.
This is the problem with our industry.... there is a lack of professionalism... there is a group of people who are more thrilled to be part of the show, then understand that this is a BUSINESS!!
I am far from a prude, and if people want to urinate on each other, or in cups ands drink it in private... I am all for it.... but to do it at a party, a "business party", that is why this industry continue to head South quickly!
- End of RANT!

It's interesting to watch the change. The way the parties are now is the way I thought they would be back at my first show (Orlando). That was the tamest show ever. It was a big deal that DJ-JD brought 3 strippers with him. No content parties. Very mellow.
I've been surprised at how far the public parties have gone. It was usually only the private, small parties that had the live sex shows. Now it is the big heavily attended ones.
Precedence has been set, I imagine.

Mike, I agree, and have been of that opinion for some years now...
I thought it was just me showing my age, but I never understood how one conducted business in a 'circus' atmosphere where you can not hear yourself talk... lol
Professionalism needs to be shown, now more than ever, especially in the 'public eye' so to speak.... we dont need any more adverse publicity, and situations like this will certainly attracth that....
I know that private parties and smaller gatherings, are all that a number of people will attend anymore.... a number of us just had such a gathering in Vegas last week, it was fruitful, laid back, and LOTS of biz taken care of with like minded folks....
Will the Internext style events go away? I highly doubt it... people want to get crazy, and dont think of the long term consequences...
course.. thats my simple 2 cents... and worth every penny you paid for it!

Colin, I remember those girls....

There was a little nudity and such, but it was very tame. Especially by todays standards.
Thing is, I love naked chicks, and live sex shows and things do not bother me as well. The problem is doing this in front of large groups of drunk webmasters, this causes the problems.... at least part of them.

I was standing there with MikeAI when that happened and I was shocked. After she did that some guy started pissing on the wall. It definately was disturbing and disgusting. Some people treat this as a business, some people don't. That's the problem when you have no barriers to entry into a business, you end up with people that work for beer money and are just there to party at an industry convention.

Things like this are the reason I did not attend Miami and may never attend another show. There is a serious lack of a professional business atmosphere. I think we are seeing more businessmen staying home, or doing private affairs at shows, thus these idiots stick out even more.
I also heard the open use of drugs was rampant. One thing to do drugs on the down low, it is another to do them out in public and gloat about it.
You have that idiots like easton who OD's on coke and was back at the hotel doing more coke the next day, and bragging about it on the chat boards.
One day a drug bust will happen at a show, and some innocent people will be caught in the middle. Limo gets pulled over full of coke, or a small room party where coke is everywhere, cops will arrest everyone. There are some people in this business with serious drug problems.

FYI, people ask me all the time why we no longer sponsor parties. Two reasons.
#1 Better to do small affairs and take people to private dinners. In Miami, we did 3 dinners for 8-10 people. Anymore than that and it can be hard to talk biz.
#2 Liability issues abound.

I personally like the smaller parties. For me these trips are about business and networking. Not to mention if they get to big the hassles that you have to go through doesn't make it worth the time.

Brad,
You've reached a point where not going to a show is seen as a sign of success rather than failure. You've done a good job on the boards of cultivating that point.

I must agree
Hmmm, the only real party I went to was Hoopers (and I didnt make it to the Topbucks side so I dont know what went on there) at this show, stopped by the GFY boat for a few minutes but it was too humid out for me...
However this show reminded me of another Internext in alot of ways -- the New Orleans show back in 2000... the frantic atmosphere, with all manner of crazy behaviour going on.
I think its a cyclical thing -- when the industry is scared of whats going to happen in the future it seems that people start to get crazy, partying like rock stars, pushing things way over the edge. When its more secure, things are much less wide open.
I remember thinking back in New Orleans, damn, this can't go on this way... then there were all manner of problems coming -- FTC, cc companies, etc - bearing down on the industry like a train with no brakes -- once the dust settled tho, the next year when we had the summer show in Vegas it was way more calm and people weren't anywhere near as crazy in their behaviour.
Some people are just fools in public no matter what, and they definitely give the rest of the industry a very bad public image.

