both of us can't be right...
I made the poll more beneficial to Colin than the original discussion

ok,
I'll make it less obvious...
it's MORE than $100,000 a year to COMPENSATE for value of money,
thus making both numbers ABSOLUTELLY equal

I voted Serge because even with a 0% return, you break even. If you can even put it in a 1% MM, you've made more money getting the $1mil than getting $100k for 10 years.
Now...if you wanted to make it interesting, you'd ask if it was better to make $1mil in a year or $120K or so every year for 10 years. B)
LOL Serge you may be putting a bit of a stretch into what Colin said...
This was a funny little thread along similar lines --

Peaches,
that would REALLY scew the numbers and odds but would also bring the interesting question:
what if "cockholsters" who don't give a flying fuck about tomorrow would make it impossible to make $120k or even $100k?
I don't like implied uncertainty the 10 years carry

As much as I dislike doing so publicly, I have to agree with Serge on this one. A bird in the hand is worth more than two sitting on a tree limb above you, because they can shit on your head.

I think the million is better because you'll collect more interest :-)
But for people who lack discipline $100k a year is much better...

Certainly take the 1 mil now. I'd even take half a mil now versus 1 mil over ten years.

I chose "I'd rather make $1,000,000 in one year - Serge"
For anyone that doesn't click the link though:
My exact quote was :"I'd say its that he prefers making $x/year for 10 years than $2x/year for two years."
Using real numbers it's "I'd say its that he prefers making $1 million/year for 10 years than $2 million/year for two years"
I know which one I'd chose.
The crux of the point is that one must make an evaluation of what those differences would be for you. Most people in the business don't have any idea how to make 20,000x what they are right now under any circumstances. I don't. If I did, I would.

I am assuming that the $100,000 for 10 years is GUARANTEED......
There are taxes to consider..... and
You can blow through a mil pretty quick, because you have it. If you know you only have that $100,000 a year - you would probably spend it/invest it more wisely.
There was a show once on the people who had won a million dollars in the lottery - 1/2 of them were broke 5 years later......
I would say that it is up to the temperment of the individual and the time in their life.

I'd rather make a mill in one year, who you kidding?
Firstly. you are obviously doing something right, and would be able to continue it.
Yeah, taxes may be a bitch, but with the proper investment, making 1 mill is better.
You can throw 150k or 200k into a nice commercial real estate project, for 5 years get nothing, then 20% returns every year, for doing nothing but investing :)

Always take money up front if you can.
But Serge, you and Colin do business in different ways. You always worked and did things ( some of which I did not agree with) because you always expected tommorow the business would not be there. By doing so it was almost a self-fufiling profecy that you are now out of business ( with a ton of $$$ in your pockets)
Where as Colin works hard, plans for long term future in business.... and does not do things that will tanrish his reputation or put him out of business.... This is how I have operated as well.
Of course in hindsight, it might not have been the smartest thing to do with this industry. Because it is very shaky, and the people who are ROBBING and STEALING and being cockholsters are going to end up killing the golden goose for ALL OF US ( the people who cross bounds to make money, and those who are conservative in the business).
It has only taken a few dozen companies to put us in the situation we find ourselves - on the brink of destruction... I wonder if any other industy has any parallels?

*************************************
...and I found ONE way to deal with this danger-
Fuck 'em all before all fuck you
;-))
THIS you CAN control,
more often than not one CAN NOT control being fucked by cockholsters.
therefore-
I said it before and I'll say it again,
'til proven wrong,
be the master of your destiny,
GRAB what you can TODAY and think not of tomorrow,
this is "Individual driven semi-legal buisness with NO assurances whatsoever where COCKHOLSTERS prevail,
you either can beat them in their game or just become their prey"
i prefer making 10 million in 10 years :D

Yes... this is the heart of the discussion. I guess I would like to have the "glass is half full" approach and hope for the best of our future... but seeing "all those in power" and control of that future doesn't always leave me with much optomistic hope.
Hope to still see everyone here making $$$$ in 10 years... would like to see the hard-working, honest-working people dance on the graves of those who took the money and ran! :nyanya:

in most cases i prefer to think long term and work off that model.
but in this case the way the poll is worded it makes no sense to take 10 years over 1
its much easier to make 2-3 million after 10 years from 1 million
