Just got my pimpin sony hs10 projector, stewart firehawk 100inch, niles speakers, cool sony amp and receiver, big fat red couches are in place...
it's getting dark.
What would you christen a great (first) home theater with?
I'm thinking the matrix. My wife is voting for star wars attack of the clones.

Saving Private Ryan is also a good "home theater" flick. :)

All good choices...
I'd also include Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition on the list.
Really good reference quality DVD in every respect.

Hooper, you should have just bought my house. I spent $100k+ on a home theatre, but I am too lazy to walk upstairs much!

Hiya Hooper, congrats on the home theater... :)
You know, as much as I am not a Tom Cruise fan, Top Gun would be a great movie for a nice home theater... Surround sound would rock during the flight scenes, and hell, Kelly McGillis would look pretty good on a 100" screen as well. heh
Good luck with it! :okthumb:

I don't even have a wall a 100in TV would fit on! :o And we'd have to sit outside in the yard to watch it to be far enough away to get the "full effect, lol! B)

Yeah, but you can get it as loud as you want without disturbing the neighbors.

Sony Receiver???
Their projectors and ES DVD players are good but as far as sound goes, do your HT justice and try Meridian, Lexicon or Audionet :-)

I have SONY ES in my house, can not complain. Keeps things simple, to have everything Sony. Mistake I made was trying to take an odd shape room, with high ceiling, and bad acoustics, and turn it into a theatre. My next house will have a room built from scratch for a theatre, also more centrally located.
Hooper, make sure you get a nice color touch screen remote with macros. That will really impress the chicks!

How do you spend $100k on a home theater with such cheap equipment and no accoustical room correction treatment?

I havent bought an hdtv tuner yet. We only have the normal channels in hdtv and our cable's version of hdtv tuner sucks ass... either gonna get satellite or a good antenna.

Independance Day is an absolute blast in good surround - evn if it offends everyone outside the US
T2, 5th Element, and the Matrix are also good.
I would not survive without the home theater

3 very good scenes to demo a home theater sound system are:
Heat - the bank robbery scene
Desperados - barfight massacre
Pearl Harbor - you know what scene :)
Toolz
07-29-2003, 09:20 AM
Gladiator opening battle scene is also nice :)
Hooper
07-29-2003, 10:50 AM
Gladiator & Pearl Harbor.. definitely on the list.
I must confess though.. matrix was a bit of a disappointment, not as much of a visual delight as I remembered it from the theater days.. great story, good action though.
I did watch a fantastic movie this morning though... Monsters Inc... and Toy Story & Toy Story 2 are gonna run this eve. There is something to be said for film that is 100% digital to start with :)

The room has that 3m crap in the walls, velvet curtains, etc. That cost a good bit. Not to mention the $25k chairs.

Another good movie for the home theater is Black Hawk Down.
Mike AI

Yeah Black Hawk Down!! A classic!!
I have sat in those $25k chairs, and I have to say.... I love them!!
One day I will be rich like those guys in Texas and get me a home theatre... until then I will keep watching my 12 inch B&W with rabbit ear attena!!

In my world, chairs aren't for sleeping in. I'm quite happy sitting in my $1000 chairs and sleeping on my $1000 mattress. B) For $25K, I could buy a few acres of property up here that would double in value within 24 months. I like appreciation, not depreciation. :awinky:

For $6K+ per unit, they better blow me in the morning when I wake up too....
And here I thought the $2500-3000 a unit stuff I've been looking at and drooling over were over priced. For the units I've seen, it's not just comfort but construction. You can have two full grown Georgia white boys in side by side units connected by wedge and one can recline back and forth like a spastic 4 year old without spilling the drink that is sitting on the wedge on top of the arm rest instead of in the drink holder. It's THAT stable.
My lazy ass side also likes the wedges that open up to built in refrigeration units so you dont have to get up to go get another tasty adult beverage.

Do not have any recent pics of my theatre, these are from when it was still being finished out. Will try to snap some new ones.
You can see 3 of the chairs, now there are 4. They are fully motorized and imported from Italy. Very oversized, a 400lb man could get comfy in one. I have a photo somewhere of KC sleeping in one.
Also, built in a kitchenette in the closet up there. But that was before I had ShawCutie to fetch me drinks while watching football.

Speaking of couches, this is the most comfy sleeper couch you can find. No metal in it at all, folds into a king size bed. Grimm said it was best night sleep he ever had!