January's Internext was the first show I had ever been too. The convention floor wasn't bad I met a lot of people, however the parties were just too much. There was a lot of drugs going on all over the place it seemed and me personally don't care for drugs. The following evening I met some people on the show floor and some of us all went out to dinner.
That dinner proved more beneficial for me than anything else I did at that show. I was introduced to about 10 people during dinner that turned out to be great business contacts.
It's a shame some people don't act professional when at an industry / professional function. Some people forget, there is time for business and there is time for pleasure. And to use one more cliche, "Perception is Reality", when people act like that it gives you an impression of their professionalism.
You could be the best business man in the world, but if I saw you drinking urine during a public funtion I would never do business with you.

Drugs have always been a part of this industry and always will be.
It used to be a more hush hush thing though...but I've never been to a show where at least 2-3 peaopl haven't come up to me and said "hey, let's go up to such and such's room and smoke some pot" or "snort a couple lines".
I've been to "real" business conferences that were the same way. The parties were insane, out of hand and filled with drugs, hookers and all vices exploited.
Parties were NEVER where business happened. Why should they be? Go to the convention for the business and the parties to let off some steam.
Fuck, even at some of the big restaurant industry conventions I attended, business was done on the show floor or in private meetings, never at parties.
Everyone thinks these parties are the downfall of this industry? No, the downfall is shady business practices, the VISA monopoly, the bullshit billing tricks, the LARGE amount of free hardcore porn available, overeducated surfers and our whole taboo factor (of course, the taboo factor is what keeps us in business).

It's very easy to go the shows and not attend the wild parties. I was at the GFY thing but only for about an hour (long enough to see the pissing though :barfon: ). I was at the Topbucks party but had no desire to watch what was going on onstage, so I didn't. I stayed on "The other side of the black curtain" most of the time :awinky: That party clearly stated that there would be sex shows. It was the GFY party that ticked me off, I guess, since I THOUGHT it was a semi-low key affair as a meet and greet warm up. Pissing on floors and walls was NOT what I expected and I daresay Lensman and CE didn't either.
What worries me is that now the wilder parties will have to be topped by some. But again - I just won't attend - no biggie. :)
Another thing is that a lot of these hardcore sex parties are run by those that produce their own content. It can be argued that they ARE doing business by shooting and then selling the pictures/vids on their sites.
I saw little drug use and only pot. There WERE police all around the Westin and also at the Topbucks party. I would GUESS that if hard drugs were being consumed in their site, they'd take care of it on an individual basis, not arrest everyone at the party.
To sum it up, I'm an old lady and I stay on the fringe of these things and do the small dinners/parties. It's worked out well so far for me. :rokk:

Mike,
You have pretty much summed up why I do not attend parties that include strip clubs, photo shoots or the rest.
At the past 4 shows I have attended 4 parties
2 Gameworks parties we were hosting with ARS, and the 2 ARS lounge Lizard parties.
I did not see a single naked person at any of them (I did hear about some guy that was all over Vegas naked showing up at Gameworks)
I could give a shit what people do, but I control what I subject myself to.
FWIW - urinating in public is illegal in all 50 states

drug use does have something to do with business and the way business is conducted. a person being that irresponsible can also ruin the lives of others. so how you can say one cannot or does not affect the other is wrong. whether the end result is now or in the future, the day will come. i have seen it happen many times to those far more successful then me.
regardless, these two in that first photo are suppose to be adults. as it is now seen, the title adult does not necessarily apply.
shooting photos like that for content to resell is one thing. doing it because a person is high is a bullshit excuse that went out once we all graduated hs (or at least it should have).
if a person has an addiction that could be harmful to innocent people, keep it behind closed doors.
those excuses of i did it because i was drunk or high doesn't hold water cause if you cant handle either, you shouldn't be doing it in the first place. no one put a gun to the people in first pic's heads and ordered them to make such a spectical of themselves. they made that decision and imo it was the wrong decision.
content-one thing; money is made from it
public attention-another thing that could lead to sever reprecussions.

