Ok, so after 9/11 we beef up the air marshall program. Just advertising it more helped, knowing that there might be someone on the plane with a gun in his pocket who is authorized to use it has possibly helped spurn planned hijacking incidents....

Now they are gonna advertise the fact that they are cutting back on it ??? No No No.... idiots, if you have to cut back, then cut back (I dont like that solution, but government folks arent exactly known for thinking outside of the old baox too often) but DON'T (repeat for dramatic effect) DON'T advertise the fact that you are cutting it back.

How much we are paying for "terrorist" related defense, air marshalls, where they are, how many there are, what flights they are on, who they are.. is exactly the kind of info that should be highly classified... This information is necessary to hold close to the chest in order to provide national security....

Nothing like letting our enemies know exactly what we are doing every fucking step of the way......

U.S. Aims to Reduce Number of Air Marhsalls Even Among Warnings That al-Qaida May Plan to Hijack More Planes

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON July 30 —
The Transportation Security Administration wants to reduce the number of air marshals to save money, even as the government is warning about the possibility al-Qaida may try more suicide hijackings.

The TSA is seeking approval from Congress to cut $104 million from the air marshal program to help offset a $900 million budget shortfall. It's unclear how many of the estimated several thousand air marshal jobs would be affected.

Memo Warns Of New Plots To Hijack Jets

By Sara Kehaulani Goo and Susan Schmidt

Terrorists operating in teams of five may be plotting suicide missions to hijack commercial airliners on the East Coast, Europe or Australia this summer, possibly using "common items carried by travelers, such as cameras, modified as weapons," according to an urgent memo sent last weekend to all U.S. airlines and airport security managers.

The "information circular" issued July 26 was drawn from recent intelligence reports that detail the most specific terrorist plots involving passenger aircraft in the United States since four hijacked jetliners were used in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, crashing into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in western Pennsylvania.

"The plan may involve the use of five-man teams, each of which would attempt to seize control of a commercial aircraft either shortly after takeoff or shortly before landing at a chosen airport," the Transportation Security Administration memo said. "This type of operation would preclude the need for flight-trained hijackers."

The threat comes just as the federal government has started to trim the nation's new airport security agency, by cutting the number of security screeners and other resources. Just one day before the memo was distributed, an official with the undercover Federal Air Marshal Service canceled what are considered some of the most vulnerable flight missions because they required marshals to spend nights in hotels, as well as cut training for Washington-area agents next month. The official cited "monetary considerations," according to an e-mail obtained by The Washington Post.

And yet more information being passed:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...atoday/11451620 (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=679&ncid=742&e=1&u=/usatoday/20030730/cm_usatoday/11451620)

In spite of intelligence reports this week warning of possible suicide airline hijackings this summer, the TSA remains far from meeting a congressional order to scan 100% of checked bags with high-tech systems.

When lawmakers originally set a deadline of Dec. 31, 2002, for bag screening, they envisioned using explosive-detection scanning machines that function throughout Europe. The devices, similar to medical CAT-scanners, take three-dimensional pictures of bags to spot explosives.

But even after receiving one deadline extension, the TSA has failed to install enough scanners in every major U.S. airport. Instead, it is relying heavily on less-dependable equipment and hand searches. And in spite of the problems that cumbersome system causes, the agency now appears unlikely to meet its new deadline at the end of 2003

Hmmm, could it be possible that the Gov. is actually NOT telling their 'true' plan and leaking certain info so terrorists might get more confident.....