hehehe i made a funny and didnt even know it. hehehehe (ok laughing at my own, unknown jokes means i have spent way too many years on this computer) :biglaugh:
KK - I think you have an excellent point... the "craziness" does come and go in waves and if we look back, we can see the pattern you are pointing out quite clearly.
I made it to the a few small board gatherings, had a few planned dinners/hangouts with specific companies/webmasters, made it to the ARS Lounge Lizard Party ( excellent gathering - great drinks, food, a little entertainment for those who wanted it & great prizes! ), got to the Freekfest ( I enjoyed the Voodoo Lounge venue over the Solid Gold, but liked that the two were separated as a 2-part party so folks could choose party vs. strip club or both ) and pretty much just hung out in the lounge area between Satine/pool the last evening meeting up with folks I'd missed, saying good-bye to friends.
I have to agree with Peaches - if you want to see it, it's easy to do and most folks know where to go for the crazy, wild, over-the-top parties. If you want to skip the craziness, it's easy to find places that suit those tastes as well.
I've always preferred the Vegas venues over the Florida ones for their diversity, but have to say that if nothing else - this particular show provided lots of options party-wise for attendees.
:awinky:
About Easton
I saw him, his voice was gone
he thought about going to the hospital
how he was going to pay was talked about
he was gone a while
I saw him next day
Voice still gone
I saw his prescribed meds in my buddy's room
Maybe he did coke, but saying he OD's on coke is bull shit
And if the parties are wild, don't go
as Sykk said, the downfall for this industry isn't 7 days of parties a year
As for doing biz, sure dinner is at 8
parties at 10

This has been an interesting read..
KK I remember the 2000 party in New Orleans that was a wild place to be. I sat the Miami show out since I haven't been around for awhile. I just wasn't interested in going and dealing with a show that size after being away for awhile. From the sounds of it that was the correct choice.
The big to-do's at the shows are amusing but everyone knows serious business doesn't take place at those things. Hell many people in attendance at those parties will be doing good to remember bits and pieces of the night.. they are not going to remember that they had struck some deal or another.
I have never had a problem with living a wild lifestyle but I don't understand how or why anyone would want to do it in public at a show and risk making themselves look like asses to their peers. Not that I haven't been stupid at a show.. just never that freaking stupid. If you want to have a wild night do it at home with friends. Don't go get well lit with business associates.
Easton out of control at a party?

These comments DO interest me greatly!!!!!!!!
When this sort of conduct goes on - it is damn hard to find a hotel that you feel safe in booking. I am sure that we have had these things go on at Cybernets - but they are kept very low key and more private.
Just today, in discussing some things about a possible 2004 future Cybernet, I looked at a location on the website, with a wide spread beach. My first thoughts were..."how do you control what goes on there when the photographers arrive, without going nuts?" We could have to non- consider a great location, just because the attendees don't know how to conduct themselves in public.
I am glad to see this discussion and hear that not everyone thinks you need to hype up or advertise live sex shows or extreme fetish demonstrations at conventions. My opinion is that I want them so private that I don't even hear about them!

Meni - partying, drugs, getting naked are all fine... they do not bother me. It is destroying other peoples property that bothers me. Pissing on a boat ( inside on carpet) you do not own on purpose is just destructive. I doubt Easton would like it if we went to his house and peed on his sofa!

in addition to my distance and financial restraintsm part of the reason I have never made a huge effort to go to a convention is all the wild parties I hear about. I've never been much of a wild party type. Love a good time but not getting off my head ..especially with people I am suppose to be dealing with on a professional level.
It is good to hear that pleanty of networking can be done away from the wild parties. Makes me feel a bit more comfortable, should I see myself at one anytime in the near future.

I would be the first to admit that I drink a lot of beer at these shows. I also get things done though while I'm there. I met a lot of new people again at this show so it was worthwhile going to it. Some of the things that happen are just over the line for my tastes. Damaging property is not cool. If you can't handle your drugs or alcohol get into a program. I thought I was the only one who wasn't a wild partier. haha
Unfortunately I spent most of this trip working in my hotel room (thank God for the high speed internet access), and I missed a few very nice dinner invitations with people I really wanted to spend time with. I did manage to get to the ARS party, and I always like that (along with Gameworks) because it is low key and a guaranteed nice time. It was funny, I remember going up to Marc the day after and thanking him for a great party. I felt like such a dork, but that is truly how I felt... Good conversation with good people is what I enjoy. :okthumb:

Colin, thanks! But I get jealous when I hear that Mike, Billy, KC, Chris, and Toolz were all hanging out without me! Thats alot of man loving without me!

Webmaster cruise long ago was very nice. Maybe an invitation only affair.
Curaco is nice and very well put on, but too many people go there for the drugs and brothels. I recall they had buses to get around on last year, and people were smoking weed on them openly.

The past 2 shows that I've attended I went to one 'sponsored' party, usually on the first day. After that, I just met with clients, friends and associates, had small dinners and then went out later to private clubs, etc. I hate being stuck in a crowd full of people that I don't know and or can't stand to begin with .... especially when the guy/girl ratio is about 1000:1

The wild party atmosphere will not go away... there is a lot of the younger crowd in this business, and there concept of a convention is 'wild and crazy'.. so be it... I was young once.. I think....
I have no problem with what people choose to do on their own, god knows I've done enough abusive things to my mind and body over the year, and would by hypocricial of me to condem others for doing the same...
The thing is.. A LOT of people want and atmosphere thats quieter, and more condusive with catching up with friends, exchanging ideas, and cutting deals... frankly, there are a lot of the 'older crowd' that just flat out will not deal with people indulging in the craziness.... maybe to the detrement of both groups, but its a simple fact.
Peaches.. can I hang out with you too... ;-) We gotta do dinner in Jan..

So I should probably drop the blood drinking/ritual sacrifice party I was planning at Webmaster Summit? I wouldn't want to appear trashy or classless :(

I also attended this exact party and was front row for that piss drinking display, that was just trashy and nasty, but some of these girls were actualy really classy, and were there just to represent there companies in a tasteful manner, but the piss drinker, that would make me label for the most part the trip as trashy, but to each there own.
Anyone get any pics of my inflatable penises, those things got some major mileage there. was just wondering if they made it to any websites.

That's got to be the biggest penis I've ever seen.
No wonder it's flaming.
I'm with you guys - I like it quieter and if there's partying going on, a small group is way better than a hundred people (most of whom you don't know). Like 8-10 folks get together and party, do the club rounds, whatever. It still lets you have fun but you're also in a more 'protected' atomosphere where if you're female you'll know someone's got your back, but also if you make an ass of yourself it's less likely to be plastered all over the biz boards.
The only time I like to be with a hundred folks I don't know is when we're all out on a dance floor and the lights are going crazy, the bass is pounding in your chest, and the only thing you can think about is the music :awinky:

With me, it varies, I'm just as comfortable in a noisy, loud music, whole bunch of hellraising going on type party as I am a nice, quiet dinner party with formal wear.
I don't expect to get "business" done at a loud party anymore than I expect to get drunk, fuck the waitress and spill my drinks all over at a nice dinner or formal party........

A convention hotel is used to throwing people out during shows/expos, so one or two such situations in the course of a show will only be a big deal if they are looking for a reason to avoid rescheduling a group.
They same cannot be said for the kind of moronic behavior like dropping shit onto a skylight.
I am looking forward to finding the old foggies group in January - my drinking/drugging days are behind me, but I can get pretty wild long about the 2nd double espresso ... :D

very tame show, i don't remember attending any 'parties', but we had lots of nice 'dinner parties' at serge's - that's my ideal show - good food, good wine (or soda water) and family for good company.

There was a little nudity and such, but it was very tame. Especially by todays standards.
Thing is, I love naked chicks, and live sex shows and things do not bother me as well. The problem is doing this in front of large groups of drunk webmasters, this causes the problems.... at least part of them.

Seems we're getting more people who wanna go to the conventions to get high on their own supply. They aren't there for business, they're there to party and for the occasional cheap thrill. I chuckle everytime I see pics from convention sex shows or photoshoots and you see guys stacked 4 deep holding their cameras over each other trying to get that shot of the action.
It's kinda sad that they're in this industry and are that desperate to get a pic of some nekkid ass....

I think everyone needs to learn to be a bit more conscious of where they are. And that goes both ways.
Based on the ads for the parties, I think it should be no surprise to find nudity and even sex in some of them. Now pissing is a new one, not my scene I woulda been out there. But that's really what everyone should do, exercise the same freedoms we hope users do, if you dont like it, dont look at it or leave.
But again, discretion, know where you are. If you're in rented space with controlled access, you can get wild. If in a more public location, like the beach, use your head. Now drugs are another story, do what you want in your room, but keep it off the premises at the parties, especially anything stronger than weed.
And one of my alltime pet peeves is people who wear their "industry" clothes outside with the normals, to the mall or dinner or whatever. We may perceive ourselves as business people who just happened to have sexy products. Make no mistake about the rest of the world though, they view us as nasty pornographers who they think might chases their children down the streets with a dildo in one hand and an industrial sized bottle of wet lube in the other.

Claudia, I thought you were going to be there! I wanted to FINALLY meet you. :(
Peeing content has been phased out by most of the larger paysites. ARS got rid of their pee site over a year ago and I honestly can't think of another "big" affiliate program that offers it.
That said, I made the remark several times that I have ZERO problem with it. But the fact is that I watched someone pee on the carpet of a boat that was leased by their host for the party. In looking at the pictures, it seems she WAS aiming for the cup, but as Serge pointed out, we women ain't so great at aiming. B) When "visiting' someone (which is how I look at it when you're at a party given by someone else), I try to adhere to what they consider good taste. My brother and SIL don't drink. Therefore I would NEVER drink at one of their parties. I daresay Lensman and CE wouldn't want you to come to their homes and pee on their carpet - or even in a cup or beer bottle - so IMHO, it shouldn't be done when they host a party either. I never saw that party advertised as a "content grabbing" party, which it seems it was treated as by some.
It's all about respect.

Did anyone else but me miss the fact that there was NO hospitality room this time? This type of incident is why. The attendees seem to have little respect for the obligations and liability of the sponsors. Many check their brains at the door or ' just don't give a damn.
I hope hospitality rooms are not a total thing of the past, because that is many times where some real business is done - but, I can't fault sponsors for not wanting to do it anymore.

hehe...ok...colin, I could see that comment from me was waiting for a reaction...
typicall american I mean with this :
Like the law in USA.
over 65% of our traffic is comming from USA, most porn companies are from people from USA...and still the government wants to exclude porn from the country......???
and as far as our business:
It's ok to sell it but not ok to do it ???
thats all......nothing too nasty towards USA Colin, but I must say my experience with the mentality has not always been a good one. I believe that European people value long term relationships and handshakes more the American people do.
But I might be wrong....I sometimes have a bad feeling with who to trust..so, I just take my loss and move on..I call it business risks now days...hehe....
But my bank account can handle a little more than a few years ago..so, the mistakes I feel less than a couple of years back..if you understand what I mean.
Peaches,
I would love to meet you too !
I am against any kind of content which is degrading woman, vomit, abusing animals, girls, and pregnant woman...
I believe that porn should be happy content, between adults and that should be the border.
I have been saying this for a few years already. I just have the feeling now business is getting more difficult that suddenly people realise that it might can be too late & changing their thoughts and opinion on things.
But - I don't want to bitch all the time ....I don't have the wisdom either...I hope performers will be treated nicely because they are the reason We all make money !!!
whenever you in europe please come visit me !
Love Claudia

Little C, its not the problem of peeing per say. Its peeing on someone else private property - in essence destroying it. IF you are fine with peeing, would it be ok if I come to your house and pee on your bed? Or pee on your new rugs?
There is a time and place from everything.....

Oeps, I forgot something..
The reasons why I am not attending shows is because of a few reasons:
1. I think the shows are too expensive.
No, I am not bankrupt, Interclimax is doing very well and I am trying to keep it that way !
As you can see on our websites : http://www.camsathome.com we give each Month a 1st price to the best webcam girl worth of $ 5.000 US a vacation for 2 persons, and a 2nd price for around 2.000 US and a 3th price around 500.
These tickets are booked by us andthe models will bring pics back so, we can show that to the members who voted for them.
2. I do hava business to run & I want to run our business as best as I can, this means I can not travel all the time.
3. I don't like to get on a plane at the moment. You never know what can happen. Plus the shows in USA can get out of hand.....
That is one thing Bradshaw can be right about.

Actually C.... they both work for Lens.
I know Kayla personally and she told me that Lens dared her to do it so she went for it.
Personally I would have made like Peaches and stayed clear of the waterworks.
However...it doesnt surprise me or shock me at all. Thats why I chose to go to Forest's as opposed to GFY.
Different strokes for different folks.
I expect to see most anything at these shows. After all we do work in the PORN industry. However I am like HP & Mike AI in the respect that there is a time and place for everything.
And as most of you know Ive made my own public shows of "awe and shock" to stir the buzz. I guess I shoulda stood at the keg at Forests house and drank while taking a piss at the same time.
it would have been more entertaining than hearing that shimpy dude yell at all the models.

Yeah, you have to be careful. There are definitely a few Americans I wouldn't shake hands with. Email me at colin @ pleasurelabs.com and I'll send you a list. Hope I can be of help.

But, I guess that goes both ways right ?

About the memo. I might have been reading the wrong memo. But isn't PayPal for example entitled to exclude porn / adult companies ?
If I use a bank here in holland and the bank says sorry you are selling porn we dont want you - they can not do that here.
That's what I ment. Sorry sometimes my English fucks me up.
How was the show for you btw Colin ?

That is correct.
I think the differences are overly magnified by many though. Europe and US culture are remarkably more similar than say Japan and the US or China and Europe.
Are you sure you are used to it? ;-) ;-)

I had an excellent show. We already have some new business because of it which is a rarity on less than a week's turnaround in my experience.
I only went to one party - and only for a few minutes. Spent a lot of time on the convention floor, lunches, dinners, and so on.
My take is that either there is business there you don't have and it's time to get to work or you are doing business with everyone in which case it is good to manage existing relationships. I spent about 80% of my time with people I already do business with and 20% with potential new partners.
I'm big on shows and boards. I believe the value is always there.

That is quite interesting.
Should a society limit the freedom of businesses or people? Seems like a toss-up. Telling a business it can't exclude porn is also a limitation of freedom - of a different sort.
There are no right answers.

That is tru colin, and it is always nice to see the faces you do bizz with.
you have the luxury of being in a country where you can fly within a few hours to be at any show.
I made the decision to keep on building and expanding. Hiring more people, take a look in other business fields like tv, etc.
that is costing money and a lot of time.
I am hoping that people will take our products because they are good and making money. If my business does not survive because I do not visit shows I think it is time to do something else. (this again I do not mean negative)
I have a lot of nice memories of the shows I went too & I met a lot of nice people and got lots of business from the shows.
But Iif I would make it to Vegas next year I would love to invite you for a dinner ! I would love to discuss wit you the future of our business !!!

Oh, I didn't mean to that extreme. Your business is fine I am sure. You have a great reputation. I only hear good things about you and your company. You've been working hard at it for many years.
I am fortunate to have great partners that work really hard on stuff while I am in Vegas, Miami and other places.
Love to meet for dinner. Hope you are there next year. :-)

It just works different here. As long I don't do illegal activities a bank is considered to be for everybody.
PayPal has accepted money from adult business owners and than suddenly they can say: we dont want you anymore thank you for your business, thank you for your money but you can GFY now...
what do you think about that ? I think that is wrong !

I have this dichotomous nature.
Of course I would like everything in the world to work to my benefit so I'd prefer PayPal to accept adult transactions. I think it should be their right though - even though that is to my detriment.

Why did Pay Pal stop accepting adult transactions? Ethics or because of chargeback difficulties? It wouldn't benefit anyone to force Pay Pal into an unprofitable business. If it's a good one, the possibilities are now open for a competitor.
Paypal got out because their idea of fraud control doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of a fraudulent webmaster or affiliates abilities.

I am new to this board, but been in the industry for a while. I just have one question ragarding parties of this nature (with the live sex amnd shit)....
Why is it a group of people that see porn all the time for a living, work around porn all the time and are at a porn industry convention, want to climb the walls and crawl over people to take all the pics they can of people having sex? Seems a little funny to me....the funnier thing is, when I see it right in front of me at a porn convention, or anywhere for that matter outside of my bedroom, I find the bar more interesting...

There was a little nudity and such, but it was very tame. Especially by todays standards.
Hey all!
Carol doesn't even remember that picture! Anyone know who any of the other girls are? The only person we recognize is dear old "Joe Liberty" (Lovey - only the old-timers will remember that one!)
The shows have changed quite a bit, and not to my liking. That's one of the main reasons I send people down and only attend occasionally. You can see it in the various message boards, with 90% of the "webmasters" talking about parties, and not the show or business. Yes, we'll like to party, and we have had some great ones (Carol & Serge naked in the pool at MikeAI's party in Florida in 1998) :awinky:
The first party I can remember was the one JoeE held at the Clarion, when he had the strippers dancing on the tables. That's when his credit card wouldn't cover the cost (it was a lot higher than expected), and the hotel wouldn't take his check and anted to throw him out. Too funny! (for us at least).
I've always preferred the smaller, more intimate suite parties and receptions. You can have fun, hang with the people you like, and get some real business done. Ah, the good old days (Christ, I sound like my father!)

Wow Bradshaw you sounded like you should organize a union... those were bold yet Intelligent statements! bravo to you sir! :)

I've been to "real" business conferences that were the same way. The parties were insane, out of hand and filled with drugs, hookers and all vices exploited.

I hope hospitality rooms are not a total thing of the past, because that is many times where some real business is done - but, I can't fault sponsors for not wanting to do it anymore.
Sharpie, I think most of the hospitality suites are usually in Vegas. Even there some of the larger companies discontinued them, because there did not seem to be a return on their investment. :stout:

I agree with almost all the old crowd has said here...and have had the same policy Danny has had...went to this last show however and understand now why I had that policy;) Although it was GREAT to see old Friends!
One thing to remember the third and fourth generation folks are very different then those that came before, nature of mentality between originators and followers, and as I told Brad in ICQ the other day, he's wastin his breath on the bulk of the Get Your Fries here Generation(GFY)...most are pimp wanna be's(and I mean that in every sense of the Godfather definition;)....JoeE wanna be's(with 90% less brains)...No sense of respect for accomplishment...heaven forbid they would be caught "Judging" anyone..there small timers who are probably at the pinnacle of there careers touting 100 posts on GFY and peein in cups.

Gonzo - I hope PureCash gets its full launch before then - but rounding up some roudy webmasters to drink with and have some fun... sounds like a good plan to me!!
yeah I do know, last time I talked to tony, he said I could use it anytime EXCEPT for the falcons saints game this fall. :) I think I'll be able to find a suitable bridge to crash under
I DO think we should put something together, it would be a blast :rokk:

I'm glad she's married to both of us. Now I only have to buy 500 acres in Montana instead of 1000. We need to find about 10 more husbands for Peaches. :D

Thanks, One day I bent over and I had a hard time tying my shoes. That's the day I said it's time to do something about this. I've dropped about 45 pounds and still have another 20 to go but at least I can walk 9 holes of golf now and not feel like I'm going to have a heart attack. :D
Peaches, powerball jackpot is going back up again so when I win maybe we can afford one of those states. I'll take one side and you can have the other and we'll get together twice a year at shows. It will be the perfect marraige. ;)

I think I've come to realize that the fact I was a concert promoter for a couple years and had to babysit musicians that I'm a bit more hardened to bizarre antics ;-)
I remember a group, who'll remain nameless, who had a groupie take a shit in a jar....then they sealed the jar and played catch with it, the point being to not drop the jar. The jar tossing was done in the hallway of the hotel by the way...and ended up in the lobby when the guitarist (who I really want to name, but can't ;-)) dropped the jar...
In my own band days we'd tell groupies to make out with their female friends before being invited backstage and some times, we still didn't let them back stage...and we weren't even that good of a band......
I'm so glad I escaped that world and fell into the cleancut world of internet pornography ;-)

I guess no one here was around for the party in Hollywood 1999 the Joe E and the gang had on the cruise ship. Huh?
I seem to remember a lot of girls pissing directly into mouths in the halls of that ship. (Bypassing the cup part >;_0 )
The Fetish Factory provided the talent for a fetsih party and the show was talked about for years afterwards.
My wife Shannon Rush got the spanking of her life on that boat. :wnw:
As far as the bitch pissing in the cup goes, what the fuck do you expect?
80% of the people at the show were newbies who have never made dime 1 from this business and are in it for the fun.
As far as the guy drinking the pee goes, in all fairness they did run out of seltzer!!! :nyanya:

That's just trashy and disturbing.
I agree!!! Thats nasty!
Last year I spoke with one of the main coordinators @ the Venetian about our group. She said that believe-it-or-not the shoe salesmen and ladies' Tupperware groups were rowdier than we were over the years.
I wonder if she was privy to such goings on as the topic of discussion here, but all-in-all it seems we do NOT have the worst reputation.
True, it's like my 14 year old saying "yeah but so-and-so did (something worse)" and expecting me not to punish him because somebody else's kid behaves worse than he did, but perhaps the hotels do not see us as badly as we are seeing ourselves. True, it's distasteful, shocking & an image we don't want the world to have of our industry (like they don't already have a pre-set notion about us), but we can't control everyone.
Good point about a lot of it being newbies & folks just there for the "fun" and "party." I think that's a LOT of our problems at public events like this one. :headwall:

You make a good point there. I got to the show early on Thursday and had a couple hours to kill before Dantheman got there so I went and sat at the bar. I was talking to the bartender about working at the show and she said she requested to work it again because last year she made more money on the weekend of the show than any other. She also said the hotel agreed to hold the show because AVN gaurenteed they would sell out the hotel every year for 5 years. So I'm sure you can look forward to at least 3 more shows at the Westin.
Another interesting thing from that bar encounter was the guy sitting next to me was there for the show also. I asked him what he did and he said he was a carpenter but he had heard about the show and came down to see it. He had absolutely no business being at that show. He registered for 1 reason, to go to the parties. There's really no way to stop that but I'm sure some of the people that get out of hand fall into that category.
